[Bug 1856279] [NEW] demote vlan to universe in 20.04

2019-12-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

As it came up int he discussion at:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-server/2019-December/008039.html

vlan was only used in the context of ifupdown which is demoted to universe.
Therefore vlan won't be needed in main.

It will be unseeded soon via:
https://code.launchpad.net/~paelzer/ubuntu-seeds/+git/ubuntu/+merge/376746

In addition there is only one dependency left
$ reverse-depends -r focal vlan
Reverse-Depends
===
* nova-compute-libvirt
* nova-network  <-- already got dropped in
nova-21.0.0~b1~git2019120415.45fb747c98

Therefore @nova maintainers - please drop the dependency to the "vlan"
package which is explicitly listed in d/control at the moment. The code
seems to already use `ip link` so it might be just dropping the
dependency, but I leave that to the openstack Team.

[Bug 681423] Re: [MIR] libssh2

2019-12-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
After the discussion with the Team the consensus was for nmap to demote it from
main.
It isn't needed on install media nor is is a core part of any solution - so
there is no hard reason to be in main.
The tool can continued to be used as-is from the universe repo.

[Bug 1856059] Re: jellyfish: please remove arm64, ppc64el binaries

[Bug 1855546] Re: Desktop freezes a while than logs out

2019-12-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1856270] [NEW] links not responding to any mouse clicks

2019-12-12 Thread Tomofumi
Public bug reported:

On this specific page:
https://www.paypal.com/hk/smarthelp/contact-us

All the links are not responding to any clicks. But it works on Windows Chrome
(auto updated to ver. 79). I've tried to use "reset settings" in
chrome://settings/reset to disable all extensions, but still the same.
And enable logging with log-level and enable-logging shows nothing special.

I also tested on another 18.04 desktop running on physical hardware.
Results also the same. So I think it is not virtualbox problem.

Would be glad if any knowledgeable devs knows what's wrong or is it a bug.
Thanks.

[Bug 1855825] Re: When connecting to wifi with the proposed linux-oem kernel , the system hangs

2019-12-12 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Since backport-iwlwifi-dkms is not available officially in Ubuntu
Archive yet, I'm marking linux/bionic as INVALID here, but still
tracking the backport status in bug 1856024.

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ [Impact]
+ With currently in eoan-proposed kernel 5.3.0-25.27, or all other kernels with
stable patch "net/flow_dissector: add connection tracking dissection"
backported, backport-iwlwifi-dkms has not yet get synced with its data
structure layout change, and may cause system hang whenever trying to associate
with WiFi base stations.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Ubuntu Sauced fix
"backport-address-interface-change-in-linux-skbuff.h-.patch" to be backported
to Eoan.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Verified on following kernels:
+
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 4.15.0-1065-oem, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 4.15.0-1066-oem, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 4.15.0-72-generic, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 4.15.0-73-generic, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.0.0-1030-oem-osp1, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.0.0-1032-oem-osp1, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.0.0-37-generic, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.0.0-38-generic, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.3.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed
+   backport-iwlwifi, 7906, 5.3.0-24-generic, x86_64: installed
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. This patch corrects call flow as in-tree kernel source does when that
stable patch is patched.
+
+ [Other Info]
+ Proposed Eoan SRU package can be found in
https://launchpad.net/~vicamo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-1855825.

Hi, could you help attach /var/lib/dkms/backport-
iwlwifi/7906/build/make.log as well? For I cannot reproduce this. Please
also remember to remove /var/crash/backport-iwlwifi-dkms.0.crash before
retry.

[Bug 1849261] Re: Update systemd for ubuntu 18.04 with fix for interaction between OnFailure= and Restart=

2019-12-12 Thread Dan Streetman
** Description changed:

+ [impact]
+
+ services configured with both OnFailure= and Restart= directives will
+ both start the failure service(s), as well as restarting itself. The
+ documentation (and later versions) indicate that OnFailure= services
+ will only be started once the service actually does stop (due to
+ failure) once its restart limit has been exceeded.
+
+ [test case]
+
+ create service files as:
+
+ ubuntu@lp1849261-b:/etc/systemd/system$ cat test.service
+ [Unit]
+ OnFailure=failure.service

+

+ [Service]
+ ExecStart=/bin/true
+

+
+ ubuntu@lp1849261-b:/etc/systemd/system$ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
+ ubuntu@lp1849261-b:/etc/systemd/system$ sudo systemctl start test
+
+ wait for a while for the test service to exit - at least 10 seconds, as

[Bug 1856251] Re: Going from apps overview screen to fullscreen'd app causes flash

2019-12-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't seem to reproduce the problem just yet (using 20.04 with Intel
graphics).

