[Bug 1295229] Re: With 'hosts: mdns4' in nsswitch.conf, getaddrinfo() returns -5 (EAI_NODATA) when network interface is down
The 17.10 install was default, with: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns The user gave up and re-installed with 16.04 so we don't have access any more to diagnostic output. However, the issue here was that the lookup should have been satisfied by 'files' since the system hostname was in /etc/hosts, both for IPv4 and IPv6. Regardless of that, what nacc and myself found perplexing is the [NOTFOUND=return] - if mdns fails to resolve the name surely NSS should 'continue' and try to resolve using DNS, not return? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295229 Title: With 'hosts: mdns4' in nsswitch.conf, getaddrinfo() returns -5 (EAI_NODATA) when network interface is down To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nss-mdns/+bug/1295229/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 357456]
I've been looking at a proper solution for this. We already have the MSIServer service already implemented—it just doesn't do anything yet. I think the best way to fix this is to register the IWineMsiRemote* classes in the server process with REGCLS_MULTIPLEUSE, so not much change in infrastructure at all. I see two ways of doing this: either move all of the COM objects into msiexec.exe, or add an internal function in msi.dll. I like the first one for the sake of separation, but it does mean we need an internal idl. [Bug 1417470] Re: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing
As the previous fix only worked around the issue by adding blank pages to the output I had another shot at fixing this. I created a merge request with a "proper" fix that actually outputs partial renderings of the final document which can then be stacked in the LaTeX document with the text sandwiched in between, see https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/merge_requests/135 As the renderer (especially the hack we use to make PDF+LaTeX work) is a fragile thing and I'm not too familiar with it yet this requires a lot of testing. I'd appreciate if you could check with your own samples if Inkscape produces proper output. [Bug 1734410] [NEW] systemd: handle undelegated cgroup2 hierarchy
Public bug reported: Hey everyone, Current systemd versions all fail when the unified cgroup hierarchy is not-writable. [Bug 1731796] Re: NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [gdbus:2878]
Happened again. Auto-bug reporting didn't recognize this report as similar, so created bug 1734405 Note - compiz was in Z state (per top), consuming 100% of a cpu (per top) throughout the incident. I was able to login via ssh and look at things. I don't believe that a stuck compiz process could be caused by soft lockups. So the compiz process *may* be closer to the root cause? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731796 Title: NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [Bug 1734405] [NEW] package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.11 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Same scenario as Bug #1731796; probably same root cause. Observed the lockup a bit more closely this time. It began with compiz in Z state (according to top), consuming 100% of a cpu. In this situation, it was possible to ssh to the system. I was running software updater, and could see various activity by aptd, dpkg, and htppd - the latter running as -apt or some similar named system account. Unfortunately, "software updater" is not a parent for this activity, so I couldn't be sure that it had exited (and it might eventually have blocked on compiz), but I waited until the apt/dpkg activity stopped before power cycling. This time the system came back much more sane - no need to run "dpkg --reconfigure -a" from ssh. NOTE - as well as the soft lockups (which I didn't verify this time), we have the zombie process. [Bug 1734392] Re: Password textbox loses focus in prior to textbox in locked profile
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1734392/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1686107] Re: Latest kernel update gets stuck
@ Giorgio Salluzzo Thanks for the workaround. It got me out of a real mess. I am on Ubuntu 17.10 but the same issue happened to me For any one else in a panic, stuck in the same situation, kernel half installed, this is what saved me: * Kill Synaptic with "System Monitor" * A dpkg process was left hung and was blocking further updates - So in "System Monitor" search for and kill the dpkg process that's running and locking things. - Searching the string "/var/lib/dpkg" found it for me. - It had this process "linux-headers-4.3.0-17-generic.postinst" * Here's the trick that made it work (@ Giorgio Salluzzo's workaround) Go to a virtual console CTRL+ALT+F6 Login as your user name and run this command from there $ sudo dpkg --configure -a * That alone is probably the fix but I also ran these from the same virtual terminal $ sudo apt-get install -f $ sudo apt-get clean $ sudo apt-get update * CTRL+ALT+F2 to get back to the desktop. * Then "Software Updater" popped up a message saying run a "Partial Upgrade". Which I did. But it turned out I didn't need that so it stopped itself automatically! * Then I opened Synaptic and checked for updates. None. * Back-up any user data and reboot. For me all went well. The new kernel was installed. NOTES: I tried "sudo dpkg --configure -a" in a normal Terminal but it failed. It just hung again like Synaptic did. Giorgio Salluzzo's virtual console workaround was the trick. But the virtual consoles can be weird. CTRL+ALT+F1 locks my screen (and then the monitor switches off!) When you wake the screen you can't log back in!!! You have to use CTRL+ALT+F2 to get back to the desktop. CTRL+ALT+F6 seemed to work best for me but when I tried it for the first time it was just a black screen with a cursor. When I came back later it had a promt for me to login with. [Bug 1507983] Re: Timeout until screen blanks setting does nothing
@dnord: This has nothing to do with xscreensaver, so not sure in how far that comment is helpful. Regarding the actual bugreport: the screensaver-timeout setting only takes effect when the greeter is used as a lockscreen. So at login the setting is not honoured at all, instead the system default values are taken. This is also why the behaviour of the greeter will differ between logging out and locking your session with respect to the screensaver. So I would not categorize this as a bug, because the code is specifically written to work this way. Instead I would consider this a feature request. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1507983 Title: Timeout until screen blanks setting does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings/+bug/1507983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There was no reference in the documentation for such a serious problem that would alter/corrupt our bios. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - Lenovo Y50-70 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1734147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
