[Bug 1700022] Re: Emscripten does not support WebAssembly

2017-10-18 Thread C.W.Holeman II
Why would emcc from the current version of emscripten, 1.22.1-1build1,
installed from the ubuntu synaptic package manager expect LLVM to be at
3.4 when the LLVM versions listed in synaptic are 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 & 4.0? I
would presume that emcc would not give an error if I did things
correctly. What is not right?

2017-10-18 Thread Bernard Catalan
Public bug reported:

1.) I created a USB Live Installer for Ubuntu LTS 16.04.3 from within Ubuntu
16.04.2 LTS (updated reg.), using ubuntu live USB creator.
2.) I disconnected all other 2 HD's on my computer then installed the newly
created Live USB Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on the remaining HD with existing Linux
Mint (latest stable).
I used the 2nd option of reusing the existing partitions used by Linux
Mint. (can't recall if I reformatted, but I recall selecting the "mount partion
as root" anew (ext4).
3.) Sometime later during the installation, system says cannot write boot
loader on HD and system will no be able to boot.

[Bug 1724316] Re: "Sorry, something went wrong cannot authenticate to snap store ..." without any way to fix

2017-10-18 Thread James Henstridge
So further investigation, the "cannot authenticate to snap store: " part
of the error is only added by snapd for an unexpected error:

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/master/store/auth.go#L190-L204

I believe this is being called via the refreshDischarges() method,
intended to keep the store macaroon up to date. This is called by any
snapd API that talks to the store, so it isn't surprising we'd hit it
during gnome-software start up.

I wonder if changing your Ubuntu One password would be enough for the
store to refuse to refresh the macaroon?

So it looks like the fix probably requires the following:

 1. snapd to handle the INVALID_CREDENTIALS response from the store and
produce an error response that snapd-glib can distinguish.

 2. snapd-glib to handle this error case and map it to one of its error
codes (either a new one, or fold it into invalid-auth-data?)

 3. if snapd-glib produces a new error code, for gnome-software's snap
plugin to map this to an appropriate error code.

The end result should be for gnome-software to call the /v2/login end
point again, probably passing its existing macaroon so it updates the
existing snapd user rather than creating another (i.e. what would happen
to paid snaps for a discarded snapd user ID when it comes time to
refresh?). I'll follow up with the snappy team to verify that this is
the way forward.

[Bug 1724730] [NEW] Will not finish the reboot after install

2017-10-18 Thread Valorie Zimmerman
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu RC install tonight, version 20171017.1. The install was mostly
flawless until reboot. The step where the user is asked to remove the
install media and hit return froze most everything.

I was able to get to a console eventually and saw only [numbers which
changed with each report] systemd-journald[998]: Failed to send
WATCHDOG=1 notification message: Transport endpoint is not connected.

Was unable to get my gui to start again so I power-button restarted.

At that point, the install seems successful. I'm reporting from that new
system.

[Bug 1724583] Re: gdm3 doesn't list wayland-based sessions

2017-10-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed. For me this bug happens with Radeon cards (using the 'radeon'
kernel module).

And also confirmed this is not a duplicate of bug 1723577. I was trying
to reproduce bug 1723577 when I encountered this one instead.

Can you please provide output from this command?;

  lspci -k

If you happen to have an nvidia card instead then this bug would become
invalid. Because the nvidia driver is known to only support Xorg
sessions by default. If you have a radeon card though, then this is a
new issue which I can confirm.

[Bug 1724354] Re: WARNING in logs due to missing python-jsonschema

2017-10-18 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

  === Begin SRU Template ===
  [Impact]
  If python3-jsonschema is not installed, then WARNING will be written
  to console log and to /var/log/cloud-init.log with certain cloud-config
  data is provided.

  python3-jsonschema is a soft dependency of cloud-init and specically
  not listed in 16.04 and 17.04 packaging as it was not a dependency in
  the versions of cloud-init originally released then.

  The WARNING is only "scary", and has no negative affect on runtime.

  [Test Case]
  The change for this bug modified the integration test suite so
  that WARN in /var/log/cloud-init would trigger a test failure.
  Running the integration testsuite would show this failure with
  that test now in place.

  A manual test can be done though as follows.

