[Bug 1765565] Re: xfpanel-switch is failing to save panel settings

2019-09-25 Thread C. Jeffery Small
I'm on Xubuntu 19.04, fully patched with xfpanel-switch version
1.0.7-ubuntu2 and I'm having the same or similar problem as noted by the
original reporter. When I start xfpanel-switch manually, here are the
errors reported upon startup, when the first save configuration is
pressed, and finally when Save Configuration is selected from the pop-up
menu. This may have existed in 18.10 (I don't know) but I upgraded to
19.04 recently. The last saved config is labeled Xubuntu Disco from
08-21-19. I cannot remember if I made this manually or if it was done
automatically as part of the upgrade.

I have not deleted panels, but I have struggled with Xfce4 on my dual-headed
system since support for independent parallel desktops running (non-Xinerama
mode) on each screen in Xubuntu 18.10 was broken. This may be due to moving to
gtk3, but it is a serious degradation of service since xfdesktop and
xfce4-panel no longer honor the display option. (Note: xfwm4 still works on
two independent displays!) I mention this first and foremost because I want to
see this fixed, and second because there were two different panels defined on
this system at one point -- one for each display -- and that may have some
bearing on what may be causing this problem.

If you need further config info from this system, please let be know.
I'm not currently sure where to look for the panel definitions and don't
want to much up my current working panel.

[Bug 1845290] Re: ACPI issue with RHEL4 guest VM's

2019-09-25 Thread Michael Tinsay
The host where the problem doesn't happen runs Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel
4.15.0-58-generic and qemu-kvm 1:2.5+dfsg-5ubuntu10.41

My work desktop is running on Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel 5.0.0-25-generic
and qemu-kvm 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.17

The Oracle Bare Metal host is running Ubuntu 18.04 (minimal install)
with kernel 4.15.0-1025-oracle and qemu-kvm 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.18

The RHEL4 guest runs kernel 2.6.9-67.ELsmp

I tested two additional VMs, this time they are on Ubuntu 8.04 with
kernel 2.6.24-32. One exhibits a similar issue, but the other one
doesn't.

VMs running more recent Ubuntu releases and even Windows 7 guests do not
exhibit this problem. So it is likely because of the old kernel version
being incompatible with the newer ACPI tables qemu provides. :(

Unfortunately, I cannot migrate the apps running in these VMs to a more
recent RHEL release. :(

Is there a way to provide these guests with old kernel the older SDT's?

[Bug 1844894] Re: docker doesn’t start in bionic (Unit docker.service is masked), if previously installed+removed in xenial

2019-09-25 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Thanks for the report, and congratulations on figuring out what was
going on! I can see why the behaviour is as described on a very shallow
level: xenial postrm masks both the service and socket units but the
bionic postinst just unmasks the socket. Deeper than that, I really
don't know. The way the service file is installed is different on
xenial, it's installed via the .install file and maybe that makes
dh_systemd do something different. Perhaps the pragmatic fix is to just
explicitly insert "deb-systemd-helper unmask docker.service >/dev/null
|| true" into the postinst in bionic+?

[Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild haproxy with openssl 1.1.1 will change features (bionic)

2019-09-25 Thread Robie Basak
The SRU team discussed this last week and we agreed that enabling TLS
1.3 is appropriate.

> [Test Case]

> * run "haproxy -vv" and check the reported TLS versions to include 1.3

I think we should additionally check during SRU verification that TLS
functionality is working correctly, both with an existing protocol and
also with 1.3, as we know we're perturbing it.

[Bug 1845405] [NEW] Xenial update: 4.4.194 upstream stable release

2019-09-25 Thread Connor Kuehl
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   4.4.194 upstream stable release

[Bug 1842037] Re: Oops when Kerberos credentials are invalid

2019-09-25 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Frank,

Just checking in to see how the test kernel is going. Does it fix your
problem of the kernel crashing when users have invalid kerberos
credentials?

Did you try it on the original server which crashes frequently? Has it
made things more stable?

Did you have an opportunity to try the reproducer I linked you in my
previous message?

Let me know how things are going, when you have had a chance to test the
kernel.

Thanks,
Matthew

Considering the bug is particularly bad, it probably makes sense.

Package in the ppa is enough for being sponsored (once fixed the changelog)
if there's rush.

