[Bug 1856653] Re: CVE-2019-0154 caused major power problem, pls backport upstream's fix

2020-02-13 Thread Tim Richardson
Also, please note the upstream bug discussion also includes patches for 5.4
It seems that 5.4 is destined for 20.04. So far 5.4 upstream is still using the
first release of this patch, which means 5.4 has the i915 RC6 bug. 5.4 is a LTS
kernel bug so it strange to me, but please, I hope you can consider making sure
that 20.04 does not launch with this nasty power regression.

[Bug 1839290] Re: systemd doesn't restart a service after crashes

Thank you, Dan.
The PPA build indeed fixes the test case in #8, for Xenial at the very least.
Sending SIGABRT to foo.service's process now causes services to restart, just
as intended. Here are the logs from the very same Xenial machine, as in #8:

[Bug 1862437] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 & later, & derivatives do not query the assigned DNS server

2020-02-13 Thread Bruce Goodman
Apologies, I do not understand the interest in a vanilla lxc container.
My test distributions are all default bare metal installations in a
multi-boot configuration on a single ethernet connected laptop.

My appreciation of the Test Case code above is that it is doing an
nslookup on the host name of the querying machine - it is resolving its
own name. The name resolution issue I'm trying to convey is that
Ubuntu 16.10 and forward, and derivative distributions, do not query
their assigned DNS to resolve host names of other devices on the LAN.
In the example I have used, BGOWIKI01v resides on another of my LAN's
computers. BGOWIKI01v has a static IP address asigned, as do several
other servers and printers I have, and their IP address to hostname
assignments are stored in the hosts file on my DNS server computer. So
when my machines need to resolve a nearby host name it queries the DNS,
which returns the address from its hosts file. That mechanism has been
shown in the extracts provided above to work for the other cited
distributions. Moreover, Windows (7 and 10) machines, tablets (both
IOS and Android), and Android phones that connect wirelessly also
resolve other host names on my LAN.

Put simply, except for Ubuntu 16.10 forward and derivatives, the
browsers on every other device on my LAN can resolve and load the wiki
pages hosted on my BGOWIKI01v virtual. Ubuntu 16.10 forward and
derivatives do not.

This additional snippet may help - these commands were run on the Ubuntu
18.04 MATE petition;

   bruce@BGOLIN702:~$ nslookup BGOWIKI01v
   Server: 127.0.0.53
   Address: 127.0.0.53#53

   ** server can't find BGOWIKI01v: SERVFAIL

   bruce@BGOLIN702:~$ nslookup
   > BGOWIKI01v
   Server: 127.0.0.53
   Address: 127.0.0.53#53

   ** server can't find BGOWIKI01v: SERVFAIL
   > server 192.168.3.2
   Default server: 192.168.3.2
   Address: 192.168.3.2#53
   > BGOWIKI01v
   Server: 192.168.3.2
   Address: 192.168.3.2#53

   Name:BGOWIKI01v
   Address: 192.168.3.60
   > ^Cbruce@BGOLIN702:~$ nslookup BGOWIKI01v
   Server: 127.0.0.53
   Address: 127.0.0.53#53

   ** server can't find BGOWIKI01v: SERVFAIL

   bruce@BGOLIN702:~

What this shows is name resolution fails, as I've described.
But when I enter into nslookup and manually assign the DNS server the lookup
succeeds.
However, on exit from nslookup resolution again fails.

Regards
Bruce Goodman

[Bug 1855469] Re: gnome-shell lags on wayland

2020-02-13 Thread domak
Hello,

You're right, the problem is linked with the memory and swapoff was a
workaround that worked only if the need of memory was not too high.

I installed a kernel 5.4, and the problem also disapeared. I will stay
with this, even if the laptop is not in stand by mode when I close the
lid.

Before installing the new kernel it was easy to reproduce, just open an app
that need a lot of memory (intellij idea) and a few chromium tabs, but as the
system freezed I could not even access to a terminal.

Thanks

[Bug 1862773] Re: [MIR] python-tabulate (dependency of cinder)

2020-02-13 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
[Summary]
Other than the known - but sort of accepted - duplication issue this LGTM.
Following the rules this also needs security review, and for an ack you also
need to add the team subscription.