  $ cat > my.cfg < /run/bootcmd-works"
  runcmd:
    - "cat /proc/uptime > /run/runcmd-works"
  EOF

  $ for r in zesty xenial; do
     lxc init $r-proposed $r-info &&
     lxc-pstart $r-info \
   sh -c 'dpkg-query --show cloud-init; cat /etc/cloud/build.info' &&
   lxc delete --force $r-info; done

  # show container info just to show versions.
  $ for r in zesty xenial; do
     lxc init $r-proposed $r-info >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo == $r-info == &&
     lxc-pstart $r-info -- \
    sh -xc 'dpkg-query --show cloud-init; cat /etc/cloud/build.info' &&
     lxc delete --force $r-info; done

  ## launch an instance of each release and grab logs.
  $ for rel in xenial zesty; do
     n=$rel-1724354
     lxc launch $rel-proposed $n "--config=user.user-data=$(cat my.cfg)"
     lxc exec $n -- sh -c \
    'while ! [ -e /run/cloud-init/result.json ]; do echo -n .; sleep 1;
done; echo'
     lxc file pull $n/var/log/cloud-init.log $n-cloud-init.log
  done

  # check that 1724354 is installed.
  $ grep "WARN" *-1724354-cloud-init.log

  [Regression Potential]
  Highest chance for regression would be in the integration test
  suite. The only change in code path is in cloudinit/config/schema.py:
   - logging.warning(
   + logging.debug(

    https://git.launchpad.net/cloud-init/commit/?id=41152f10ddb

+ Note, this is not specifically in artful at this point, but also
+ note that this bug does not affect artful. Artful's package
+ has a depends on python3-jsonschema, so it will not demonstrate
+ the issue.

[Bug 1724489] Re: Searching for "oh my" returns zero results but "oh" does

2017-10-18 Thread Robert Ancell
The command line finds using these terms:
$ snap find 'oh my'
Name Version  Developer  Notes  Summary
ohmygiraffe 1.1.0a popey - oh my giraffe

The weird thing is gnome-software should be sending the same thing...

Note that searching for "oh" doesn't work in GNOME Software - it doesn't
search until you type three characters.

[Bug 1724489] Re: Searching for "oh my" returns zero results but "oh" does

2017-10-18 Thread Robert Ancell
Ah, seems to be a bug(?) in GNOME Software - it's only actually throwing
away any search word less that 3 characters. So the search "oh my" is
rejected because none of the words are long enough. "oh my gir" would
just search with "gir".

I would have thought having a total number of characters more than three
should be sufficient.

Note the reason for the limitation is for the appstream search
functionality (too many matches with a small number of characters).

[Bug 1724711] Re: rsyslog fails to start (Lubuntu 17.10)

2017-10-18 Thread Dima
Since rsyslog does not work, I replace it to inetutils-syslogd, but it
seems like inetutils-syslogd has some problems with apparmor, but aa-
logprof gives me nothing and says all is ok.

[Bug 1724709] [NEW] Indentation is broken

2017-10-18 Thread Simon Quigley
Public bug reported:

For 17.10, please treat this as a 0-day SRU bug report.

[Impact]

Without this fix, in any text editor that uses this framework (Kate and
KDevelop are two of them), the text editor unexpectedly and
automatically indents when the user types any of the following
characters directly after a function (which is indented): u, n, d, e, f,
i and n

[Test Case]

1. Open Kate.
2. On the lower right corner, set the syntax highlighting to Python (default
for .py files).
3. Type the following code, go to a new line, and backspace so your cursor is
not indented like the print function:
def func():
print("foo")
4. Type "abcd"

The cursor should stay where it is, but instead after pressing "d" it
autoindents.

[Regression Potential]

There is little to no regression potential, unless somehow the trigger
character is undefined but needs to automatically indent for some reason
(which, it should be defined in the template anyways, it shouldn't need
hardcoding in this spot).

[Bug 1724610] Re: Logitech G15 keyboard non-responsive in GUI

2017-10-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1724610/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1706033] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2017-10-18 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From cha...@us.ibm.com 2017-10-18 20:11 EDT---
Hi Kleber,

Is the verification for Zesty (17.04) a requirement for a 16.04 SRU?
This is the first time Zesty has been mentioned in this bug. Thanks.

Hi Shriya,

If Kleber states we do need a verification on 17.04 as well, would you
be able to do it? Thanks.

Christian,

The customer that I was working with has changed their environment, so I
cannot go back to them. I will have to deploy openstack in our test lab
to verify the default settings. It will take some time for me to get
this checked out. I will reply back when I get it running. Thanks.

[Bug 1700657] Re: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB

2017-10-18 Thread Aswin Gigi
Sorry for the late reply but @io-mattia98, even hitting escape doesn't
do anything for me when the system freezes.

@kleber-souza the patch does work as expected but just that the system
hangs while restarting, but if you power if off and restart it works
again, which I assume is an issue with GRUB.

