[Bug 1834990] [NEW] Cascade Lake system with DCPMM devices abends under stress

2019-07-01 Thread Jeff Lane
Private bug reported:

I've been trying to run the server certification tools on a server with
DPCMM devices that are configured as: 15% MemoryMode, 85% AppDirect
mode.

I've configured a fsdax, devdax, sector and raw devices on the DCPMMs.
fsdax, devdax and sector are all mountable, formatted etc.

The test runs CKing's stress-ng disk tests against the DCPMM storage
devices, and after so long, the entire server abends and resets.

This is the exact same test we run on all servers and it never causes
this sort of behaviour. So the likely issues:

1: Some odditiy in testing the AppDirect storage devices on DCPMMs.
2: Some Kernel thing that's not able to deal with high I/O loads on DCPMMs.

I'm currently in the middle of recreating this abit easier, so I'll provide
directions soon.

[Bug 1036236] Re: hpcups and hpijs driver use different rasterization

2019-07-01 Thread Matt Whitlock
While debugging an unrelated issue with printing to my HP LaserJet 1012,
I switched from the "hpcups" driver to the "hpijs" driver, and I am
**BLOWN AWAY** by the quality of its dithering. After seeing the
difference, I am absolutely appalled at how poorly the "hpcups" driver
dithers grayscales. I had no idea that my cheap little laser printer
could produce such great looking graphics until I discovered the "hpijs"
driver. The "hpcups" driver is garbage by comparison.

Performance of Ubuntu 19.04 is some better, but sometimes (according to

[Bug 1820604] Re: curtin fails to find itself in subiquity snap, when running on serial-subiquity@.service

2019-07-01 Thread Jake Billo
I also receive the same "Unable to find helpers or 'curtin' exe to add
to path" error as Jim K reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/curtin/+bug/1820604/comments/18, after
defining a partition layout in the installer. I am installing on a
Lanner FW-8758 using a Rufus-generated USB stick and have tried both
"ubuntu-18.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso" and "ubuntu-18.04.2-server-
amd64.iso".

I activated the serial console output using similar instructions to
https://github.com/ynkjm/ubuntu-serial-install - mainly adding
"console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8" where necessary.

Unfortunately dropping to shell after the failure occurs won't let me
log in to investigate further, or at least I don't know the appropriate
credentials (root and ubuntu users with a blank password, or the same
username/password result in an authentication failure.)

When installing using VGA mode and without the grub parameters, this
error didn't occur on the same hardware and without having adjusted the
partitions on the SSD.

It'd be great to get an updated install ISO, or at least a workaround
that I could use to pre-prepare a USB stick in case I have to drop back
to using the console port.

[Bug 1834984] [NEW] gnome-shell freezes with 100% CPU when closing popup window

2019-07-01 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Whenever I run Netbeans 11 (using either openjdk11) and (eg):

1. Open Tools / Plugins.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Click on 'Add'.
4. Click 'Cancel'.

then gnome-shell freezes (except for the mouse), apparently indefinitely
(I have left it for 30+ minutes.)

I can login as another user via CTRL-ALT-F1 and kill the frozen session
using loginctl. Sometimes this kills gnome-shell completely and I have
to power cycle; other times I can switch back to the login with CTRL-
ALT-F1 and continue.

This also usually happens when I close any other popup windows in
Netbeans.

I have tried making the popup windows modal and non-modal, but it makes
no difference.

[Bug 1834981] [NEW] scan area does not match preview selection

2019-07-01 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Using Brother MFC-9340CDW to scan.

After selecting a region in the Preview window, "Scan" scans the wrong
area. The scanned area is "kind of" related to the selcted area, but
off significantly. The scan includes extra area to the upper left, and
truncates ares from the lower right.

Please see attached screen shot, which shows the preview window and scan
results.
Note that the dashed line selected in the preview does not correspond to the
area actually scanned.

[Bug 1834981] Re: scan area does not match preview selection

2019-07-01 Thread jimav
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Install brother MFC-9340CDW :-)
2. Put newsprint or similar on flat bed.

3. Start xsane. In preview window, select +zoom and click somewhere to zoom in.
Then right-click to stop zoom function, and left-click-drag to select a
small scan area (about 1x1 inches)

4. Click Scan button in the main window.

RESULTS: The scan contains the wrong part of the image

EXPECTED RESULT: Scan should contain the area shown in the dotted box in
the Preview window.

[Bug 1829829] Re: Ubuntu CI has been flaky for a week

2019-07-01 Thread Evgeny Vereshchagin
> it looks like @laney is listed there, which is probably appropriate
(he has admin access to the test systems, while I don't)

My understanding is that @laney can help with the infrastructure where
the tests are run. What usually happens on Ubuntu CI for the most part
has nothing to do with the infrastructure. I'd say it's pretty stable
except that for about a month if I recall correctly it failed to report
the statuses of PRs but it was fixed by @laney in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1817344.

