[Bug 1585332] Re: Graphical snaps don't follow the window theme

2018-01-11 Thread Alan Pope  濾
** Description changed:

- Graphical snaps don't follow the window and icon themes selected by the user
(GTK them and probably KDE ones as well).
- Instead, they are displayed using that ugly basic theme that is used when the
theme can't be found.
+ Confined graphical GTK & Qt applications do not use the user-selected or
+ default theme of the end-user desktop outside Ubuntu.

- One example of this is the keepassx-elopio snap.
+ # Expected behaviour

- I think snappy should somehow allow access to the required directories
- (/usr/share/themes, /usr/share/icons, ~/.themes, ~/.icons, and maybe
- others).
+ Graphical snaps should seamlessly integrate with the desktop, using
+ theme, font and other visual preferences selected by the user.
+
+ # Actual behaviour
+
+ Outside Ubuntu proper, applications look un-themed. They don't match
+ other applications on the same desktop which are not snapped.
+ Applications look like 'Windows 95' (or worse) and are thus not
+ appealing to use.
+
+ # Steps to reproduce
+
+ 1. Install a recent one of the following systems:-
+
+ Debian Squeeze, Ubuntu MATE, Solus Budgie, Fedora 27
+ (The above is by no means an exhaustive list of affected systems. Essentially
install anything that isn't "Ubuntu Proper")
+
+ 2. Enable snap support if not already enabled, as per
+ https://docs.snapcraft.io/core/install
+
+ 3. Install a graphical application such as the gimp from the archive
+
+ e.g. apt install gimp, dnf install gimp, eopkg install gimp
+
+ 4. Install the same graphical application from the snap store
+
+ e.g. sudo snap install gimp
+
+ 4. Run both instances of the application
+
+ e.g. /usr/bin/gimp && snap run gimp
+
+ 5. Compare the look and feel of each set of windows.
+
+ Bonus: Change the theme on your install and observe the archive-
+ installed application change look, and the snap one not to.
+
+ Attached are example screenshots.

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-01-11 Thread Erik Snelleman
Hi guys, everyone speaks about ubuntu 17.10 in combination with a Lenovo laptop.
I have Lenovo thinkpad E530 and use Xubuntu which is also affected.
USB devices cannot be used to install a new system.
Keyboard and mousepad dont work (internally also USB devices I guess).
External keyboard and mouse dont work.

So als Ubuntu derivatives have the same issue.
Xubuntu can still be downloaded. In some cases you see a warning when you want
to download it but it is not blocked. And now my laptop is dead as well. Thank
you :-((

[Bug 1736116] Re: Host with kernel 4.13 freezes when starting a VM with VirtualBox

2018-01-11 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Given the recent accelerated upgrade to 4.13 in 16.04 HWE wouldn't a
simple option be to also upgrade virtualbox in 16.04 to 5.1 to get
around this issue? Before this was something that probably only affected
a few people on HWE-edge but now with Spectre/Meltdown people will be
hitting this much more often.

[Bug 1742695] Re: apt-get update silently fails fetching security updates

2018-01-11 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Really? It should print that it could not reach the server. Transient
errors like that are ignored success-state wise so you don't end up with
tons of error messages when you are offline or your connection is
broken. I want to rework this eventually to give more control on what
constitutes an error, but that's a long way off.

[Bug 1530277] Re: gtk-window-decorator incorrectly draws the title bar if GDK_SCALE is set

2018-01-11 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
Yes, this bug is reproducible also on non-HiDPI. Start GNOME Flashback
session or any other that would use compiz + gtk-window-decorator. Then
use terminal to restart gtk-window-decorator:

- GDK_SCALE=2 gtk-window-decorator --replace &
This will show broken decorations if using version without fix, otherwise you
should not see any difference.

After testing just do:
- gtk-window-decorator --replace &
- exit

[Bug 1742696] [NEW] Commit d9018976cdb6 missing in Kernels <4.14.x preventing lasting fix of Intel SPI bug on certain serial flash

2018-01-11 Thread Christian List
Public bug reported:

New bug forked out of Bug #1734147 "corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug
in kernel Edit"

When trying to apply the proposed fix in Bug #1734147 to a Lenovo Yoga
with Serial Flash s25fl064k, the actual fix works, however reverting
back to original available Kernel <4.14.x again locks the BIOS for
write.

How to identify chip: Using the Fix Kernel from Bug #1734147 the kernel log
will show intel-spi entries.
In lower part serial is shown as below:

intel-spi intel-spi: s25fl064k (8192 Kbytes)

Additional Information:
Lenovo Yoga running Linux Mint 18.3 (based on Xenial 16.04)
Bug #1734147 occured when trying Ubuntu 17.10

Explanation by Mika Westerberg (Bug #1734147, Comment #524)
"commit d9018976cdb6 is missing with this particular BIOS/system because every
time you boot the system, the BIOS resets to default when it finds BCR register
is changed. This is different issue than the CMP=1 issue most of the users have
reported. This one also is not permanent so everything is fine as long as you
don't touch that BCR register. In this case you either need to always boot to a
kernel where that fix (d9018976cdb6) is included or blacklist lpc_ich.ko.
Ubuntu v4.14.x kernels have that fix included so you might want to take one of
them or build your own."

New bug requested to discuss this separate from main Bug #1734147
Anthony Wong (Bug #1734147, Comment #525)
"Looks like we need to cherry-pick it to 4.13 after all.
Christian, do you mind opening a new bug for your issue? We should continue the
discussion and fix over there."

