[Bug 1836500] Re: open-vm-tools
Hi Lars, the latest would be [1] 10.3.10 as verified to be ok by VMWare. It was published in mid June, if you didn't do updates before it is possible that this might be the first time you use the new version. Upgrading the tools in a guest of my own works fine, so we need to find what exactly is happening in your case. I might not the best expert in debugging these issues, so I subscribed Oliver to the bug who is repsonsible for open-vm-tools upstream. He might have an idea what to look for in addition. [Bug 1836500] Re: open-vm-tools
Quote: "4) When starting the VM it comes as far as starting the graphical interface just befor showing the login. It just hangs from there, can only be turned off." So how could we get some state info from there. I assume you have no means whatsoever to e.g. get to the main console via keyboard. Could you check the following: - is the guest even running, so in monitoring is it shown busy or idling? - is the guest stuck like in paused mode or doe vmware think it works correctly? - can you setup (pre update) an ssh login and then when the crash happened maybe "behind the stuck UI" log in via ssh to gather logs? - can you use a non-UI guest that would boot into only the console anyway, if on that guest the update is present does it get stuck as well? ** Changed in: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1836500 Title: open-vm-tools To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/1836500/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Version: 2.4.97-1ubuntu1~18.04.12019-07-03 15:07:54 UTC libdrm (2.4.97-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) bionic; urgency=medium * Backport to bionic for 18.04.3 HWE stack update. (LP: #1824111) -- Timo Aaltonen Wed, 10 Apr 2019 13:54:06 +0300 Kodi gives this error: #3 0x7f47676c60aa in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_dri.so #4 0x7f47676c5dd7 in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_dri.so Repeated several times #3 0x7f475ce2c5a6 in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libLLVM-8.so.1 #4 0x7f475ce2c425 in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libLLVM-8.so.1 Team-Kodi stated these errors are in relation to 'Not supported GPU drivers', when Kodi can't find these files. I've found the cause, and a temporary solution: This bug was caused after an update for the latest version of libdrm- amdgpu1 2.4.97-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 So I grabbed the previous version from https://mirror.transip.net/ubuntu/ubuntu/pool/main/libd/libdrm/ installed libdrm-amdgpu1_2.4.95-1~18.04.1_amd64.deb and now Kodi returns. I created a bug report, the problem affects multiple users. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kodi/+bug/1836828 We have a PointRelease coming soon, would we have time to fix this package? Thank you for your assistance. ** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1837170 Title: Kodi package crash after the update of libdrm-amdgpu1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/1837170/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1837157] Re: Fresh install on Acer Aspire XC-605 fails continously
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. This package failure looks like it was caused by a corrupted file system, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these :- Jul 18 22:18:34 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 393.659846] SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt Jul 18 22:18:34 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 393.659848] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x4c73e47f Jul 18 22:18:34 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 393.660715] SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt Jul 18 22:18:34 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 393.660717] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x4c73e47f Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a faulty device (or bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'new'. So you'd need to unpack that (it's multiple cpio archives concatenated together, although for testing this we can only care about the last one), overwrite the casper stuff in there and pack it up again. Something like: mkdir /tmp/initrd cd /tmp/initrd (cpio -t; cpio -t; lz4cat | cpio -i ) < /mnt/casper/initrd cp /path/to/new/casper scripts/casper # etc find . | LC_ALL=C sort | cpio -R 0:0 -o -H newc | gzip > ../initrd.new cp ../initrd.new /mnt/casper/initrd (this is all extremely obscure, yes) - I added 'persistent' to the kernel options in grub.cfg then tried to boot > the media on a UEFI system > > The end result was still a boot failure with the message "mount: > mounting /cow on /root failed: Invalid argument", and I'm pretty > confident the same will hold true (without having to go through the > whole squashfs update) with the next Live ISOs that is generated on > http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/, so I don't believe the > issue has been properly fixed... > All the above said, I didn't do anything to fix the problem you've hit here. I don't understand why find_cow_device is written the way that it is. I guess it must pre-date us having udev in the initrd because you can check for a filesystem with the right label now by looking in /dev/disk/by-label now. And when looking at vfat partitions that might or might not have a casper-rw file, if it finds that the partition is mounted it could check for the existence of the backing file _before_ it does mount games that it then might have to undo. I'll see if I can rewrite it :) Cheers, mwh -- > You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu > Installer Team, which is subscribed to casper in Ubuntu. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489855 > > Title: > Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw > partitions > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1489855/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489855 Title: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1489855/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sweet mother of the Muses, I just downgraded the mesa-va-drivers package to 18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1 (since that’s the one from the non-updates Bionic repository) and Kodi works again! [Bug 1836979] Re: Kodi crashes with “nouveau_vp3_video_buffer_create: Assertion `templat->interlaced' failed”
There was an update to Mesa over in the Ubuntu-X-Swat PPA today (by which I mean the “Updates” one), from 19.0.2-1ubuntu1.1~18.04.1 to 19.0.8-0ubuntu0~18.04.1. …Sadly, as I discovered—after installing the updates, then restarting and trying Kodi again—this bug is still present and still works exactly the same. (While I’m here, does anyone know how I would file a bug with the nvidia-340 package? I mean, I don’t know how much we can do about that driver, given its proprietary nature, but I want to try, at least. Joachim, thanks for bringing this to my attention. [Bug 1833610] Re: minimum root partition size recommendation is too small
** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: High => Medium ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Description changed: I tested installing Eoan with an iso dated 20190606 and in the advanced - partitioning setup the minimum recommended partition root size (5.6 GB I - believe). After the installation completed and I rebooted I was + partitioning setup the minimum recommended / partition root size (5.6 GB + I believe). After the installation completed and I rebooted I was immediately presented with a dialog indicating there was a lack of free space. There was only 74M of free space and it seems likely that updates of debs and snaps will fail, let alone trying to install anything extra.
