[Bug 1690085] Re: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks
So, to sum up, we have several reports here that Ubuntu's default kernels freeze on low load situations with Ryzen CPUs (or a subset of Ryzen CPUs?) up to and including the latest mainline releases. This bug differs from bugzilla.kernel.org #196481 (user space segfaults only on high CPU load). For low load freezes we have a reliable workaround for Xenial (probably also for newer releases) across different hardware components (differences in exact Ryzen model, mainboards, memory models and configurations) and kernel versions: * Update to latest UEFI * Kernel >= 4.10.0 (4.14.5 mainline tested successfully) built with CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU * The result of `echo rcu_nocbs=0-$(($(nproc)-1))` appended to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX In my experience, with the above changes applied, the following BIOS changes are NOT necessary: * Disabling SMT * Disabling ALSR It is unclear whether it is strictly necessary to disable C6 in BIOS, comments welcome. I would think CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU is an acceptable compromise (for this CPU type) if it provides the stability AMD has, for exactly one year now, been unable to provide to Linux users on their current platform. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1690085/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel
#528 Keep in mind that there are two *separate* issues: 1. Bug off-by-one bug in intel-spi driver that causes CMP bit to accidentally set to 1. This results BIOS being read-only. The bug was fixed by 9d63f17661e2 ("spi-nor: intel-spi: Fix broken software sequencing codes") in september. 2. Some Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga BIOSes reset to default settings if their BCR register is touched. This BCR handling is in a different driver (drivers/mfd/lpc_ich.c). This issue has been fixed by commit d9018976cdb6 ("mfd: lpc_ich: Do not touch SPI-NOR write protection bit on Haswell/Broadwell") in july. So in order to have a kernel that is free from both issues, you need to disable the intel-spi driver (for reasons being that it is not supposed to be enabled for normal users anyway) and then cherry-pick commit d9018976cdb6 to make sure the other issue does not happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1734147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1742862] [NEW] btrfs wedge after 4.13.0-26 hwe kernel update
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I updated the hwe kernel from 4.10.0-42-generic x86_64 to 4.13.0-26 to get the Meltdown patch. On this box, I use systemd-nspawn to run containers using ephemeral mode on a btrfs volume (set up as a loopback device by systemd). After the kernel update, btrfs appears to be getting stuck somewhere with fairly high frequency (so far it's occurred always within an hour or two of use, on two separate machines). Anything that touches the btrfs volume will then freeze, including a btrfs scrub. The machine has to be hard rebooted and will continue to display the problem until the kernel is reverted, at which point btrfs proceeds as normal. Attached are the sysreq 't' trace output and the hung task output from journalctl. ** Affects: btrfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "journalctl output with hung task info" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742862/+attachment/5035582/+files/jounal.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742862 Title: btrfs wedge after 4.13.0-26 hwe kernel update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/btrfs/+bug/1742862/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1742572] Re: System Hangs and General Protection Fault Occurs following NFS Access
Out of curiosity, can you link me to the upstream git repo for http://kernsec.org/pipermail/linux-security-module- archive/2017-December/004638.html? I want to be sure I'm looking at the right place. Interestingly, it looks like someone replied to your patch saying they would incorporate it in early December, so it seems this bug fell through the cracks more than once. Joseph Salisbury is subscribed to this bug and has commented on it above, so hopefully he will update regarding this when he gets a chance. This seems like a really simple fix, so I'm actually going to see if I can recompile 4.13.0-25-generic with this patch added to make it work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742572 Title: System Hangs and General Protection Fault Occurs following NFS Access To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1742572/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1742856] [NEW] Silently stops receiving mail (agent not ready)
Public bug reported: Every couple weeks, some of my accounts silently stop receiving email as though I’m not being sent any. I think this happens with my GMail accounts and not with my own IMAP server, but I’m not sure. When I go to akonadiconsole, the affected agent has nothing where other agents have “Ready”. [Bug 1732629] Re: Selecting USB Amp/Dac audio output in gnome sound does nothing
It has to be fixed in 18.04 first. And after that it may get backported to 17.10 only if people can confirm the fix is helping them. I would love to get feedback from more users on that -- it seemed to not make any difference for me when I tried it.
