[Bug 1862888] [NEW] Boot hang on ASUS WS X299 SAGE
Public bug reported: [Impact] Upstream kernels since 5.3 fail to boot on the ASUS WS X299 SAGE motherboard with firmware version 1201. This is the result of an infinite loop while trying to parse a malformed ACPI table. It is suspected to affect other ASUS motherboards, but I have no first hand proof of that. This is particularly troublesome for bionic HWE installs, which will then fail to boot after upgrading to the 5.3 series eoan kernel. [Test Case] Try to boot an ASUS WS X299 SAGE computer with firmware version 1201. Eoan and Focal kernels will fail to boot. Upstream kernel 5.6-rc1 will boot succressfully. [Fix] Cherry pick upstream 2b73ea379624 ("x86/boot: Handle malformed SRAT tables during early ACPI parsing") [Regression Potential] Low. Any system affected by this patch is already failing to boot. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: cherry-pick eoan focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862888 Title: Boot hang on ASUS WS X299 SAGE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1862888/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862414] Re: lots of entries in vmware-vmsvc-root.log "[ warning] [guestinfo] GuestInfoGetDiskDevice: Missing disk device name;
* [eab2f1a] Add vmtoolsd.service alias. Debian's open-vm-tools.service is rather unsuaul and based on the history of the package, so ship an alias. * [b2977cd] Rectify a log spew in vmsvc logging. Upstream commit 4ee0bd3c8ead89541ab7d196fb54e940e397420d When a LSI Logic Parallel SCSI controller sits in PCI bus 0 (SCSI controller 0), the Linux disk device enumeration does not provide a "label" file with the controller name. This results in messages like "GuestInfoGetDiskDevice: Missing disk device name; VMDK mapping unavailable for "/var/log", fsName: "/dev/sda2" repeatedly appearing in the vmsvc logging. The patch converts what previously was a warning message to a debug message and thus avoids the log spew. [Bug 1862885] [NEW] Sometimes can't adjust brightness on Dell AIO
Public bug reported: [Impact] We already added retry on the backlight driver, but the scalar have to take some time to activate panel during booting up, and 2 seconds seem doesn't enough. So, it sometimes fails to get the response from scalar. [Fix] Enlarge the retry time from 2 seconds to 5 seconds. We didn't observe the response time longer than 3 seconds, but to be more confident, enlarge the value to 5 seconds. [Test] Verified on new Dell AIO platform. [Regression Potential] Low, increase the retry times doesn't hurt anything. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux-oem-osp1 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux-oem-osp1 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Eoan) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Eoan) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-oem-osp1 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: linux-oem-osp1 (Ubuntu Eoan) ** No longer affects: linux-oem-osp1 (Ubuntu Focal) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862885 Title: Sometimes can't adjust brightness on Dell AIO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1862885/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862876] Re: gnome-mpv crashes on starting - lubuntu 18.04.4 live media (inc. installed versions)
** Description changed: A support request had me explore `gnome-mpv` on lubuntu 18.04.4 (i386) I used the recent (RC) install media; and it crashes there too :( I've tried this on a couple of boxes; occurs on each. It also occurs on a recent 18.04.4 QA-install too (hp dx6120mt; the install was kubuntu 18.04.4 where I added lubuntu-desktop. On the installed (dx6120) box when using KDE OR LXDE, `gnome-mpv` opens and sits there without issue (why it possibly wasn't noticed earlier), but crashes when a file is selected. On normal 'live' tests programs are only opened & then closed (no files opened usually) thus why noticed so late. It maybe specific to type of files opened, but all files tried caused `gnome-mpv` to crash (i usually resorted to opening gnome-mpv from terminal as far quicker in testing files instead of navigating with gui). I tested the same thing on amd64 and didn't have an issue there (unless it's box specific) Failed on dell latitude d610 (pentium m, 1.5gb, intel i915) - i386 hp dx6120mt (mini-tower, pentium 4 dual core, 3gb, winfast clone of nvidia 7600gt) - i386 + ibm thinkpad t43 (pentium m, 1.5gb ram, radeon x300) - i386 No issue on hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290) - amd64 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: gnome-mpv 0.13-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-28.30~18.04.1-generic 5.3.13 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-28-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.9 Architecture: i386 CasperVersion: 1.394.3 CurrentDesktop: LXDE Date: Wed Feb 12 04:31:21 2020 LiveMediaBuild: Lubuntu 18.04.4 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release i386 (20200203) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=C.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-mpv UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862876 Title: gnome-mpv crashes on starting - lubuntu 18.04.4 live media (inc. installed versions) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-mpv/+bug/1862876/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1856603] Re: fstrim on nvme / AMD CPU fails and produces kernel error messages
Thanks. I read that but I'm 1) on eoan, and 2) already running a custom kernel 5.3.10+ that has this fix. 1) should be an easy substitute, but I'm really nervous about trying to shoehorn instructions from the section following the one you quoted into a system that's already pretty customized (and running in production). I'm not expert enough in switching among different kernels to be remotely comfortable with the instructions as they're currently laid out, so I guess I have to wait for someone who knows what they're doing to test this. If it helps, I can tell you that I applied the diff that started this whole thing and rebuilt the kernel and things have been working well ever since. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856603 Title: fstrim on nvme / AMD CPU fails and produces kernel error messages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1856603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