[Bug 159356] Re: When DMA is disabled system freeze on high memory usage

2019-09-25 Thread constantoverride
the initial patch I've attached/tried (in #89) was crap, but now I'm
successfully using this one le9h.patch (attached)

also here:
https://gist.github.com/howaboutsynergy/04fd9be927835b055ac15b8b64658e85

there are similar patches from years ago made by some devs, if you
follow those urls (mentioned in patch) you can see them

Either way, this will prevent Active(file) to get lower than the set
value, more or less. As a workaround is good enough for me. (far better
than my initial attempt)

** Patch added: "keep Active(file) above certain threshold to avoid constant
disk reading when memory pressure"

[Bug 1777017] Re: snap install lxd doesn't work within a container

2019-09-25 Thread Ian Johnson
This at least fails more nicely with the lxd snap:
https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/djwrN5nxjT/

I see the following denial in the journal:

Sep 25 18:17:24 kernel: audit: type=1400 audit(1569453444.560:27044):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mount" info="failed flags match" error=-13
profile="lxd-holy-moray_"
name="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/proc/" pid=30868 comm="lxd"
fstype="proc" srcname="proc" flags="rw, nosuid, nodev, noexec"

It's unclear to me if this use case of nesting lxd containers is meant
to be supported or not with lxd as a snap.

[Bug 1745066] Re: Snap documatation of hook changes

2019-09-25 Thread Ian Johnson
Does `snapctl set` during a hook still cause the installation of a snap
to hang for you? I cannot reproduce this behavior with snapd 2.42.

Also have you seen the new documentation for hooks at
https://snapcraft.io/docs/supported-snap-hooks ? If you would like
changes made to that documentation, you can suggest edits on the forum
for that page (see the bottom of the page for a link).

Since docs are editable via the forum, that's the place to discuss
issues with documentation nowadays. As such I'll close this, but if you
can still reproduce the issue around installing a snap with `snapctl
set` in the install hook then please comment with more details.

[Bug 1745062] Re: snap documentation for 'try' needs more details

2019-09-25 Thread Ian Johnson
Actually, the content for snap try is bind-mounted (or at least it is
now, I'm not sure if that was the case when this was first reported or
not I think it has always been that way but I'm not sure).

You should still be able to edit files in the prime (or whatever dir is
bind-mounted from `snap try `) and it should show up in the /snap
//current directory due to the bind-mount.

We could adjust the doc help to explain that it is bind-mounted, would
that be helpful?

Also this is from an old snapd so unless it's reproducible with a newer

The `snap interfaces` command is deprecated, and instead the `snap

auto-complete in this case. See:

```
$ GO_FLAGS_COMPLETION=1 snap connections go
[Bug 1667882] Re: snapd taking enormous amount of time to boot
2019-09-25 Thread Ian Johnson
Multiple speedups for snapd seeding have been implemented since this was
first filed, can you confirm that you still see slow snapd seeding on
boot without any snaps installed on the system?
Also @mpathy, the issue surrounding gnome-calculator being slow to start is a
separate issue that has also been worked on and should be much faster (though
the first start of the snap will be a bit slow to cache fonts and things). Do
you still see a significant slowdown when using the snap? If so please comment
on the already filed bug to gnome-calculator here:
[Bug 1670060] Re: Not obvious when a snap is installed with --classic
2019-09-25 Thread Ian Johnson
This is now handled properly, in the case where the snap is classic it
is shown as such, and in the case where the snap is not classic, it
cannot be installed in classic confinement. See for example a classic
snap installed:
```
$ snap info go | grep installed
installed:1.12.9   (4301) 92MB classic
```
and a strict snap that was attempted to install with --classic (note the
warning):
```
$ snap install hello-world --classic
Warning: flag --classic ignored for strictly confined snap hello-world

hello-world 6.4 from Canonical✓ installed
$ snap info hello-world | grep installed
installed:   6.4(29) 20kB -

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1611256] Re: X to Y upgrade fails with gconf2 depends on python3:any; however: Package python3 is not configured yet.

2019-09-25 Thread Brian Murray
I tested an upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 18.04 today with the
packages gconf2, gparted, preload among others installed. The upgrade
completed successfully and there were no issues with triggers looping. I
believe this is the result of a new version of dpkg which is available
in Ubuntu 16.04.

dpkg (1.18.4ubuntu1.6) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Cherry-pick upstream fixes for trigger loops (LP: #1828639)
- dpkg: Negate tortoise_not_in_hare() function name and return value
- dpkg: Initialize trigcyclenode's next member once
- dpkg: Factor trigproc_new_cyclenode() out from check_trigger_cycle()
- dpkg: Mark the package we are giving up on a trigger cycle as istobe
normal
- dpkg: Switch dependtry from an int to an enum
- dpkg: Reset progress_bytrigproc once we have injected into the current
iteration
- dpkg: Split trigger processing types into required, try-queued and
try-deferred
- dpkg: Convert one trigger processing required type into the new try-queued
- dpkg: Move trigproc cycle reset inside try-deferred conditional
- dpkg: Introduce a new dependency try level for trigger processing
- dpkg: Introduce a new dependency try level for trigger cycle checks