My first two ideas are:
 * Maybe this is related to Terminal's broken transparency (bug 561370)
 * Maybe it's Nvidia-specific.

That log message "Not using GLX TFP" is from the mutter compositor code.
It means the driver has decided to not use GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
which may or may not be related to this bug.

[Bug 1854072] Re: tomcat-native needs recompile to use TLSv1.3 from openssl 1.1

2019-12-12 Thread Dan Streetman
I asked tdaitx (java expert) for a quick review:

 tdaitx you're the java guy, right? can you review this upload to
make sure i got the facts right? it's a simple no-change rebuild, but i don't
have experience with tomcat or static JNI libs so would be good to confirm the
explanation of why the rebuild is needed is correct
 by 'this upload' i meant tomcat-native ^
 from lp #1854072
 Launchpad bug 1854072 in tomcat-native (Ubuntu Bionic) "tomcat-native
needs recompile to use TLSv1.3 from openssl 1.1" [Medium,In progress]
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1854072

 ddstreet: yeah, given the description I supposed it could fix it,
whish there was a better way to reproduce it though, I generated the certs,
added the commands to tomcat's server.xml (in /etc) but it starts just fine and
even lists openssl 1.1.1 (I wonder if it is using the dynamic lib for any
reason)
 I did a quick look at the libtcnative-1.a and rebuild it on bionic,
but haven't seem anything different in symbols and such
 tdaitx thanks!

** Description changed:

  [impact]

  the libtcnative-1 package contains both a dynamic libtcnative-1.so lib,
  as well as a static libtcnative-1.a lib. Normal java applications will
  use the dynamic library, and it is correctly linked to the system's
  installed libssl library. However, the static library pulls the build-
  time libssl library in, and so anything using the static libtcnative-1.a
  library will use the build-time libssl version, instead of the currently
  installed libssl library version.

  This matters on Bionic since openssl was upgraded from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1;
  the latest libtcnative-1 build was done with the 1.1.0 version of
  libssl, so it does not include TLSv1.3 support, since it has ssl 1.1.0
  built-in.

  Java typically/historically only loads native libraries dynamically, but JEP
178 added JVM support for using static libraries:
  https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/178

  This is what APR does, and tomcat uses APR, so it pulls in the static
  tcnative-1 library. This causes the current tomcat9 in Bionic to lack
  support for TLSv1.3.

  [test case]

  A normal java program can't be used to reproduce/verify this bug - it
  must be something that uses APR, like tomcat, to pull in the static
  libtcnative-1.a library.

- I haven't set up tomcat myself to reproduce and verify this, but the
- reporter of this bug to me uses this connector to enable TLSv1.3 in
- their tomcat deployment, and it fails with the current tcnative-1
- package:
+ I haven't set up tomcat myself, and I'm not familiar enough with it to
+ know how to set it up to reproduce this; but the reporter of this bug to
+ me uses this connector to enable TLSv1.3 in their tomcat deployment, and
+ it fails with the current tcnative-1 package:

  with a simple no-change rebuild, the tcnative-1 package provides a
  libtcnative-1.a that does provide TLSv1.3 to their tomcat deployment.

  [regression potential]

  as this is a rebuild-only, any regression would likely impact tomcat9,
  especially in the area of supported TLS/SSL ciphers.

  [other info]

+ The impact section description is based on my limited understanding of
+ how tomcat9 and APR work to load the libtcnative-1 library; I have not
+ confirmed that the static libtcnative-1.a lib caches the older libssl
+ version, but I'm not sure what else in the libtcnative-1 package could
+ cache the value. The person who reported this to me did confirm that a
+ simple no-change rebuild of the library fixes this for them.
+
  This isn't technically a regression, as before OpenSSL was upgraded to
  1.1 in Bionic, tomcat9 didn't provide TLSv1.3 support; but now that
  OpenSSL 1.1 is available in Bionic, tomcat9 should support TLSv1.3. As
  far as I know, this did not actually introduce any errors/failures for
  anyone currently using tomcat9 with TLSv1.2 or earlier.

  I marked this with the tag 'bionic-openssl-1.1' as it falls into the
  group of bugs introduced by the upgrade of openssl from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1.

  This affects only Bionic; Xenial doesn't include libssl 1.1, and the latest
tomcat-native in Disco was built with libssl 1.1.1a:

[Bug 1856257] Re: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error

2019-12-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1856257

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

To look at your issue I'd like to read `dmesg` output by using
built-in tools much detail we look at is included, currently it's not
present. I've subsequently marked this incomplete. When apport-collect
has been run, please comment as such and return status to "New".