Regarding TEST-34 on i386, could you open an issue on GitHub? It could
probably be kept on the list as well until it's fixed.

[Bug 1828495] Re: [KVM][CLX] CPUID_7_0_EDX_ARCH_CAPABILITIES is not enabled in VM.

2019-07-01 Thread quanxian
Expected results is:
HOST and Guest should enable IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES MSR.
MDS_NO is bit 5 of ARCH_CAPABILITIES. Expose this bit to guest.

##cpuid -r

Actual result is
host works well as expected.
guest not.

Below are details.

   0x0007 0x00: eax=0x ebx=0xd19f4fb9 ecx=0x0818 edx=0x8400

## edx's 29 bit is 0

root@PLY02:~# rdmsr 0x10AH
0
## 5 bit is 0

Reason:
If you want to see the features that enumerated by MSR_IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES
in guest with Cascadelake-Server cpu model, just using “-cpu
Cascadelake-Server,+arch-capabilities” is not enough.
“-cpu Cascadelake-Server,+arch-capabilities” only let guest see
MSR_IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES, but it doesn’t contain any feature enumerated by
this msr, so the result of rdmsr 0x10a is 0.

If you want to see feature MDS_NO (bit 5) in guest, you should use “-cpu
Cascadelake-Server,+arch-capabilities,+mds_no”.

Further, we get 0x2b (bit 0,1,3,5) when rdmsr 0x10a in host, which means host
supports “rdctl-no”, “ibrs-all”, “skip-l1dfl-vmentry”, "mds-no".
If we want guest has the same ability as host, not only should we add
arch_capabilities explicitly, but also add the features list above explicitly.
Otherwise we cannot see these features in guest.

In a word, it’s all due to current Cascadelake-Server cpu model. It lacks all
above.
After new version of Cascadelake-Server added in qemu, we can get rid of all
these manually adding features annoyance.

Eduardo has sent out the qemu patch for versioned cpu model and patch 09 of
which contains new version of Cascadelake Server cpu model. It depends on when
they are merged.

[Bug 1773324] Re: [SRU] rabbitmqadmin shows %%VSN%% as version

2019-07-01 Thread Alvin Joseph Tang
Hi Bryce,

Please see this thread in rabbitmq-server group about my inquiry:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rabbitmq-users/KW0VdnXMS-U

I haven't had the time to replicate yet what he mentioned here but it
seems that rabbitmqadmin should be enabled using rabbitmq-plugin. I
think we are using the wrong file in running rabbitmqadmin as mentioned
in the thread. I'm not also familiar that much with rabbitmq-server.

[Bug 1834978] [NEW] [2.5] too many rndc reload during commissioning

2019-07-01 Thread Felipe Reyes
Public bug reported:

I've been analyzing an environment that it's issuing too many times
"rndc reload" which eventually leads to the same symptoms seen in bug
1710278 , these are the numbers when the operator attempted to
commission a bit more than 50 machines at the same time.

In regiond.log* log files when filtering for a single day (where the
test mentioned about above was executed) it was found 5032 events where
a new IP was assigned to an existing hostname, and the only 2 hostnames
that appear in this list are "ubuntu.maas" and "maas-enlist.maas".

As the DHCP assigns a 600 secs lease time, it's not rare that a single
host will renew its IP (and by consequence generate a new event) during
the commissioning stage depending on what tests the operator decided to
run.

This behavior of MAAS is inducing a high load on "named" which
ultimately gets stuck and it stops processing requests and only a
restart will take the service back.

[Environment]

MAAS 2.5.3-7533-g65952b418-0ubuntu1~18.04.1

Bug 440908 - Add support for `sticky` and `locked` attributes to default prefs.

Sticky prefs are already specifiable with `sticky_pref`, but this is a more
general attribute mechanism. The ability to specify a locked pref in the data
file is new.

The patch also adds nsIPrefService.readDefaultPrefsFromFile, to match the
existing nsIPrefService.readUserPrefsFromFile method, and converts a number of
the existing tests to use it.

If things go well with the prefs changes this might be possible in 60,

2019-07-01 Thread Mh+mozilla
The ability to lock prefs at the .js level is not *only* for enterprise
customization. Specifically, we have many "prefs" that are meant to
allow e.g. per channel (release, beta, nightly) tweaks but are not meant
for users to change. There are multiple such footguns that would be
avoided by having firefox ship those as locked.

I tend to agree here. I think this could be a useful patch (I'd use it
instead of doing autoconfig stuff) but it's kind of silly to be hung up
on naming...