[Bug 1721719] Re: gvfs-info bashism

2017-10-18 Thread Marcello Nuccio
You are right, the bug is fixed upstream. I have manually downloaded
gvfs-bin_1.34.1-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb and checked the file: it includes the
fix.

However it is not fixed on my computer. And I do not know why.

Unfortunately I have not found the package in /var/cache/apt/archives,
then I am not sure if the .deb installed on my computer is the same.

I have never tampered with my installation. This is a fresh install of
Artful Beta1 updated once a day with "apt dist-upgrade". I dont know
what has happened.

Regarding the use of "$@:2", there is no error displayed because:

1. "$@:2" is valid syntax in both shells, but it is clearly a bug
because it is expanded to "$1" "$2" ... ":2", which does not make sense.
I think that in bash it should have been "${@:2}" (2 is an offset),
while in dash the syntax is not supported and you should use "shift"
instead. You can check it by running:

$ echo 'echo "$@:2"; echo "${@:2}"' | bash -s foo bar
foo bar:2
bar

$ echo 'echo "$@:2"; echo "${@:2}"' | dash -s foo bar
foo bar:2
dash: 1: Bad substitution

2. "gio help info" discards all parameters after "info", then for
example "gio help info :2" is equivalent to "gio help info".

In short: I think you can safely remove "$@:2".

Sorry pushed enter too soon. I can make the problem go away by changing
the line in mate-panel.rc from

to

class "GtkScrollbar"  style "scrollbar"

which is what is shown e.g. here

[Bug 1722570] Re: Numbers of sidebar icons only show after Super + Number key had been pressed

2017-10-18 Thread Anders L.
I'm fairly certain that this behavior did change at some point in the
17.10 process -- I believe that I used to be able to long-press the
Super key and have the numbers show up.

That being said, it should also be noted that after selecting an app,
the numbers don't go away again until you press Super once more and exit
from the resulting screen or press Escape.

[Bug 1723874] Re: First installation of a snap reports an error "Connection reset by peer"

2017-10-18 Thread Robert Ancell
The fix for this will be in snapd-glib, it was never built with the
assumption that snapd would restart in the middle of a transaction...
This is somewhat tricky to add because we have to be careful for things
to fail fast if snapd is not installed, but handle a restart during a
transaction (which may never come back).

@jibel - can you check if this also occurs on older releases? The
restarting code seems to have been there for a while, any idea if this
is a new issue or has always been there?

[Bug 1635438] Re: menu-cached process is using 100% CPU

2017-10-18 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Without this bugfix, users who resume from suspend will be greeted with
+ a heavy CPU load when they resume. This is especially bad for older
+ computers who may not be able to hand a large CPU load, and menu-cache
+ is included by default in Lubuntu, where this is especially important.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Suspend your computer with the menu-cache process running.
+ 2. Resume from suspend.
+ 3. Try to press Alt + F2 or use any other program which calls menu-cached.
+
+ It should work as normal, but it uses up a lot of CPU power.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ This bugfix cherry picks an upstream commit that hasn't been tagged yet.
+ As such, there might be additional improvements before it is released.
+
+ Also, this modifies how processes are handled; specifically, it
+ terminates any processes which return a socket error. This could
+ eventually bitrot and result in processes returning valid values but it
+ really shows as an error.
+
+ While all of those are theoretical, it is definitely a possibility.
+ Other than those two considerations, the regression risk is low.
+

  Hey all,

  I don't know you guys are looking for the issues opened on Github
  (https://github.com/lxde/menu-cache/issues/) - currently there are 5
  reported there, but I'd like to report specifically for the menu-cached
  process using 100% of CPU (we also have an issue opened on Github for
  this with lots of comments: https://github.com/lxde/menu-
  cache/issues/7).

  I'm using a brand new installation of Lubuntu 16.10 in my laptop.

  I noticed the machine temperature was too hot (96 degrees!!!) so I took
  a look on top and the menu-cached was the guilty. I killed it and
  everything was as usual again.

  I just don't know if it was because I returned from the suspended mode
  or if it's because I tried to run a custom command with "Open With". I
  did both in sequence/same session.

  $ dpkg -l |grep -iP "menu.*?cache"

[Bug 1724175] Re: dynamic RMC package missing from Ubuntu 17.10 Beta

2017-10-18 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Canonical does not provide support for that PPA. If that PPA is broken
or missing any dependencies not available in Ubuntu anymore, the
owners/uploads of that PPA need to either fix those packages in said PPA
or provide the necessary dependencies. There are no actions Ubuntu
engineers can do to fix said PPA.
