[Bug 1724450] [NEW] apparmor is broken for kernel 4.14
Public bug reported: Several critical systems are broken with the default Ubuntu 17.10 apparmor profile when booting in kernel 4.14, eg DHCP/networking and mysql-server. I got it working by applying the attached patch from the /etc directory. The patch is mostly based on the patch provided in comment #34 in the upstream bug at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=877581. I had to remove the sections for the files that Ubuntu doesn't have (such as tor, tor.browser, haveged and libvirt) and to get DHCP to work, I also had to add 'w' permission to /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-helper to avoid this syslog message: apparmor="DENIED" operation="create" profile="/usr/lib/NetworkManager /nm-dhcp-helper" pid=3876 comm="nm-dhcp-helper" family="unix" sock_type="stream" protocol=0 requested_mask="create" denied_mask="create" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: apparmor 2.11.0-2ubuntu17 ProcVersionSignature: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/proc/version_signature' Uname: Linux 4.14.0-rc5-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed Oct 18 12:59:38 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-08-16 (62 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) JournalErrors: Error: command ['journalctl', '-b', '--priority=warning', '--lines=1000'] failed with exit code 1: Hint: You are currently not seeing messages from other users and the system. [Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane
** Description changed: Impact == The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1 "to match with the soname" apparently to fix a Lintian warning. libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25 libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27 This appears to be no bigger change than any ordinary new version of the library. The library rename makes it impossible to install any scanner drivers for libsane that are distributed as a .deb unless the driver distributors recompiles against Ubuntu 17.10+. Therefore, adding Provides: libsane seems reasonable here. Test Case = Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz Unzip it. Install the iscan .deb from the core folder. It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane Regression Potential - The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been virtually zero response on it. + The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes the system basically useless. Original Bug Report === I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. [Bug 1724441] [NEW] No external network access for VMs
Public bug reported: VMs under Boxes no longer have external network access - there seems to be a private internal network that is functioning fine, but when the host is connected to a network it is not possible to access this external network from VMs. Eg. It is possible to resolve DNS names, but it is not possible to ping external hosts from a VM when the host connected to the Internet. This is a regression from zesty. Looking at virt-manager, qemu:///system has a NAT network defined using virbr0, but qemu:///session (which Boxes uses) has no network, and it is not possible to create one - attempting to do so results in a "Operation not permitted" error: > Error creating virtual network: error creating bridge interface virbr1: > Operation not permitted > > Traceback (most recent call last): > File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/asyncjob.py", line 88, in > cb_wrapper > callback(asyncjob, *args, **kwargs) > File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/createnet.py", line 746, in > _async_net_create > net.install() > File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtinst/network.py", line 262, in install > net.create() > File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/libvirt.py", line 2892, in create > if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virNetworkCreate() failed', net=self) > libvirtError: error creating bridge interface virbr1: Operation not permitted ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: gnome-boxes 3.26.1-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Wed Oct 18 15:01:42 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-07-22 (819 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64 (20150422) SourcePackage: gnome-boxes UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-boxes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1724441 Title: No external network access for VMs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-boxes/+bug/1724441/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1724265] Re: Unexpected memory allocation failure in hibernation snapshot (swsusp)
Testing with 4.14-rc5 I can enter hybrid-sleep with low memory usage but the system hangs after blanking the screen and displaying "Snapshotting system". In this case there are no log entries for the failure, ie the journal is truncated after initiating hybrid-sleep and then disconnecting the wifi (on NetworkManager receiving a suspend signal). It seems plausible that this is the same failure mode but with different log entries because of timing/memory differences, so I am marking the issue kernel-bug-exists-upstream. At any rate *some* kernel-bug-exists- upstream. Not relevant to this issue, I think: - the default 16.04.3 apparmor settings disabled /sbin/dhclient and /usr/sbin/cups-browsed with kernel 4.14rc5 - I renamed /etc/apparmor.* and rebooted - the system log showed repeated timeout crashes in inteldrm like that attached below. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1724265 Title: Unexpected memory allocation failure in hibernation snapshot (swsusp) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1724265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1710993] Re: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update
I have personally done a dependency review and it looks fine to me... Also, this exact thing was already done with 16.10 and on... Lastly, indicator-sound-gtk2 was never accepted into xenial-proposed, which has been sitting in there *for over a month*. That fixes the problems Tiago described with the volume applet not opening pavucontrol, and *is not a regression in lubuntu-default-settings*. To be honest, I'm a bit frustrated... I do not want to drag this on longer than it already has been. This is a high priority regression that needs to get an update promptly... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1710993 Title: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound-gtk2/+bug/1710993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1722394] Re: Ubiquity crashs during grub-install on btrfs
