[Bug 1752378] Re: Please add Userspace Packages for NVDIMM support

2018-03-29 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Hi Marcin,

I'm planning on splitting the *_dbg directories out into their own
packages. Including runtime libraries from /usr/lib/$ARCH/*_dbg/ in the
-dev package wasn't very popular.

I'm still working out the details, but it should be more or less like this
(using libpmem as an example):
libpmem1: continues as is
libpmem-dev: no longer includes /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvml_dbg; has small
patch to manpages explaining that nvml_dbg is in a new package in Ubuntu systems
libpmem1-debug: ships /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvml_dbg/lib*.so.*
libpmem-dev-debug: ships /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvml_dbg/{lib*.a,lib*.so}
and requires libpmem1-debug

Is the separate dev package necessary? I.e., do you need the special
debug library build when linking with your applications and wanting the
extra logging? Or can apps keep linking against the normal library, and
just set LD_LIBRARY_PATH when they need extra logging? I assume the
latter, so the dev-debug package wouldn't be necessary.

Enjoy your holidays. I'm off on Friday (March 30th) but back on Monday.

[Bug 1752306] Re: Security bug in XMLTooling-C before 1.6.4 [CVE-2018-0489]

2018-03-29 Thread Ray Link
Debdiff attached which fixes the problem for Xenial.

Since there is no corresponding Debian release to fakesync this from for
Xenial, I've just recreated the patch sequence against the version
already in Xenial. It includes the same two quilt patches which have
been fake-synced into Trusty, and already exist in Bionic:

- A one-line patch to add 'disallowDoctype' to the parser configuration.
While this does nothing under the Xerces 3.1 in Xenial, it provides
generic impersonation protection for Xerces 3.2. This patch is a pre-
req to get the upstream CVE-2018-0489 patch to apply cleanly.

- Upstream's patch for CVE-2018-0489.

** Patch added: "debdiff for Xenial"

[Bug 1509839] Re: segfault on start of live session in kactivitymanager / libqt5sql

2018-03-29 Thread private_lock via ubuntu-bugs
I still own the same notebook so I could test it on the same hardware.
But I wasn't able to freeze it a single time using multiple Kubuntu
AMD64 ISO installed to USB-pendrives.

The following worked like a charm:
16.10
17.4
17.10
17.10.1
18.4.beta1

So I think you can safely close this bug.

[Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2018-03-29 Thread apjjr
This happened on my Toshiba Satellite C55 running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS after
the last update. I ran "xrandr --auto" once after finally getting into
the GUI by booting into maintenance mode and resuming normal boot. It
seems to have fixed the problem for the time being. I can close the lid
for sleep mode and upon opening the lid, the screen comes back with the
login prompt, even after a power down. I am mystified.

[Bug 1751813] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 installer does not detect any IPR based HDD/RAID array [S822L] [ipr]

2018-03-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
When booting proposed images which have not yet migrated to the release
pocket, one must also specify 'apt-setup/proposed=true' and the mirror
you use must have up to date bionic-proposed.

It is best to not download d-i from ports.ubuntu.com, but instead please
use your local mirror - to ensure the d-i published there, matches the
available kernel udebs on your mirror. You should be mirroring
main/installer-* and main/debian-installer/*.

Also please specify which d-i serial number is in use. (check
/var/lib/dpkg/info for the debian-installer package) or instead of the
symlink url /current/ use the one with the build serial and let me know
which one that is.

Also note, that 20101020ubuntu535 build serial has migrated to bionic-
release, thus if you are using 20101020ubuntu535 or later, with an up to
date mirror, 'apt-setup/proposed=true' should not be needed and you
should have access to all the latest kernel modules.

If you do not, please check that your mirror is up to date. It was fully
published on 2018-03-27 03:04:31 BST, together with the 4.15.0-13.14
kernel. Is 20101020ubuntu535 d-i synced to your internal mirror yet?

I am marking this bug report incomplete until you provide the d-i serial
number in use.

(please note, this is not the first time that d-i erorrs are reported
_without_ specifying d-i serial number in use. Without d-i serial
number, it is very hard to speculate and assist with your queries.)

[Bug 1759787] [NEW] Very inaccurate TSC clocksource on HP ProLiant DL380 Gen10 with kernel 4.13

2018-03-29 Thread Paul Gear
Public bug reported:

On kernel 4.13.0-37-generic, HP ProLiant DL380 Gen10 systems have been
observed with very large clock offsets, as measured by NTP. Over the
past few days on one of our production systems, we've used 3 different
kernels: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/nDkkgRqdtv/

All of these kernels default to the TSC clocksource, which is supposed
to be very reliable on Skylake-X CPUs. On 4.4 (linux-image-generic-lts-
xenial) it works as expected; on 3.13 (trusty default kernel) it works a
little worse, and on 4.13 (linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04) it is much
worse. Today I switched 4.13 from the TSC clocksource to the HPET
clocksource and it improved the situation dramatically.

I've produced loopstats & peerstats graphs from NTP corresponding to the
dates in the pastebin above and placed them at
https://people.canonical.com/~paulgear/ntp/.

[Bug 1671882] Re: lvm2 & grub-pc packages not seeded in Lubuntu 16.10 amd64

2018-03-29 Thread Adrian
Unfortunately this Bug is not fixed in release Lubuntu 17.10.1 amd64. Choosing
LVM option results in "Autopartitioning using LVM failed because an error
occured while creating the volume group". Workaround:
Choose the "Try Lubuntu" option from the boot menu so that you get a working
desktop. OR
Quit Installation
Choose "start menu" -> "system tools" -> "LXTerminal"
At the console prompt, type:
sudo apt-get install lvm2
Then run the installer icon from the desktop ("Install Lubuntu 17.10").