[Bug 1856255] Re: Apport-bug wrongly complains about the program not being installed

2019-12-12 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

There is no package named `ifconfig` so you cannot file a bug against a
non-existent package.

Your "Apport told me that ifconfig was not installed. But it was!" is
incorrect as apport deals with packages not commands. I have `ifconfig`
installed on my box too, and a `dpkg -S /sbin/ifconfig` reports "net-
tools: /sbin/ifconfig" ie. the command `ifconfig` is found in the "net-
tools" package and that is what you should use with appport.

Reading your report it appears you are mostly after support.

This bug report can be converted to a question (aimed at support, bug
reports are aimed and finding problems and fixing so subsequent users
won't stumble with the same issue).

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

I'm going to mark this report "incomplete" as it appears to be about
support issues. If you believe I'm in error, please respond saying so in
comment, and then the Status can be returned to "New".

Thanks again for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1856257] [NEW] SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error

2019-12-12 Thread Martin Constantino–Bodin
Public bug reported:

My wifi is no longer working since a recent update (yesterday, I think).
When typing “ifconfig -a”, I get (among other connections), the
following one, which seems to correspond to my wifi card:

```bash
wlp59s0: flags=4098  mtu 1500
ether 5c:87:9c:fa:81:c9  txqueuelen 1000  (Ethernet)
RX packets 0  bytes 0 (0.0 B)
RX errors 0  dropped 0  overruns 0  frame 0
TX packets 0  bytes 0 (0.0 B)
TX errors 0  dropped 0 overruns 0  carrier 0  collisions 0
```

I thus tried to switch it on, but I get the following message:

```bash
$ sudo ifconfig wlp59s0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error
```
This error message is not really helpful: I would have expected ifconfig to
provide a more user-friendly explanation about what is not working well.

Other commands that might be relevant:

```bash
$ iwconfig
lono wireless extensions.
enp0s20f0u1  no wireless extensions.
wlp59s0   IEEE 802.11  ESSID:off/any
[Bug 1856255] [NEW] Apport-bug wrongly complains about the program not being installed
2019-12-12 Thread Martin Constantino–Bodin
Public bug reported:
I typed “apport-bug ifconfig” because ifconfig was wrongly behaving.
Apport told me that ifconfig was not installed.  But it was!  So I
restarted my computer, just in case, but the bug is still there.  And
for all programs that it tried.  Including Apport itself.
Currently, when I type “apport-bug apport-bug”, I get a window “Problem
in apport-bug” with the following message: “The problem cannot be
reported: This report is about a package that is not installed.” (See
screenshot here-attached.)
The error message is clearly wrong: apport-bug must be installed to be able to
display this window.
1. I'm the author of the patch.
2. The bug exists only in Ubuntu, not in upstream version of plymouth - it's
caused by the changes included in "misc-changes.patch" (that I'm not touching
[Bug 1855237] Re: Unable to reboot Disco on Ubuntu LPAR s390x (5.0.0-38)
2019-12-12 Thread Sean Feole
Spent quite a bit of time on this and finally some progress.
This is not a critical bug anymore as I can now successfully reboot my lpar
with the -proposed kernel 5.0.0-38 for SRU Cycle 2019.12.02
During deployment of an lpar we configure DASD aliases via multipath,
usually this is required for disk performance however in our lab we are
always connecting to just 1 disk, so there is no need to i/o performance
in the test lab.
Also it is in question if DASD Aliases should not be used on an lpar as
they may only be for Zvm's, is this a proper supported configuration?
It would appear that having an active subchannel "chzdev -e
0.0.17e0-0.0." is what perhaps is leading to this reboot problem.
The system actually is really "rebooting", it simply takes over 20
minutes to accomplish that task.
Why so long?
The assumption is that, once a channel is activated, the system will
build udev rules and rebuild the initramfs. Thus during the reboot
phase, the lpar must query each of the enabled disks to ensure they are
ok.  Oddly , we don't see a delay in a shutdown command either.
This is just an assumption since I only see the problem once I activate
host multipath via chzdev. This problem has never been seen or
experienced in the past and is only isolated to this kernel. Xenial,Eoan
-proposed both restart just fine (For this SRU cycle)
It's possible that a commit made within this cycle has exposed this
issue. However for now there is a valid workaround.
In the lpar that Frank Heimes tested, he did NOT have multipathing
configured as his system rebooted without any delays, just as I
experienced after a fresh install (no multipathing configured)
I'm going to leave the severity at Medium as Frank Heimes will obtaining
more information about the disk multipathing on the lpar. To see if this
possibly is the culprit.
