[Bug 1720126] Re: [ip link] Message truncated error for large number of passthrough VFs
I concur with option 2), unnecessary deviation will just cause confusion. Regarding the other buffer sizes, the last time I looked they were mostly OK. The issue reared its head in this particular case because the netlink message that previously had a pretty constant per-netdev response size suddenly had the ability to balloon with "no warning". A number of workarounds exist (i.e. you have to explicitly ask for the VF info), but, in this case we actually want the VF info and iproute2 was just unprepared for the size of it. I guess the core issue is that it's entirely possible for the kernel to add extra netlink attributes to any query response, iproute2 makes the assumption that the queries it's making is not necessarily going to explode with gigabytes of new annotations and 16k will easily fit any current real-world system. A pragmatic approach would probably be to handle the "Message Truncated" path with a dynamically sized buffer as an exceptional case. Any fix in iproute2 that "properly" addresses this issue has to be carefully vetted. Who knows how many inherent races will get exposed if the ip command doubles in execution time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720126 Title: [ip link] Message truncated error for large number of passthrough VFs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iproute2/+bug/1720126/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725153] [NEW] Reintroduce headless mode in GNOME Shell
Public bug reported: [Impact] * I day before the 17.10 release, we had to revert some commits in GNOME Shell due to https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1723577 which was a release blocker (GNOME Shell not displaying anything on multiple config). * Pinging upstream, they debugged it and found the real issue in mutter, and so fixed it, which will enable us to align again with upstream's repo. * This should mostly be a no visible-effect for previously impacted users, but GNOME Shell shouldn't crash anymore in GDM (reverting then to Xorg), triggering apport on logging, and the users can then use Wayland instead of Xorg. [Test Case] * Install both mutter and gnome-shell to their latest version in -proposed * Reboot * Ensure you have an UI in GDM * Log in into your session, check that you have an UI and everything is showing up as expected [Regression Potential] * Impact is a regression in GNOME Shell (showing up your entire UI) and not being able to log in. However, some of us (not impated by the bug) are already running latest version and don't see any issue. I have also asked 3 people being impacted by the bug and fixed by the revert to test upstream commits (prepared a package for them in a PPA), and they are running on it since yesterday, confirming Wayland is available. * The regressions are quite straightfoward to see: either you have an UI in GDM or none. ** Affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725153 Title: Reintroduce headless mode in GNOME Shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1725153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For me it's very annoying. I migrated from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 several days before, and just cant use nautilus. I'm using this type-ahead feature for navigate. At the beginning i tried to switch off recursive search in nautilus to speedup it. But when i want to use recursive search i should go to the setting and switching it on again. I even tried to replace nautilus with another file manager, but gnome can't showing desktop items without nautilus. Why type-ahead can't exists as optional setting? [Bug 1725160] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_monitor_manager_kms_apply_crtc_mode()
Many/most laptops with hybrid graphics don't have the discrete GPU wired to the internal screen. If that includes you then discrete-only mode might only work with an external monitor attached. Because typically the Nvidia GPU is wired to at least one HDMI/DisplayPort, but not usually the laptop panel. [Bug 1657256] Re: Percona crashes when doing a a 'larger' update
Hi, I reviewed the MP and it LGTM. Also I'm ok with the debdiff for trusty given that it was already reviewed before. The one thing missing is to also fix it in zesty. Just as much as in Artful the point is to avoid users regressing when upgrading. So the usual rule of thumb is: 1. current Development release 2. all affected supported releases Without zesty one could have it working through T->X, but -> Z he would fail. Also I have some comments on the MP that need fixing, but it LGTM so we will get that done soon. [Bug 263637] Re: Gnome-terminal follows symbolic links instead of staying in the current directory when opening a new tab
This is still a problem in Ubuntu 17.10, if your shell doesn't use OSC 7 to inform gnome-terminal about the current working directory. In theory /etc/profile.d/vte-2.91.sh should set it up automatically, but for some reason that doesn't happen for me. I think that reason is because in Ubuntu gnome-terminal doesn't launch login shells by default, and thus /etc/profile is ignored. I don't know why the commits from 2012 that are supposed to check $PWD do not work any more. Perhaps a newer version removed them, when the OSC 7 was deemed to be the correct solution? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263637 Title: Gnome-terminal follows symbolic links instead of staying in the current directory when opening a new tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-terminal/+bug/263637/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1693756] Re: [Xenial][ DW5816e] to support qmi over mbim which needed for FCC authentication.
After chatting with sil2100, he said that potentially we could backport artful 1.6.8 modemmanager to xenial, which would be great. I have created bug #1725190 to track that and start in a clean state from there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1693756 Title: [Xenial][ DW5816e] to support qmi over mbim which needed for FCC authentication. [Bug 1725198] [NEW] snap's naming scheme for executables breaks functionality and state of aliases is unclear
Public bug reported: Hi, the snap naming scheme to rename executables to snapname.appname can severely break functionality. I just had the problem that ubuntu's packages for the rust language compiler are outdated and don't compile recent code, and therefore created my first snap to pack the distributed compiler and tools suite into a snap (see https://github.com/hadmut/snap-rustc ). The rust compiler+tools and snap would perfectly match each other, since rust is rather system independent, and it would work just perfectly as a snap, but the renaming scheme causes trouble since tools don't find each other. I then found several discussions about the aliasing of apps, snap aliases and the aliases: clause in snapcraft.yaml, but found the automatic way in snapcraft.yaml to be not working. It is included in meta/snap.yaml, but ignored and still requires a manual alias command. This is currently somewhat annoying since it is currently unclear and not documented about how to get around that naming scheme in a clean and user-comprehensible way. It currently looks as if aliases need to be set manually, but I don't see how to tell users that they have to do it and how after installing the snap. regards Hadmut ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 Package: snapd 2.27.5+17.04 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-37.41-generic 4.10.17 Uname: Linux 4.10.0-37-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu4.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Fri Oct 20 10:08:17 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-04-22 (545 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160420) SourcePackage: snapd UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to zesty on 2017-04-18 (184 days ago) ** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug zesty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725198 Title: snap's naming scheme for executables breaks functionality and state of aliases is unclear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1725198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282688] Re: patch adds ubuntu specific pref in global namespace
2017 update: - there's no gconf - there's no alternate_screel_scroll preference added by ubuntu patches - but there are some new transparency-related preferences added to the gsettings schema The current patch at https://patches.ubuntu.com/g/gnome-terminal/gnome- terminal_3.24.2-0ubuntu4.patch adds these preferences - use-transparent-background - use-theme-transparency - background-transparency-percent However I believe the same transparency patch is also shipped by Debian and Fedora, so an ubuntu prefix would not be appropriate.
