[Bug 1836959] Re: media/opencl package updates for 19.10

2019-08-09 Thread Dmitry Rogozhkin
People noticed that intel-opencl is broken and can not be installed on
19.10, see bug report https://github.com/intel/compute-
runtime/issues/199. This looks to be due to missed gmmlib dependency
since its major version went up from 5 (on 19.04) to 9 (after recent
update).

[Bug 1838590] Re: Update thermald to 1.9 release

2019-08-09 Thread Anthony Wong
Re-uploaded to ppa:anthonywong/dptfxtract.
dptfxtract-helper uses the static build of dptfxtract as that will make
backport to older ubuntu releases a bit easier, as the dynamic linked version
may not work well in all environments.

[Bug 1838370] Re: slapd segfault on filter parse error

2019-08-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --

- Users willing to use the slapd rwm overlay will face a slapd segmentation
fault
- when trying to rewrite some rules. Backporting this fix will allow users using
- stable releases to take advantage of this feature without crashing slapd. This
- issue was fixed by upstream not freeing the rwm overlay filter memory without

+ segmentation fault when trying to rewrite some rules. Backporting this
+ fix will allow users using stable releases to take advantage of this
+ feature without crashing slapd. This issue was fixed by upstream not
+ freeing the rwm overlay filter memory without prior checking.

  Test Case
  -

- In this test case, the rwm overlay will be used and a rule will be created to
- deny any search request for uid=root, then the 'ldapsearch' will be invoked to
- trigger the failure. It is important to mention that the 'ldapsearch' command
- should fail regardless the presence of the bug in the package, the target here
- is the slapd crash. To reproduce this bug one can follow the procedure below
in
- Ubuntu xenial, bionic or disco:

+ disco:

  $ sudo apt-get update
  $ sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils -y

Reconfigure the slapd package. When asked about a domain, use "example.com".
Choose a password you want (or just leave it blank), and accept defaults for
  everything else:

  $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd

Create a file called 'add-rwm.ldif' with the following content:

  $ cat add-rwm.ldif
  dn: cn=module{0},cn=config
  changetype: modify
  add: olcModuleLoad
  olcModuleLoad: rwm

  dn: olcOverlay=rwm,olcDatabase={1}mdb,cn=config

  olcRwmRewrite: {0} rwm-rewriteEngine "on"
  olcRwmRewrite: {1} rwm-rewriteContext "searchFilter"
  olcRwmRewrite: {2} rwm-rewriteRule "(.*)(uid=root)(.*)" "$1$2$3" "#"

-
With this file in place, run:

  $ sudo ldapadd -Q -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f add-rwm.ldif

  Now, to trigger the crash:

  $ ldapsearch -x -h localhost -b dc=example,dc=com -LLL uid=root
Server is unwilling to perform (53)
  Additional information: searchFilter/searchFilterAttrDN massage error

-
slapd process will die, and /var/crash will have a crash file for slapd. You
can run the following command to confirm the error:

  $ cat /var/log/syslog | grep filter_free
  Aug 9 19:51:05 popular-gorilla slapd[1479]: filter_free: unknown filter
type=28530

-
  Regression Potential

- Since the fix is a patch provided by upstream (reviewed by maintainers and us)
- simple mistakes like typos are not expected. The patch impacts only the rwm
- module which is not loaded by default. So any regression would affect only the
- users that make use of this overlay. If an user is not using rwm overlay and
is
- facing any issue, it should be related to other problems related to LDAP
- directory services.

[Bug 1839598] Re: tcp_wrappers does not whitelisting of domains, vs IPs

2019-08-09 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Federico,

Wietse is correct. You will not get security benefits from your proposed
changes.

Public key authentication, combined with a 2FA mechanism such as TOTP
for interactive users, is the current best practice.

IP filtering is a useful tool; you can already have good benefits from
allowing the /16 or /24 or whatever address ranges your contractors are
expected to be using. That will drastically reduce the number of
compromised hosts on the internet that can contact your server and
perform password brute-force authentication attempts.

The single best security improvement you can make is disable password
authentication in openssh-server and require authorized_keys to log in.

We will not make drastic changes to the design and implementation of
tcp-wrappers.

Thanks for your interest in making Ubuntu more secure

[Bug 1804062] Re: test_hacking fails for python 3.6.7 and newer

commit dc2963d2a0002d4ddacf50b1f80c470d5de7ec61
Author: Stephen Finucane
Date: Wed Jun 12 15:10:59 2019 +0100

Fix double word hacking test

At present, 'pycodestyle' feeds the following string into the 'tokenizer'
library:

["'This is the the best comment'"]

(note the added quotes because this isn't valid Python otherwise)

On previous versions of Python, this tokenizer would parse the string like
so:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'")
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

However, with the fix [1] backported to recent versions of Python, this now
resolves to:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'")
  (4, '', (1, 30), (1, 31), '')
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 4 = 'NEWLINE', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

Typically, 'pycodestyle' will run physical line checks on each line as it
parses the token:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2036

