There are a few places to set which is the primary display, but they are
useseless.
I have the option in nVidia Settings and Display in Settings. None help.
It's very anoyting, since my big monitor is on the right, and as I open
new things, or even Save
I just calibrated my display with an X-Rite in 16.04 LTS and it loaded
the resulting profile automatically.

The livecd boots fine on another machine of mine with a nvidia GT 640
(so, an older generation), fromt eh same daily and same image burn.
I am out of extra hardware to try this on.

Damn! My only excuse is that it has been a very long time since I had to
setup a new machine with new blank profiles (usually I copy my stuff)
... and totally missed the plugin manager... option in the tools menu.
Why the heck is this not integrated in the main settings dialogue, or
may be even
Ever since this fix was released my laptop now goes into standby mode
anytime I close the lid on gnome-flashback. The only workaround was to
use the gnome-tweak-tool like mentioned in comment 1.

Yes, I similarly can't upgrade language-pack-en (1:17.10+20171002) to
language-pack-en (1:17.10+20171012) because
language-pack-en-base (>= 1:17.10+20171012) doesn't exist (yet). (latest is
1:17.10+20170703)
Hold tight, dino99, this will be resolved when the next package update
goes through.