[Bug 1742695] [NEW] apt-get update silently fails fetching security updates

2018-01-11 Thread Roman Fiedler
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Xenial, apt-get fails silently when security update server
cannot be reached. This state could be detected by scanning the apt-get
output afterwards. But manually adding workarounds to each apt-get
invocation in production automation is prone to error, thus leaving
machines without security updates.

Expected behaviour (e.g.):
* 0 - all OK
* 1 - temporary failure (e.g. network)

the ISO image in the QA page does give a link to 18.04 lubuntu desktop
download, but when you run the iso on a VM, it shows "lubuntu 17.10"
instead of "lubuntu 18.04". However, after install and login, when
running head /etc/apt/sources.list, it shows "Bionic Beaver".

[Bug 1742691] [NEW] FTBFS libi2c detection is broken

2018-01-11 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I ran into this FTBFS when I wanted to rebuild in Ubuntu to pick up the new
DPDK 17.11.

error: 'i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data' undeclared (first use in this
function); did you mean 'i2c_smbus_ioctl_data'?

Upstream in i2c this came by the change:

  commit 251d594fd0d338c7b85707a2e72153a404a25b10
  Author: Jean Delvare
  Date: Mon May 21 16:52:48 2012 +

New library for I2C device access under Linux. As a first step, the
library will host the i2c_smbus_*() inline functions which were
previously in the user-space flavor of .

I reported the issue upstream so they can add a proper toleration for
the change in the i2c lib.

Short term the following does the trick to get it building at least (obviously
without i2c):
  confflags += --disable-barometer

I've observed a regression in snapd on 18.04 daily where launching URLs
from confined snapped applications no longer works.

## Expected behaviour

Clicking a menu entry or button that links to a URL should open the link
in my default browser.

No link is opened.

## Steps to reproduce the behaviour

  * Install Ubuntu 18.04 (daily) or Ubuntu MATE 18.04 (daily)
  * snap install gimp
  * snap run gimp
  * Mouse to Help -> GIMP Online -> Developer Website

[Bug 1732695] Re: ImportError: No module named 'PyQt5.QtWebKit'

2018-01-11 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
> /home/marco/.local/lib/python3.5/site-packages/PyQt5

This means you *do* have a local PyQt5 installation. It is not a
virtualenv and this directory is in global Python search path. Delete
this directory and ReText should start working.

If you have some local code that needs a custom PyQt5, then use a
virtualenv for it.

I am closing this bug as it happens only when a custom PyQt5 installed,
and there is no way to fix this. This bug should no longer happen with
ReText 6.0 or newer, as WebKit support became optional there.

[Bug 1742676] [NEW] Ubuntu kernels 4.10+ hard freeze on Thinkpad X230 about 10 minutes after a boot.

2018-01-11 Thread Andrew Shadura
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Any Ubuntu kernels since 4.10 hard freeze my X230 about 10 minutes after
the boot. I don't, unfortunately, have any logs, as usually the system
freezes before the logs sync to the disk. Immediately before the freeze,
iwlwifi disconnects and fails to connect back, spewing a few messages
about firmware errors, and then the whole system freezes.

The last kernel I can use successfully is Ubuntu 4.8 series.

[Bug 1735160] Re: [SRU] Please backport python3-macaroonbakery 0.0.6-1 [universe] from bionic

2018-01-11 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Oh I removed the python3 patch from the series but the not actual file.

Regarding 17.10 sil2100 confirmed me that this is required. But at least
it's going to be easier considering that:

- python3-httmock is already in artful (1.2.6-1 universe)
- python3-protobuf is already in artful (3.0.0-9ubuntu5 universe) (so no need
to apply the nacl patch in py-macaroon-bakery)
- python3-nacl's version of artful is 1.1.1-1build2 (so no need to apply the
nacl patch in py-macaroon-bakery)

The only things to be done are:
- target
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/google-apputils-python/+bug/1735162
for 17.10 too
- relax python3-six deps in py-macaroon-bakery
- SRU python3-pymacaroons

[Bug 1741113] Re: package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.12 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-01-11 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Your /var/log/samba/cores directory is owned by user "ats", not root.
The same goes for the inner nmbd and smbd directories.

Please change that by running this command:

sudo chown root /var/log/samba/cores /var/log/samba/cores/*

And then try the systemctl restart command from earlier again.

[Bug 1742671] [NEW] SNMPD hangs when a client browses a restricted OID

2018-01-11 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

Overview:
When snmpd is configured to show a limited view of oids using VACM, it is
possible to cause snmpd to hang by performing an snmpwalk.

Tested on 5.7.2~dfsg-8.1ubuntu3.2 on Mint 17.1 (aka Ubuntu 14.04) and
5.7.3+dfsg-1ubuntu4 on Ubuntu 16.04.3

Steps to reproduce:
Use VACM to restrict the OIDs that a user has access to as follows: (I'll
attach a full snmpd.conf below)
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.2
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.31

Perform an snmpwalk NOT using bulk walk

Expected result; A listing of the contents of those three OID trees

Actual result; snmpwalk will list all the OIDs up to
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.22 and then hang.

All subsequent attempts to query any SNMP will time out. SNMPD has to be
restarted before it will respond again. There doesn't seem to be
anything useful in the logs.

Mitigation:
If the user is also allowed to browse two more OIDs the problem goes away:
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.2
# Necessary OIDs
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.25
#
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.31

Or, only query the host using snmpbulkwalk.