Manjaro installation will cope with that. But I can definitely try it...
Do you happen to have instructions somewhere on how to build a kernel yourself?

[Bug 1726112] Re: akonadi-backend-postgresql missing in 17.10

2018-03-29 Thread Ferry Toth
Debian builds:

akonadi-backend-postgresql_17.08.3-2_all.deb
akonadi-backend-postgresql_17.12.2-1_all.deb

Any reason why not to build this? The psql backend just works if you
configure it. And if you are already running postgresql you can
eliminate running a 2nd sql server.

[Bug 1757057] Re: sysfs test in ubuntu_stress_smoke will induce kernel oops on X-HWE ppc64le

2018-03-29 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
I was able to reproduce the bug also with 4.13.0-37.42~16.04.1, so this
is not a regression.

I suspected this issue is uncovered now due to recent changes on the
stressor to make it more stressful.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm on the release team and I wanted to make

conveyed that.

[Bug 1759732] Re: [Lubuntu] Having zram support means that encrypted LVM installs don't work

2018-03-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I agree. I think it is sane for partman-auto-crypto to unmount zram or
skip the checks for it.

Is zram still in use, in the installed systems too? Does it affect
encryption at rest? (e.g. does zram memory remain unencrypted upon
hybernate?)

[Bug 1759791] [NEW] NFS + sec=krb5 is broken

2018-03-29 Thread mtemp
Public bug reported:

I am testing the development branch of Bionic Beaver.
With the latest update to kernel 4.15.0-13 my nfs-mounts in a university
network are broken.

Known good version: linux-image-4.15.0-10

I think it is the same bug like in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1558977
The bug was introduced in the mainline kernel 4.15.4 with commit
"[46e8d06e423c4f35eac7a8b677b713b3ec9b0684] crypto: hash - prevent using keyed
hashes without setting key"

This bug should be fixed before releasing ubuntu18.04 by either
reverting the commit or using a fixed mainline kernel.

Regarding the zram smoke test, according to bug 1755073 that bug is also

mailing which is going to be committed to the next SRU cycle. Based on
that, I'm marking regression-testing as 'Fix Released'.

[Bug 1658592] Re: systemd-resolved causing google.com not reachable

2018-03-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
You may also use dig, to discover and check things by-passing resolved.

E.g. $ dig google.com.sg @8.8.8.8

Note that 8.8.8.8 is globally distributed DNS using anycast routing,
meaning the results from 8.8.8.8 that I see, may not be the results you
see.

google.com.sg looks ok for me, and google.com too. However, the redirect
from google.com -> google.com.sg is location dependant.

If you hit, this or similar problem in the future, it would be helpful to
attach output of $ systemd-resolve --status
As that shows what upstream DNS servers resolved is using. Most of the time,
using 8.8.8.8 is the wrong answer, and you should, ideally, use your internal
workplace and/or ISP DNS =)

Furthermore '$ journalctl -b -e -u systemd-resolved' may show warnings
and errors from DNS resolutions.

$ systemd-resolve --flush-caches
$ systemd-resolve --reset-server-features

Are also useful debugging tools, to flush resolved state - drop cached
responses, and revert to trying DNS requests with highest feature set
(e.g. with EDNS0 / dnssec / etc).

[Bug 1752165] Re: TB16 dock freezes X on hotplug when used with external displays

2018-03-29 Thread Georgi Boiko
Different monitors used in #26, same monitors in all other cases.
Hopefully Bionic installer will be fixed in the .4 release and I will be
able to try it out.

Possibly helpful: I was trying out 4.15 kernels from xenial-proposed for
another ticket and the issue remains the same on 4.15. nVidia drivers
have gone up to 390.25 since the original post too and the issue
remains.

[Bug 1759809] [NEW] Bionic update to 4.15.14 stable release

2018-03-29 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.15.14 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.15.14 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1759814] [NEW] upgrade to hwe-16.04 kernel has broken hibernate/resume

2018-03-29 Thread Martin Stechert
Public bug reported:

Upgrading to hwe-16.04 (i.e. from 4.4.0-116-generic to 4.13.0-37-generic,
amd64) has broken suspend to disk on my machine.
Suspend works fine, hibernation file is written to disk and system is powered
off.
During resume kernel is started and and the hibernation file is loaded.
Immediately after 100% screen is blanked, fans are still running but no SSH
possible, NumLock on keyboard is not working. So machine seems dead.
That happens for every suspend.
I could not read any error message before screen is blanked.
No messages from suspend found in syslog or kernel.log.
I tried to make it more verbose with "initcall_debug no_console_suspend
ignore_loglevel", but I have not managed to make messages persistent till next
boot.

[Bug 1750385] Re: Poor wifi signal with RTL8723BE and 4.13.0-32 kernel

2018-03-29 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Interesting.
Maybe CONFIG_RTLWIFI_DEBUG=y workaround the issue? The value is not set on
Ubuntu.

Can you build a kernel without setting "CONFIG_RTLWIFI_DEBUG=y" on
Manjaro?

Regarding the ThunderX zram smoke test, according to bug 1755073 that
bug is also on upstream and a SAUCE patch with a interim fix has been
sent to the mailing which is going to be committed to the next SRU
