The problem message stated that /boot has no enough free space and by
checking the partition with Disk Usage Analyzer it states that free
space is 6.6 MB only.
After using sudo apt-get autoremove --purge as suugested in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels , it becomes 137.9 MB
Still buggin' out. I should add that the screen both flashes and makes
the shutter sound effect, then just doesn't even try to save the file.
If I select capture area, it gives me the chance to drag my rectangle,
flashes, and shutter sound effect, just no file saving. Boo.

times on various drives with the same failure at 39% of the files
copied. In the latest attempt I used the guided installation using the
entire /dev/sda disk, but it failed in the same manner.

Used JTAG to trigger multiple concurrent errors, and observed that all

I'm not using Ubuntu but Arch and I'm affected by the same problem like Simon.
So it seems like to be an upstream bug.
I cannot reproduce the behaviour at all. It just randomly happens when
(quickly?) going through photo collections.

Since reporting this bug, I had been working around the issue by using
Xorg instead of Wayland. However, this is no longer effective; the bug
is present on both.