I do think that "lockPref" sticks out relative to the calls for
"default_pref", and "sticky_pref". I'm a +1 for calling it
"locked_pref".

2019-07-01 Thread Mh+mozilla
The preferences code is being heavily refactored, and this needs to wait
a bit for things to settle first. That being said, I do think the ideal
timing for this would be to get it into 60. Nick, what do you think?

Bug 440908 - Allow preference files to set locked prefs.

https://reviewboard.mozilla.org/r/202672/#review208008

As per our IRC discussion, I think this is a good feature, and the patch
does a good job of implementing it. But before doing this I'd like to
officially split the prefs file format in two -- one format for default
prefs, and one for user prefs -- and then only support `locked_pref` in
default prefs files. And I want to need to think about that for a bit,
just to make sure it's a good idea.

::: modules/libpref/Preferences.cpp:238
(Diff revision 1)
> enum
>  {
>kPrefSetDefault = 1,
>kPrefForceSet = 2,
>kPrefSticky = 4,
> + kPrefLocked = 8,

The patches in bug 1394578 are going to bitrot this again. Sorry :(

::: modules/libpref/Preferences.cpp:949
(Diff revision 1)
>char* mLbEnd; // line buffer end
>char* mVb; // value buffer (ptr into mLb)
>Maybe mVtype; // pref value type
>bool mIsDefault;// true if (default) pref
>bool mIsSticky; // true if (sticky) pref
> + bool mIsLocked; // true if (locked) pref

It would be nice to replace these three bools with a single enum that
has the following alternatives: Default, StickyDefault, LockedDefault,
User. That would simplify some of the code below.

::: modules/libpref/test/unit/test_lockedprefs.js:20
(Diff revision 1)
> +}
> +
> +add_test(function notChangedFromAPI() {
> +  resetAndLoad(["data/testPrefLocked.js"]);
> +  Assert.strictEqual(ps.getBoolPref("testPref.unlocked.bool"), true);
> +  Assert.strictEqual(ps.getBoolPref("testPref.locked.bool"), false);

Keeping track of the true and false values here is tricky. If you
changed it to an int you could make the "testPref.locked.int" use 100
and 101, and "testPref.unlocked.int" use 200 and 201, or something like
that, and it would be a bit easier to read.

::: modules/libpref/test/unit/test_lockedprefs.js:24

> + Assert.ok(ps.prefHasUserValue("testPref.unlocked.bool"),

This string comment isn't quite right, because you can set a locked
pref.

::: modules/libpref/test/unit/test_lockedprefs.js:29

This comment string is a bit weird too.

[Bug 623844]

2019-07-01 Thread Mozilla-kaply
It's not the same syntax, that's my point.

pref() in a prefs.js file is NOT the same as pref() in an AutoConfig.js
file.

pref() in prefs.js sets the default pref, defaultPref() in an Autoconfig
sets a default pref.

user_pref() in prefs.js sets a user pref, pref() in an AutoConfig file
sets a user preference.

So what you're doing is making it look like autoconfig.js and prefs.js
use the same syntax, when they do not.

@glandium

I see Comment #46 speaks of a FF 60 ESR release; but effort expended to
a continuation '.js' amendments to configurations appears to conflict
with the the '.json' configuration management direction outlined for 60
as well, at:

Policies

The list of policies to support is still being defined, and is based on
previous experience with what enterprises have asked in the past. Stay
tuned for an official list of policies to be announced in the near term.

Some possibilities that are being discussed are:

Disabling access to internal configuration features like about:config,
about:addons, etc.
Adding a set of bookmarks to the toolbar and the bookmarks menu
Displaying the menu bar by default
Disabling Telemetry
Disabling features such as Pocket, Firefox Screenshots, Printing,
Copy, etc.
Whitelist and blocklist of domains to be allowed to be accessed
Pre-populated permissions around cookies, storage, popups, plugins, etc.

I wish a Statement of Roadmap were more clear -- I ran through the
tracker bug on: EnterprisePolicies and it seems pretty far along

user.js was never intended to be an enterprise level feature for
configuration of Firefox. I don't recommend using it for that.

For enterprise configuration, we have provided Autoconfig since day one,
and we are working on a better solution involving JSON, GPO and possibly
authors.

Our goal is to move away from the various hack solutions that folks have
created in order to configure Firefox.

What specific customizations are you looking to do with Firefox? You can
see the policies we are working on here:

You'd think I would have noticed that. I really don't like a document
that combines the two. pref behaves differently on both, user_pref
doesn't work in autoconfig and sticky_pref doesn't work in autoconfig.
This shouldn't reference autoconfig at all.