For the former case above, the line doesn't include a newline which
means we never parse a 'NEWLINE' token with a logical line (the fifth
element of the token tuple) corresponding to our full line. This means
we don't here but that wasn't an issue previously since there's a
fallthrough case that handled tokens remaining at the end of the parse:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2114-L2116

Unfortunately, because we now have an additional newline character to
parse, one that's on a separate line to our test string no less, we run
logical checks on it:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2105-L2107

This is an issue since the logical check wipes stored tokens meaning
we've nothing to check when we get to the fallthrough case:

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2012

This fixes changes things so that a newline is included (and also adds
quotes so it's valid Python, but that's mostly unrelated). This means we
end up with the following instead:

["'This is the the best comment'\n"]

On both Python without the bugfix and with it, this parses as:

(3, "'This is the the best comment'", (1, 0), (1, 30), "'This is the the
best comment'\n")
  (4, '\n', (1, 30), (1, 31), "'This is the the best comment'\n")
  (0, '', (2, 0), (2, 0), '')

where (3 = 'STRING', 4 = 'NEWLINE', 0 = 'ENDMARKER')

Which triggers things in 'pycodestyle' correctly.

  https://github.com/PyCQA/pycodestyle/blob/2.5.0/pycodestyle.py#L2044-L2046

This isn't _really_ a fix since there's clearly still a bug in either
'pycodestyle' or Python (I think the latter, since it's adding a newline
to a file that explicitly doesn't have one), but the chances of us
hitting this bug in practice are rather low - you'd need to make a
mistake on the very last line of a file without a newline at the end
which is something Vim, for example, won't even let you do without
setting special flags - and therefore it can be reasonably ignored.

[Bug 1817244] Re: Game needs gstreamer1.0-plugins-good

2019-08-09 Thread jre
Hi Dave,

I just wanted to fix this, when I noticed that you explicitly mentioned
"i386". A default Gnome installation on amd64 installs only the amd64
plugins, not the i386 ones. So I only have gstreamer1.0-plugins-
good:amd64 installed, but not gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386.

Still, the game has working music here.

I assume you're also on amd64 (please verify with "dpkg --print-architecture").

Does it also work, if you only install gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:amd64,
but uninstall the i386 version?

I'd like to avoid installing the plugins for both architectures if this
is not needed.

[Bug 1839688] [NEW] local client 1.8.2-1ubuntu0.1 keeps disappearing files

2019-08-09 Thread Dorian Taylor
Public bug reported:

Unfortunately this is not the best bug report I've written, but given
the circumstances it's the best I can do:

• OpenAFS client is on the same machine as the server
• During normal operation, files and directories disappear
• Show up in `ls -l` eg `?? ? ???? user`
• Assume this is a client problem because other clients on the network can see
the files
• Stopping and restarting client and server do not restore the files
• `bos salvage` and/or `fs setca -1` by the administrator account *sometimes*
seem to fix the problem but other times do not
• This is a random, intermittent problem so I do not know of a reliable way to
replicate.

Once again, this is 1.8.2-1ubuntu0.1 on amd64, kernel 5.0.0-21-generic

[Bug 1839687] [NEW] GDM displays black screen for a few seconds after resuming from suspend while using Nvidia proprietary drivers

2019-08-09 Thread Alexandre Forte
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen: GDM quickly appears after resuming
What happened instead: A black screen appears and GDM is slow to show up

After I suspend my laptop with Ubuntu 18.04.3 by closing it, GDM

computer. When the screen is black, only the cursor is visible. I'm

happened in version 390. If I use the Nvidia panel to switch to Intel

[Bug 1519052] Re: wine fails to install vroot

2019-08-09 Thread jre
Installing iRoot_1.8.8.20465_cid1005_7337ba1e.exe from
vrootdownload.info/download/ works here.

$ wine --version
wine-4.7 (Debian 4.7-1)

If it still fails for you, please try to install it from a terminal
with:

wine iRoot_1.8.8.20465_cid1005_7337ba1e.exe

and post the output to this bug (and reopen it).

In your case there was probably some error and wine quit, but you didn't
notice that because you started it graphically.

[Bug 673342] Re: [wishlist] Support displaying inline tiff images (to support mails fom Mac Mail)

2019-08-09 Thread Howard Schlossberg
This entire thread seems to discuss the pros of other web graphic
formats. Who cares -- this is a mail app, not a web browser?!? If Macs
default to sending screenshots as TIFFs, then I need a mail app that can
display TIFFs, because like it or not there are a lot of people who use
Macs and who send emails to Windows users like me. This thread's been
going for 17 years and my Thunderbird STILL doesn't display a TIFF.
When I responded to the sender that I couldn't see their screenshot, my
reply actually rendered the TIFF and they think I'm an idiot because I
use a mail app that doesn't work "properly".

[Bug 1836959] Re: media/opencl package updates for 19.10

2019-08-09 Thread Dmitry Rogozhkin
Since driver dlopen libs instead of linking against them, need to be
careful in setting up dependencies. for IGC and igdfcl this is likely
correct, but gmmlib could change major version and dependency might need
to be bumped up.

