Seems to work for me: Alt+Shift+Tab to switch to the previous app. Alt+Shift+` to switch to the previous window. Gnome Shell is different to Unity in that you need to use ` instead of Tab to switch windows of an app. But in both cases using Shift to switch to the previous one seems to work