What is confusing? It's the same syntax. The only difference aiui, is
the execution environment, which means autoconf can do more javascript-y
things, which, as you point out, is already a source of confusion. I'd
argue that having two different names is what would be confusing.

To expound on what :glandium said:

Extensions can lock preferences with:

  Components.classes["@mozilla.org/preferences-service;1"]
.getService(Components.interfaces.nsIPrefService)
.getBranch(null)
.lockPref("name_of_pref");

Locking a preference doesn't affect the value, it just locks the
preference to the user. Obviously any extension could unlock a
preference and do what they want with that value.

Locking preferences is not for the benefit of preventing other
extensions from messing with things, it's to keep users from messing
with things.

Oddly, this document:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-
US/docs/Mozilla/Preferences/A_brief_guide_to_Mozilla_preferences

Says we already support lockPref in JS files?

Allow .js preference files to set locked prefs with lockPref()

Because this came up on the mailing list, I'll try to be explicit about
the decision here. I don't think we should allow extensions to lock
preferences, and we don't even have a clear description (other than this
code) of what it means to "lock" a preference: whether changes to the
default value are still allowed, or the user value, etc.

The code is the incidental part of this; it's the basic problem and
solution space that's totally unclear.

[Bug 623844]

2019-07-01 Thread Z-nathan-1
:(

Ideally, I'd like to favor this patch over the one I proposed at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=976334 - since it has been
tried and tested for so long...and that just adds another use case for
this: ease of locking preferences for android distributions (which
aren't as straightforward when it comes to specifying the autoconfig
file in the install directory)

Is it just a matter of having someone sign off on it, or were there
outstanding concerns outside of the syntax? It seemed like it kind of
just got dropped due to time constraints 2+ years ago, but that there
now are actually some compelling use cases for it.

Can't the fact that it's been needed and used by Debian for so long be
an indication of the stability and/or utility of the patch? just an
appeal to *someone* to perhaps move this along...

Aside from that, :glandium - how often does this patch "break"...that
is, how many times have you had to rework it because of changes in the
upstream code? I ask because I actually would consider applying this
patch and using it in my own distribution - even if it never lands.

[Bug 1833281] Re: System freeze when memory is put on SWAP in Linux >4.10.x

2019-07-01 Thread Luca Mastromatteo
As insane as it seems... Reverting back to EXT4 from BTRFS fixed the
problem...

So for me, it is an issue when BTRFS is used as root partition.

I wasn't even using swap files

[Bug 1834951] Re: After logging in bluetooth is off and cannot be turned on

2019-07-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1834951/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1825722] Re: Anki fails to start because QWebEngineView is not defined (missing import)

2019-07-01 Thread Thomas Ward
SRU template applied.

** Changed in: anki (Ubuntu Eoan)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Due to changes in PyQt (according to Arch), the Anki application fails
+ to run because library imports have been altered in a way that causes
+ the application to not execute and start under any circumstances.
+
+ This makes the application as is currently unusable.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ (1) Install Ubuntu Disco or Ubuntu Eoan.
+
+ (2) Install anki from repositories as-is (2.1.8+dfsg-1)
+
+ (3) Attempt to run `anki` on command line, you get the traceback stated
+ in the original description.
+
+ (4) Use the PPA or the version in the repos/proposed.
+
+ (5) Anki properly runs without error and starts up as expected.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ From a code perspective, the only thing we do is we pull in all the
+ libraries and classes from PyQt5.QtWebEngineWidgets. In the long term
+ this could cause breakages if PyQt changes again.
+
+ However, in the intervening *short term*, this change does not introduce
+ any major code or functional changes other than to make the various
+ classes available for use, and the regression risk from this change is
+ minimal.
+
+
+ [Additional Information]
+
+ This was tested in a Disco and an Eoan VM running inside VMware. The
+ test cases were both able to be tested without issue there, and are as
+ written.
+
+ There is a PPA with these changes available, linked in the comments.
+
+

[Bug 1825722] Re: Anki fails to start because QWebEngineView is not defined (missing import)

2019-07-01 Thread Thomas Ward
I did my testing locally in an Eoan and a Disco VM, and this fix does
indeed work.

Further, I dug into the imports, we would need to import a long string
of plugin bits to import each bit individually, so since we're past 3 or
4 imports at that point it makes sense and is easier to just import * to
import the entire set of QtWeb bits that the program is going to use.

I've taken the patch and adjusted it to be compliant with SRU
requirements and Packaging requirements. I will upload this to Eoan and
prep the SRU as well.

[Bug 1834798] Re: 'Help' icon and label not suitable for xubuntu-default-settings

2019-07-01 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips
This issue isnt limited to just the xubuntu-default-settings, but is
happening with other packages. update-manager is pulling details from
the last .desktop file in the package and show it as though that is a
correct label.