Beats me, but the bug isn't actually new. After talking to some folks at the local LUG and perusing the forums I've seen numerous cases of this issue occurring. There are other bug reports as well, and I believe most of them have been closed as unresolved. The gist of Canonical's stance is this: Using btrfs to make a whole-disk volume (so that one mounts /dev/nvme0n1 instead of /dev/nvme0n1p1 or /dev/sda instead of /dev/sda1) is unsupported so this isn't a bug but could maybe be resolved with a feature request. This particular behavior has been around since btrfs was first included as an option on Ubuntu...circa 10.10 if memory serves me right. What makes this bug different is that it's the first time I've seen the bug cause the installer to crash. Normally it complains about not being able to install grub, I switch over to a terminal and do it manually and everything is swimmingly after that. Just to clarify, grub-install will install grub on a btrfs volume without errors and it works splendidly but the installer doesn't handle whatever exception occurs as a result of this apparently unorthodox request. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722394 Title: Ubiquity crashs during grub-install on btrfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1722394/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1724424] [NEW] Problem with video after suspending the machine and wake it up
Public bug reported: The bug I found is this, I suspend the machine, and when I wake it up, the display doesn't work correctly or doesn't display the video or things correctly. It looks like if I hadn't the display driver in that moment. It looks like with a wrong resolution, a lower resolution, things looks bigger... It happens all the times when I wake it up with the mouse. I've just wake it up with the keyboard and didn't happen, but it happens almost all the times... All the times when I did wake it up with the mouse. The display gets fixed after entering to the Display configurations or Appearance, by right-clicking on the desktop and entering to Change Wallpaper and it looks good after that, but displays some things wrong sometimes. But when entering to Appearance, the displays goes black and then it looks good. I don't know if the problem is with xorg, or with the display driver or related to another package. My OS is Ubuntu 16.04.03, my graphics card is a NVIDIA GT610 and I am using the proprietary driver of NVIDIA. Maybe in the picture attached you cannot see well the problem. I wanted to attached two images, but I can't. Let me know, if you need more information or if I can help with something. Thanks. [Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with external monitor and lid closed after login
Tessa, I know it's confusing but the way LaunchPad works is that you may still be suffering from a bug even after it shows as "Fix Released". This is because the fix has been released in the latest Ubuntu 17.10 (only). As you are using Ubuntu 17.04 you don't yet have the fix, we know. I have nominated 17.04 to receive the fix for you, but it is not always guaranteed that a fix will get backported to previous releases. Still, the right place to discuss the problem is here. Only if someone still experiences the problem in 17.10 should a new separate bug be opened. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716160 Title: System goes to sleep with external monitor and lid closed after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1716160/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1597961] Re: [Acer Aspire E5-573] Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth 4.0 not working on [Ubuntu 16.04
Just to give you feedback on this bug, I'm now using Linux Mint 18.2 (which is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). I followed André von Kugland's directions at Ask Ubuntu (https://askubuntu.com/a/964350/560233) and made my Bluetooth adapter work. His laptop has the same Bluetooth adapter (ID 04ca:3014) as mine, so he helped me. Here is what I did. I installed the HWE (Hardware Enablement) kernel using $ sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack) Kugland noticed that the Bluetooth adapter was being disconnected after loading the acer_wmi kernel module. So he said to blacklist it: $ sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/btconfig.conf blacklist acer_wmi Also, he suggested adding to that same file the following line, which, according to the documentation of the ath9k kernel module (https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k), reduces interference between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters: options ath9k btcoex_enable=1 bt_ant_diversity=1 So that: $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/btconfig.conf blacklist acer_wmi options ath9k btcoex_enable=1 bt_ant_diversity=1 Finally, I updated the initramfs: $ sudo update-initramfs -c -k all And rebooted the system. When it came back, the built-in Bluetooth adapter was working. Now, I can use my laptop's built-in Bluetooth and my USB dongle (0a12:0001) is free to be used on another computer. I'm not sure that contributed to the final result, but before I have installed the linux-firmware package: $ sudo apt-get install linux-firmware Also, not sure this is a part of the solution, I installed all the updates available using apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. I believe this is a good habit. I'm going to add as much diagnostic information as I can about my setup, just in case anyone else in the future needs to make that Bluetooth adapter work. [Other Info] - + No more info here - - Steps: 1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected 2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack 3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings Expected results: Line-out port can work Actual results: Line-out port not work -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718824 Title: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1718824/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
