[Bug 1792045] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 external USB hard drive performance 1/10th of 16.04
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection? First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Then, $ sudo apt build-dep linux $ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git $ cd linux $ git bisect start $ git bisect good $(the good version you found) $ git bisect bad $(the bad version found) $ make localmodconfig $ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it. If the issue still happens, $ git bisect bad Otherwise, $ git bisect good Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792045 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 external USB hard drive performance 1/10th of 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1792045/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1740517] Re: [SRU] SDL2 2.0.6 isn't compiled with Vulkan support
No need to update 1.2, at least for Vulkan support. If no one is complaining about loadso for 1.2, I think it's safe to leave that alone in Bionic and just be correct going forward into Cosmic. We can always revisit in a separate bug report if something serious arises, but I don't predict that will happen. There shouldn't be any ABI issues; SDL still exports the same symbols, just some of those functions will return an error code immediately if support has been disabled. Since we need SDL to work with binaries that are shipped for generic "Linux" platforms that can't promise a specific distro or configuration (both for Steam and just delivering games outside of package managers in general), we are _religious_ about keeping a stable ABI in all circumstances for SDL...so it's safe to change those configure options even for LTS. --ryan. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740517 Title: [SRU] SDL2 2.0.6 isn't compiled with Vulkan support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsdl2/+bug/1740517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Experiencing similar issues/behavior in other gnome office apps: contacts and todo list. Contacts has actually given a useful error when trying to edit a google contact, but the error message disappears very quickly and cannot be copied or pasted. Attached is a screenshot. This is all occurring on a fresh install. All I did was install the software, link my google accounts, and try to run the apps. For some reason, they are not self-configuring with the google accounts correctly. ?field.comment=Experiencing similar issues in other gnome office apps: contacts and todo list. [Bug 1792857] [NEW] Mouse pointer is the wrong size after resuming from suspend
Public bug reported: After resuming from suspend, but mouse pointer is the wrong size when located in some parts of the screen. Specifically, when mousing over the left or top bars of the UI (not the desktop or any running programs), the pointer is too large. [Bug 1792849] [NEW] nvidia_supported have error excluding lot of supported video card
Public bug reported: I have a Nvidia GT 720M in my laptop and the only Drivers Ubuntu supply me is 340 which is dated from 2014. I think that OLD version was left in the repo because of the bug I'm talking about here. nvidia_supported script that generate a list of PCI ID from the README.txt have a problem that exclude a lot of PCI ID because of scripting error. Since 340 version, Nvidia changed the README.txt format, and the person who edited the nvidia_supported did some error there. [Bug 1792838] [NEW] 1804.1 - sticky-keys not working in gnome-flashback
Public bug reported: [Impact] I installed 1804.1 on my pc. I was previously running 1604 series. When using Gnome flashback sticky-keys settings do not work. I originally opened a ticket in (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- flashback/+bug/1790744). A fix has been released and the developer directed me to open a ticket here to get his fix into 18.04. [Test Case] While in gnome flashback go to system settings > Universal Access > Typing and set Stcky Keys ON. I also use Beep when a modifier key is pressed but that has never worked. Open any document or a new text file and test: it does not work. [Regression Potential] The developer implies his fix can be back ported to 1804. [Bug 1690085]
Hi, update from me, as promised. First my system for reference: 2700X B450 Chipset - Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO with F2 BIOS PSU from 2018 which is "Haswell compatible". Typical Current Idle AND disabling global c-states didn't help. Running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with its stock kernel 4.15.0-34 right now. I am having some success (4 days now) with all of that AND idle=nomwait kernel parameter - although I only read that to be related to resets and not freezes. Anyways. will keep my system on. I would like to trade in the LEDs on GPU and mainboard for vendors effort to get some stability in their systems. Any update from someone who really knows what is going on would be really appreciated. [Bug 1464064] Re: Ubuntu apt repos are not available via HTTPS
I agree that signing packages already solves most of the security issues, but I was genuinely surprised to just realise that Ubuntu isos are downloaded via plain http by following the recommended links on the official Ubuntu homepage. (most non-technical users aren't going to verify their iso!) I was even more surprised to realise that when following the Ubuntu "How to verify your Ubuntu download" it told me to download the checksums again via plain http and https wasn't even available! https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#2 http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/ The sky may not be falling for regular apt installs, but if the OS itself is compromisable than nothing else really matters. [Bug 1792835] [NEW] Bash completion for Inkscape does not work
Public bug reported: Bash completion for Inkscape does not work in Ubuntu 18.04. It will for example suggest non-svg files. The reason seems to be that /usr/share/bash- completion/completions/inkscape uses the have() function, which is temporarily defined in /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion, but then unset at the end of that file. Workaround: Copy /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/inkscape to ~/.local/share/bash-completion/completions/inkscape and remove the uses of "have". The bash completion for some other commands seem to use have() too, e.g. jackd, ufw, cowbuilder, dpatch_edit_patch, and axi-cache, so bash completion for these commands will presumably not work either. >From /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion: - # Backwards compatibility for compat completions that use have(). # @deprecated should no longer be used; generally not needed with dynamically # loaded completions, and _have is suitable for runtime use. have() { unset -v have _have $1 && have=yes } [...] unset -f have unset have - >From /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/inkscape: - [...] have inkscape && _inkscape() { [...] } [ "${have:-}" ] && complete -F _inkscape $filenames inkscape - System information: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy inkscape inkscape: Installed: 0.92.3-1 Candidate: 0.92.3-1 Version table: *** 0.92.3-1 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: inkscape (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792835 Title: Bash completion for Inkscape does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/1792835/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1792817] Re: pluma input lag (very slow)
Might have found it! Ran pluma on Ubuntu MATE live (18.04) and it didn't have the problem. So, I straced pluma to see what files were being loaded from my home directory and started methodically renaming things one at a time. Renaming ~/.fonts.conf seems to have done the trick for me. The contents of that file were: /home/REDACTED/.Fontmatrix/Activated I also renamed ~/.Fontmatrix for good measure. Did some searching and it seems that fontmatrix was last available back in 14.04. I didn't have it installed anymore, but it seems like something I might have checked out once upon a time. Anyhow, I hope this can get back to the developers and not silently closed.
