[Bug 1789352] Re: GUI hang when installation with nvidia/intel hybrid mode

2018-08-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1789352/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1780233] Re: libpng16-16 needs ZLIB_1.2.9 but package does not install it

2018-08-28 Thread Andreas Nicolai
Bug appears to be related to software build and linked against different
version of libz:

Analysis:

Output of ld when trying to build an application that uses libpng16:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng16.so.16: undefined reference to
`inflateReset2@ZLIB_1.2.3.4'
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng16.so.16: undefined reference to
`inflateValidate@ZLIB_1.2.9'

Output of ldd (same output as above):

> ldd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng16.so.16
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x7ffeda752000)
libz.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libz.so.1 (0x7f0dd35dd000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x7f0dd323f000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f0dd2e4e000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7f0dd3a2c000)

checking for missing symbols:

> readelf --syms /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng16.so.16 | grep inflateReset2
 9: 0 FUNCGLOBAL DEFAULT UND
inflateReset2@ZLIB_1.2.3.4 (4)

Ok, symbol appears to be there. Why does ld pop up the error?

--> linker command line references an older z-lib earlier on in the
library dependencies -> hence, zlib from system is not used (though
required by libpng16).

Solution: remove linker dependency to custom libz (remove "-lz") and try
linking against system libz.

[Bug 1789118] Re: Fails to boot under Xen PV: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at edc21fd9

2018-08-28 Thread Andy Smith
32-bit kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.18
/linux-image-4.15.18-041518-generic_4.15.18-041518.201804190330_i386.deb
does not boot, in fact it crashes immediately without producing any
console output at all (so doesn't get as far as the currently-packaged
linux-image-generic).

The 64-bit package http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v4.15.18/linux-
image-4.15.18-041518-generic_4.15.18-041518.201804190330_amd64.deb boots
and seems to behave as expected.

Would it help if I went back through package versions of linux-image-
generic until I find one that does boot? I know for certain that one of
them does because this was encountered only after an update.

It looks like that ntfs mount instructions are ignored and replaced by somewhat
else.

[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2018-08-28 Thread hariprasad
Hello Lucas, thank you for response. Yes, badly setted kernel parameters
can cause very serious problems. Additionally, I can comfirm, that
problem is not bounded only on Samsung NVME SSD, but It occurs on Intel
SSD-6 series as well. It looks like, that problem is in ASPM SSD Driver
- kernel parameters. There are a few errors, which came in one time. The
easiest way, how to simulate initframfs error during startup/restart is
to install Thunderbird and download thousands emails from cloud e.q.
google mail to generate traffic on SSD. Than install and startup
Firefox, add plugins for video (Player) and stertup video. Firefox for
Linux (last version was something about 57-61) is unstable on Linux
(generally, not only Ubuntu), than Firefox begin crash, and issues -
"Would you like to restart and recover Firefox?". It streses the SSD and
after a few restores (about 10) probably begin crash Thunderbird. It is
the time for restart system. Probably - there will be issue, that it is
not possible to start Ubuntu and initframfs error occured.

[Bug 1789419] [NEW] lynx will not recognize white space in filenames

2018-08-28 Thread Larry Tate
Public bug reported:

I'm using a script to find a list of all .pdf files on a url. But lynx
seems to have a problem with spaces in filenames. Here's the script:

lynx --dump http://www.somesite/here/ | awk '/http/{print $2} | grep
pdf > ~/Desktop/links.txt

This works as expected until there is a .pdf with whitespace in the
filename. Lynx seems to truncate the filename at the whitespace.

[Bug 1788432] Re: 4.15 s390x kernel BUG at /build/linux-Gycr4Z/linux-4.15.0/drivers/block/virtio_blk.c:565!

2018-08-28 Thread Colin Ian King
I think this is a race in ccw_io_helper(). The stress-ng sysfs stressor
is running multiple threaded reads of
/sys/devices/css0/0.0./0.0./virtio0/block/vda/cache_type which
results in reads via virtio_cread8() and ultimately reads using
virtio_ccw_get_config()

I added debug into virtio_cread8 and it returns 1 99% of the time, and
sometimes in a threaded read we get it returning garbage, such as 200 in
the following trace:

[   39.76] virtio_cread8 32 -> 1

[Bug 1755912] Re: qemu-system-x86_64 crashed with SIGABRT when using option -vga qxl

2018-08-28 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Running the Bionic ISO like:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -cpu host -smp cores=4,threads=2 -boot d -m 2048
-enable-kvm -vga qxl -vnc :21 -cdrom ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso

Attaching like:
$ vncviewer FullColor=1 AutoSelect=0 10.245.168.42:5921
(alternatives on tigervnc)
Well for me it had "-k de" as well :-)

Then boot into the "try Ubuntu" live CD mode.
There opened a terminal to loop on xrandr.

Running the loop of above in that guest to crash it after a while.

[Bug 1788997] Re: rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-33-generic

2018-08-28 Thread Heribert Heckhoff
Same story here with HP 17-y009ng, 16.04 worked like a charm, with
ant_sel=2 ( after having had a hard time to find out that this option
was a must).

Kernel 4.15.0.32 worked as well after upgrade to 18.04-1.

No more wifi signal after update to kernel 4.1.5.0-33. Tried all other
module options but had no success.

Currently booting with kernel 4.15.0-32

You must not only remove the PPA entries but also remove the software
installed from these PPAs or revert to versions from the official Ubuntu
repositories. That's why Brian recommended to use ppa-purge instead of
just removing them with the Software Properties tool.

[Bug 1789395] Re: NO_IMPLICIT_EXTERN_C is not set - leads to C++ compilation errors

Note that this shortcoming also troubles a lot of people that use the
alternative none-eabi compiler available from arm directly:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded/+bug/1698539 but they show
exceptional do-not-care attitude.

[Bug 1570122] Re: ipv6 prefix delegated subnets are not accessable external of the router they are attached.

2018-08-28 Thread Lars Erik Pedersen
It works initally, but if we reboot the l3-agent that has the router,
the ip6tables rule disappears when the router is re-created on a new
l3-agent.

After adding this manually:

ip6tables -t mangle -A neutron-l3-agent-scope -i qg-28f7e259-d2 -j MARK
--set-xmark 0x400/0x

it works again.

kernel 4.15 will hang when using NOUVEAU to probe nvidia DGP.

+ GUI hang, and installation can NOT proceed.

Add nomodeset or blacklist nouveau will be a workaround for hang issue, and
continue install Ubuntu bionic and install nvidia driver.
- After nvidia driver is installed, DGP works well.
+ After nvidia driver is installed, DGPU works well.

Add these workarounds always confuses users.

[Bug 1786432] Re: Collect DCD file

2018-08-28 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I'm not sure all the OEM use the DCD file. We can keep the OEM
true/false as it is an installation mode that can be used by anyone
without remastering the entire image.

** Description changed:

OEM use a tracking id called Distribution Channel Descriptor (DCD)
located in .disk/ubuntu_dist_channel and installed by Ubiquity to
  /var/lib/ubuntu_dist_channel

When this information exists ubuntu-report must collect the tracking id.
The proposal is to store it in the OEM key:

  [...]
