I found that "by accident" while verifying another fix for numad.
It seems (at least on a power 9 box) that if you have a huge kvm guest running
and restart numad that it crashes.
The crash seems related to some re-init of a static structure:

It seems that once this triggers the system is in an overall bad state.
I have seen

b) defunct processes even unrelated ones like

Tools such as vpnc try to flush routes when run inside network
namespaces by writing 1 into /proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/flush. This

To get the full picture, have you filed (or are they not needed for some

It seems on the former deployment I hit some memory bug which broke and
stalled quite some allocations. While I haven't found what was causing
that (would be an interesting bug report) the renewed systems seems
good.
And in that environment I was able to verify the fix just as expected.