Re: [Bug 1839253] Re: Excessive screen tearing and flickering

2019-08-09 Thread Ethan Walker
I've tried both switching to Ubuntu on wayland and I installed kernel
5.3-rc3 and there hasn't been any change.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing in the terminal window when I
run dmesg -w but here is a screenshot of part of the output. Nothing gets
added to the output when the flickering happens if that is what you wanted
me to look at.

I mean the current packaging has Depends for libigdgmm5, for instance.
But that's of course wrong, since the tooling should detect what libs
the driver needs..

No, dependencies are not that wrong. Intel opencl driver dlopen() these
libraries:
# strings /usr/lib64/intel-opencl/libigdrcl.so | grep \\.so
libigdgmm.so.5
libigc.so.1
libigdfcl.so.1

[Bug 1839682] [NEW] ibus-avro not shown in Ubuntu Software

2019-08-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

ibus-avro, an IBus plugin for inputting Bangla, is a brand new package
in Ubuntu eoan. It's not shown in Ubuntu Software, though, so I dived
into the gnome-software source to see if I could figure out why, and
found src/gs-folders.c. The gs_folders_convert() function in that file
includes some hard coded lists including "sundry_apps". sundry_apps
holds the names of some .desktop files, including a few ibus-
setup-*.desktop files.

As a test I built gnome-software with "ibus-setup-ibus-avro.desktop"
added to sundry_apps. That made a difference - suddenly Ubuntu Software
found ibus-avro.

The conclusion from my investigation is that IBus input methods are
shown in Ubuntu Software if all three of these criteria are met:

1. The package has an AppStream metadata file.

2. The package has an ibus-setup-[engine_name].desktop file in
   /usr/share/applications.

3. The .desktop file is included in the "sundry_apps" list in
   src/gs-folders.c.

I don't know if this is how it's supposed to work, but if it is, the
patch in the linked merge proposal ought to be a proper fix (and should
also be upstreamed).

shows that it shouldn't directly depend on any other libs, like it does

[Bug 1838370] Re: slapd segfault on filter parse error

2019-08-09 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
** Description changed:

+ Impact
+ --
+
+ Users willing to use the slapd rwm overlay will face a slapd segmentation
fault
+ when trying to rewrite some rules. Backporting this fix will allow users using
+ stable releases to take advantage of this feature without crashing slapd. This
+ issue was fixed by upstream not freeing the rwm overlay filter memory without
+ prior checking.
+
+ Test Case
+ -
+
+ In this test case, the rwm overlay will be used and a rule will be created to
+ deny any search request for uid=root, then the 'ldapsearch' will be invoked to
+ trigger the failure. It is important to mention that the 'ldapsearch' command
+ should fail regardless the presence of the bug in the package, the target here
+ is the slapd crash. To reproduce this bug one can follow the procedure below
in
+ Ubuntu xenial, bionic or disco:
+
+ $ sudo apt-get update
+ $ sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils -y
+
+ Reconfigure the slapd package. When asked about a domain, use "example.com".
+ Choose a password you want (or just leave it blank), and accept defaults for
+ everything else:
+
+ $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd
+
+ Create a file called 'add-rwm.ldif' with the following content:
+
+ $ cat add-rwm.ldif
+ dn: cn=module{0},cn=config
+ changetype: modify
+ add: olcModuleLoad
+ olcModuleLoad: rwm
+
+ dn: olcOverlay=rwm,olcDatabase={1}mdb,cn=config
+ changetype: add
+ objectClass: olcOverlayConfig
+ objectClass: olcRwmConfig
+ olcOverlay: rwm
+ olcRwmRewrite: {0} rwm-rewriteEngine "on"
+ olcRwmRewrite: {1} rwm-rewriteContext "searchFilter"
+ olcRwmRewrite: {2} rwm-rewriteRule "(.*)(uid=root)(.*)" "$1$2$3" "#"
+
+
+ With this file in place, run:
+
+ $ sudo ldapadd -Q -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f add-rwm.ldif
+
+ Now, to trigger the crash:
+
+ $ ldapsearch -x -h localhost -b dc=example,dc=com -LLL uid=root
+ Server is unwilling to perform (53)
+ Additional information: searchFilter/searchFilterAttrDN massage error
+
+
+ slapd process will die, and /var/crash will have a crash file for slapd. You
+ can run the following command to confirm the error:
+
+ $ cat /var/log/syslog | grep filter_free
+ Aug 9 19:51:05 popular-gorilla slapd[1479]: filter_free: unknown filter
type=28530
+
+
+ Regression Potential
+
+
+ Since the fix is a patch provided by upstream (reviewed by maintainers and us)
+ simple mistakes like typos are not expected. The patch impacts only the rwm
+ module which is not loaded by default. So any regression would affect only the
+ users that make use of this overlay. If an user is not using rwm overlay and
is
+ facing any issue, it should be related to other problems related to LDAP
+ directory services.
+
