I had that same issue with xubuntu after 18.04 upgrade. First install
vino. Mine was removed on upgrade without any notice. Also even after
installing vino, the command vino-preferences doesn't work. Here is an
easy workaround. Install dconf-editor then open it and go to org-gnome-
desktop-remote
commit the relevant change to pbuilder's git, just removing the option.
If needed dpkg-buildpackage uses it by default anyway.

@Eric : Sosreport sent by email. Did you try the second time (with
cloud-init installed) to reproduce with unattended upgrades on shutdown
mode ? I did not mention it but upgrading the package outside of
unattended upgrades on shutdown mode works.

I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:

The test kernel can be downloaded from:

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on

It's just that by default it is expecting the chroot to be of the same
architecture of the host system, unless instructed otherwise.
Fixed that particular case here of the .changes file, but I wouldn't be
surprised if anything else was doing same bad assumption.
