After some testing, aplay -D hw:2,2 samplename works but there seems to
be no way to set that in gnome or for other applications?

So, in short, even though Gnome panel allows setting the device, it does
not allow handling correct /output/ when there are multiple choices?
E.g. only optical connected to receiver instead of analog.

Giving a process cap_sys_admin is effectively giving it root, which is

Do you mean is it the same bug what I described in comment #10? My
comment #11 is more of a easy workaround to get the dark menus (you can
easily switch between dark and light with this, as well).
Regarding comment #10, I haven't confirmed the problem with the dark
user shell themes is a
