It could also be considered from view that currently it's not a terribly reliable plugin. [Bug 1774915] Re: Video freezes and stutters when using totem (audio continues fine)
Sorry for the long delay in responding - had to wait for some other things to finish so I could switch from Xorg to Wayland. The same types of pauses/lags/freezes happen to me under Wayland using mpv as were happening under Xorg. They may be slightly less frequent (subjective judgment, no actual counts done), but they still occur. Also, I find that I am unable to close mpv under Wayland. Alt-F4 does nothing, nor does going to the Window menu and choosing Quit. The video continues, and I am not sure exactly what else to use to close it (other than just waiting for it to finish running) - I don't know much about mpv. Closing wasn't a problem under Xorg - either of the two methods mentioned above worked there. [Bug 1763830] Re: [MIR] gce-compute-image-packages
I reviewed gce-compute-image-packages version 20180129+dfsg1-0ubuntu3 as checked into bionic. This is not a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. I didn't see any CVEs in our database. - gce-compute-image-packages provides utilities and integration useful on Google's cloud hosting platform, including new account creation, centralized account management, granting blanket sudo rules, ssh keys, and a variety of other configuration tools. - Build-Depends: cmake, debhelper, dh-python, dh-systemd, libcurl4-openssl-dev, libgtest-dev, libjson-c-dev, libpam-dev, python-all, python-setuptools, python3-all, python3-setuptools, python-pytest, python3-pytest, python-mock, python-boto, python3-boto - Several daemons started via systemd, do not themselves daemonize - pre/post inst/rm scripts are automatically generated code, except for a piece that will stop services before removing them - No initscripts; systemd unit files to start: - accounts daemon - clock skew daemon - instance setup - ip forwarding daemon - network setup - shutdown scripts - startup scripts - No dbus services - No setuid - Adds several binaries to PATH: - google_accounts_daemon - google_clock_skew_daemon - google_instance_setup - google_ip_forwarding_daemon - google_metadata_script_runner - google_network_setup - optimize_local_ssd - set_multiqueue - google_authorized_keys - google_oslogin_control - No sudo fragments in the static packaging -- adds new sudo entries at runtime, however - udev rules to add some device nodes, permissions, set storage parameters - Small-ish test suite run during the build, this is a hard thing to test in isolation but hopefully this is helpful - Some subprocesses are spawned, via string-based execution tools; sometimes with only the authentication server's checks for username validity to ensure shell metachars aren't included in inputs. Ideally these would perform checks for shell metachars directly. - memory management looked careful - Files are written to -- including sudoers files -- and if the umask of the process isn't correct, it might allow a race condition for local attacks. - No environment variable use - Privileged functions looked careful, with exception of writing sudoers files - No cryptography - No privileged portions of code - No temporary files - Does not use WebKit - Does not use PolicyKit - Clean cppcheck - pam_sm_acct_mgmt() functions rely upon the correct behaviour of a remote web service to prevent local security problems with usernames that include e.g. ../../.. substrings. - pam_sm_acct_mgmt() in pam_oslogin_admin.cc creates a sudoers file before setting appropriate permissions; if C++ doesn't have a mechanism to expose open(2)'s modes, then it would be best to set the umask() to something restrictive before this open() call. - Is /lib/libnss_google-compute-engine-oslogin-1.1.4.so the right path for libraries? Sergei, "performance" is a general category of problems that includes dropped frames. For example, in gnome-shell I have separated those issues: https://trello.com/c/Q6JYXPPs from the ones that incur measurably high hardware usage: https://trello.com/c/pe5mRmx7 A low frame rate is still a performance problem even if it's not stressing the hardware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774915 Title: Video freezes and stutters when using totem (audio continues fine) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1774915] Re: Video freezes and stutters when using totem (audio continues fine)
Before we merge this bug into bug 1698270 I would like to hear Tracy's response to comment #25. Then I expect we will need/want to get more of the above lists of gnome- shell performance issues fixed before we can confidently say this issue exists purely within video playback. P.S. If the problem is purely a video playback issue then my suspicion is that some component is implementing frame dropping incorrectly. If it is implemented using double buffers then you can easily starve the screen of new frames while repeatedly (racily) replacing the backbuffer. The right approach then is to use 3 buffers and the mailbox algorithm. The mailbox algorithm is nothing new, but that's what Vulkan calls it anyway: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/api-without-secrets- introduction-to-vulkan-part-2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774915 Title: Video freezes and stutters when using totem (audio continues fine) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1748147] Re: [SRU] debhelper support override from /etc/tmpfiles.d for systemd
I didn't see this as a bug in debhelper because, based on the Debian bug, it seems to me that the use case of one package's tmpfiles.d/ file overriding another was not considered, even if systemd can handle it underneath. From that perspective, debhelper supporting lexical sort based overriding is a feature request in debhelper, not a bug; and rsyslog packaging relying on an unimplemented debhlper "feature" is the bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1748147 Title: [SRU] debhelper support override from /etc/tmpfiles.d for systemd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/debhelper/+bug/1748147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: when i open thunderbird, there are clipart images on my screen which don't belong there. ive tried purging thunderbird reinstalling and manually downloading a deb. the images appear to move as i scroll. the images change, there are different types of images. ive included a screen shot. there are clip art like emjoicons images like palm tree, fire symbols, trucks, smileys with green money symbols, pizza. as i move my mouse over them they sort of disappear. it's a glitch not sure why it's doing this.
