umask is set in my system set to 022. This is also what umask on the
bash spits out. However, new files are always created with permission
666 and new directories with 777, thus world writeable, as is the posix
default. When I explicitely set umask in my .bashrc, for example to 002,
then the values reported by umask change accordingly, but new files are
still created with mask 666. It is not particular to the gnome or X
environment, as it also hasppens on the terminal as well. Strangely,
this does not necessarily happen to files created deep in the directory
structure, but always to files in the home directory.

The same here. Using Kubuntu 17.10 on a VirtualBox Machine. After
install virtualbox-guest-x11 only "black" screen is seen. If I use alt+
f2 I can use Konsole (terminal). If I uninstall virtualbox-guest-x11 the
system loads normally.

Still a problem in Bionic Beaver development. In the past you could work
around it by going into network properties, and manually adding a
network, being careful to uncheck the "make it available for all users"
option.  I couldn't work around it in Bionic.

But the point is that you shouldn't have to "work around" anything. A
normal user should be able to follow the simple process of selecting the
wireless and being prompted to connect and save the password just for
himself.

- restarted the panel
- dragged some text files and folders from Caja file manager to the panel

File and folder launchers work fine.

Testing for possible regressions...

- special launchers (shutdown, logout, connect to server): works
- launcher edit dialog (changing icon, app name, app arguments): works
- desktop actions in launchers (firefox, thunderbird, hexchat): works

All good here.

$ git bisect bad v4.9-rc1
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Then install the newly built kernel.

If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad

Otherwise,
$ git bisect good

Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes
the regression.

I'm the bug reporter, and I have a problem in doing the verification.

a) The initial testcase that I reported happens in both 4.4 unpatched
and 4.10. I.e. the bug that I reported is not yet fixed.

b) Some Ubuntu developer wrote a new testcase as part of doing the SRU.
I cannot reproduce that testcase neither in 4.4 unpatched nor in 4.10,
i.e. `udevadm monitor` does show add/change events for nbd devices for
me in both kernels. I.e. that sounds like a different bug that I never
saw.

So I'm not sure how I can help here...
