Hello Scott, or anyone else affected,
Accepted python-cliff into pike-proposed. The package will build now and
be available in the Ubuntu Cloud Archive in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.
Please help us by testing this new package. To enable the -proposed
repository:
sudo
I'm sseing this issue with a HDStar DVB-S2 USB tuner (uses the same
SU3000 board) on xubuntu 16.04.4.

According to the crash tracker, this happened since 0.91 all the way to
current PPA builds (with a huge spike for 0.91-7ubuntu2 in ubuntu 16.04,
but that's probably only because of the LTS, etc).

release combination you're working with and I can get a PPA built.

Thanks for the feedback, Colin.
I will do some more research/testing.
At least for now here is a workaround:
1) when booting, enter grub startup menu
2) enter 'e' to edit command before upstart
3) delete the line saying "gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode"
4) hit CTRL-x to start boot