@Openstack:
- please subscribe to the package and ping back here.
- thanks for improving and going ahead of Debian, but please continue to
  put attention onto the package.

@Security - review needed, but should be small and fast

[Duplication]
There is the duplication issue with python3-prettytable that was already
mentioned in the description.

But the reasoning for the duplication rule is to keep maintenance effort
reasonable, this one does not seem to increase that a lot.

For now there seems to be no way to do openstack without it and switching that
to python3-prettytable seems just as un-practical than vice versa.

Never the less I'd want to ask the Openstack Team after the current releases
are done to check how doable a switch to python-tabulate would be for the
remaining rev-deps. Can (and most likely is) be "not doable", but then we
know instead of guess.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- no other Dependencies to MIR due to this
- no -dev/-debug/-doc packages that need exclusion

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- history of CVEs does not look concerning
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

Problems:
- it does not parse data formats to render them

I'm torn as this is really minimal, but following the rules there could be
something in here that could be exploited by people manipulating the data.
And that way people might breach into a more important program that depends/uses
python-tabulate.
This is small, so the review should be quick - but I'd ask to do one (better
safe than sorry)

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
  - test suite fails will fail the build upon error.
- no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)?
- no new python2 dependency
- used dh_python

Problems:
- does not have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest (probably ok for this as
  itself only depends on python3)
- ubuntu-openstack (nor openstack-ubuntu-packagers) isn't subscribed yet

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Debian/Ubuntu update history is sporadic, but you fixed that - thanks
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs
that so far maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- not using Built-Using

Problems:
- Ubuntu does carry a delta, but it is reasonable and maintenance under control
I mean thanks for updating and enabling the tests, but just be clear that
therefore this package seems to be more on you than usual.
Please plan to not just update it for promotion, but also regularly later on.

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- no embedded source copies
- not part of the UI for extra checks

[Bug 1757815] Re: Please port your package away from Qt 4

2020-02-13 Thread Rik Mills
Please remove window-mocker from focal: src and binaries

$ reverse-depends src:window-mocker
No reverse dependencies found

$ reverse-depends -b src:window-mocker
No reverse dependencies found

Only user of this and reason for existence was unity/autopilot tests.
Dependency and requirement there now dropped.

Build and runtime depends on python-qt4 packages, so needs to go to
allow that to be removed.

[Bug 1858810] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2020-02-13 Thread Joseph Maillardet via ubuntu-bugs
@vicamo, I attach the informations $(dmesg | grep microcode) give me
when booting with power supply and no special kernel option, and some
other potentially useful info.

I'm not sure this is what you asked me to give you :-/

Know, I don't understand why the result of dmesg command is different
from the result obtained after starting on battery with the nosmp option
that you linked in the message #3.

thank you for your involvement!

[Bug 1863073] [NEW] ubiquity-dm in Kubuntu Focal does not display the KDE wallpaper

2020-02-13 Thread Rik Mills
Public bug reported:

ubiquity-dm in Kubuntu Focal does not display the KDE wallpaper on the
try/install. Instead a black background is shown.

The reason is that ubiquity-dm specifies the wallpaper for kde/Kubuntu
as:

/usr/share/wallpapers/Next/contents/images/2560x1600.png

https://git.launchpad.net/ubiquity/tree/bin/ubiquity-dm#n707

This has been valid for many many plasma releases, however in Plasma
5.18 the winner of the upstream wallpaper competition was included and
shipped there as .jpg. Obviously ubiquity-dm fails to find the png it
expects. Symlinking or copying the jpg as a png does not work around the
issue.

So we likely need to either; (a) change the hardcoded path, or (b) make
the wallpaper ubiquity dm looks for set by something like an environment
variable or config file supplied/set by the flavour (default setting
package?)

[Bug 1863074] [NEW] binary installed in /usr/games/bin instead of /usr/games

2020-02-13 Thread John Tsiombikas
Public bug reported:

Currently (daily build of 20.04 as of 13 feb 2020) the termtris binary
is installed in /usr/games/bin, which is not in the PATH. The correct
directory would be /usr/games. Termtris release 1.4 includes a makefile
variable called BINDIR which can be used to solve this issue easily.

A debian bug report about this problem is open since november 2019:
