I have the exact same issue with:
- Lenovo X260 (Core i5 - 16GB RAM)
- Lenovo Thinkpad Pro Dock 40A10065UK
I have tested and reproduced with both Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
I have also tested changing GDM3 to LightDM, to SDDM, as the freeze happened
when they were about to load and I thought it was a
Ack, makes sense that this happens — the first caffeination apparently
enables the screensaver at its end, leading to a suspend. It should
probably do something like a non-binary lock counter, so that only when
the last process ends, caffeination ends.

able to utilize both on the login screen. My default layout was Dvorak
(defined in /etc/default/keyboard).
When I upgraded to 18.04

I can confirm, the bug exists in Ubuntu 18.10
I tested the behaviour many times by enabling and disabling the USB-
Tethering from Android phone.
I found out, than if there are more than 7 pictures on the phone, the MTP
connection is VERY slow => bug
If I delete some photos, less than 7

When I boot my surface pro 3 without being attached to the docking station, it
boots and I can log in.
After being logged in, I can attach the docking station (with 2 additional
monitors) and it keeps working.

I'm not sure if my multi monitor issue in this version (18.04), that I'm
not able to switch left and right Monitor, is a variant of it. At
moment, it's not possible to set my left monitor as Secondary Monitor
