Happened again.
Bug did not seem to submit report once more.
Screenshot as per comment #2
Report was produced which I managed to see the details but sending report did
not return a bug ID.

See this from terminal where I carried out action 1a in comment #3.
Still no bug ID.

[Bug 1865838] [NEW] no error popup while exceed maximal fingerprint retry during login

2020-03-03 Thread Alex Tu
Public bug reported:

from journalctl, gdm-fingerprint shows error there after retried 5 times
of fingerprint login failed, so I open this issue here.

Steps to reproduce issue:
1. enroll fingerprint for your right index finger.
2. logout
3. login and try login by incorrect finger e.g. middle finger
4. after 5 times retry. There's no error popup, then re-try index finger still
no any message remind users they can not try fingerprint anymore.

It will confuse user.

Suggest behavior:
 1. Each time user try fingerprint failed, show error message to remind user.
 2. When user exceed 5 time errors, show error message to remind user input
password instead.

Yeah ok it is inverted logic, ok then modify it to that ...
"For each character in string , if the character is not in valid_chars ,
replaces the character with substitutor."

[Bug 1865517] Re: cannot log in with long username

2020-03-03 Thread Jo K
Nothing but i misexplained, bug isn't related to the fact that account exists
or not.
Please try to enter in a tty that exact login :

'username.lastnamelastnamelastn...@domain.fr'

It reset without asking for password, and the error line is added to
auth.log

Then try :

'username.lastn...@domain.fr'

It asks for password, even that account doesn't exists, and the error
line isn't added

[Bug 1847361] Re: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules

2020-03-03 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
## Test ##

1. I have a qemu with the experimental patch applied
# dpkg -l qemu-system-x86
 1:4.2-3ubuntu2~ppa3

2. prep disk xml to load curl.so
# cat > curldisk.xml << EOF

EOF

3. check not being loaded
# lsof -p $(pidof qemu-system-x86_64) | grep block

4. load curl.so
# virsh attach-device focal2 curldisk.xml

5. check to be loaded now
# lsof -p $(pidof qemu-system-x86_64) | grep block
qemu-syst 19837 libvirt-qemu mem REG 0,83 34408
386797 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/block-curl.so

1-5 above worked well as-is and my debug code spew out in the log:
DEBUG: trying to load module: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/block-curl.so

Ok, lets do the same again but remove the qemu-system-block-extra
package to have the .so only in /var/run.

The qemu version in the binary matches:
# qemu-system-x86_64 --version
QEMU emulator version 4.2.0 (Debian 1:4.2-3ubuntu2~ppa3)
Copyright (c) 2003-2019 Fabrice Bellard and the QEMU Project developers

The files matched (but the /usr/lib path is removed before the experiment:
root@f:~# md5sum /var/run/qemu/1_4_2-3ubuntu2~ppa3/*curl*
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/*curl*
3d00fe34bddac3caeec9a4be91d84bae
/var/run/qemu/1_4_2-3ubuntu2~ppa3/block-curl.so
3d00fe34bddac3caeec9a4be91d84bae
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/orig.block-curl.so.orig

Nothing loaded in advance:
# lsof -p $(pidof qemu-system-x86_64) | grep block

Uh there is some serious wrong replacement happening :-)
DEBUG: trying to load module: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qemu/block-curl.so
DEBUG: trying to load module: /usr/bin/../block-curl.so
DEBUG: trying to load module: /usr/bin/block-curl.so
DEBUG: trying to load module:
/var/run/qemu/:_.___/block-curl.so

So this
Debian 1:4.2-3ubuntu2~ppa3
became
:_.___
That replaced the inverse of what I wanted!
Was that function using an allowed set ... ?

[Bug 1865837] [NEW] Lubuntu 20.04 qa-test install; flashing at sddm greeter when mouse at top panel (pre-login)

2020-03-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

First boot after new install; Lubuntu 20.04 QA-test install

NOTE: I re-used partitions, /dev/sda8 (/) was empty, but /dev/sda9
(/home) contained data. sddm wasn't used as DM before Lubuntu 20.04
installs, so I doubt it's related to a conf/config issue relating to
sddm.

Description:

At first boot, I expect the cursor to move around the display without
bright flahes of WHITE covering parts of the screen; that are very
bright/distracting (somewhat strobe like).

It only has this effect when the cursor/pointer is moved at the top of
the display in what I'd describe as a panel. If the cursor is over the
'top' bar I get a strobbing effect as the cursor/pointer moves. Stop
moving the mouse and the effect stops, move it off the top 'panel' and
it's gone too.

The 'flash' or 'strobe' like effects covers the whole screen, and occurs when
the mouse is over
- Session drop down box (not word itself, the Lubuntu drop-down bit)
- Layout - US flag drop down
- Pause/Reboot/Off icons top right.
Elsewhere on the top 'panel' and there is no effect.

It also occurs at the left arrow near the "Chris Guiver" password area,
no issue if I move over white-grey-person-password area, just over the
"<" to the left of that box. This could be a real possibly should a
person react to 'flashes' (I'm thinking epilepsy but just a thought).

The screen appears to flash all WHITE with a triangle pushing out from
the left (reminds me of screen tearing). I haven't noticed this before
on other boxes.

On logging out, I get a brief strobe too before or as `ssdm` is drawn.

This could be filed again wrong package, I suspect it relates to
xserver-xorg-video-radeon or something GPU related.

2020-03-03 Thread Jo K
All Ubuntu systems are affected.
That's not related to a personal configuration, booting live latest ubuntu let
me reproduce this.

Its more clear on tty, as you see username field resets, but it's the
same from ligthdm

So should i open a bug for agetty package instead ?

the display in what I'd describe as a panel. If the cursor is over the
'top' bar I get a strobbing effect as the cursor/pointer moves. Stop
moving the mouse and the effect stops, move it off the top 'panel' and
  it's gone too.
+
+ The 'flash' or 'strobe' like effects covers the whole screen, and occurs when
the mouse is over
+ - Session drop down box (not word itself, the Lubuntu drop-down bit)
+ - Layout - US flag drop down
+ - Pause/Reboot/Off icons top right.
+ Elsewhere on the top 'panel' and there is no effect.
+
+ It also occurs at the left arrow near the "Chris Guiver" password area,
+ no issue if I move over white-grey-person-password area, just over the
+ "<" to the left of that box. This could be a real possibly should a
+ person react to 'flashes' (I'm thinking epilepsy but just a thought).
+
+ The screen appears to flash all WHITE with a triangle pushing out from
+ the left (reminds me of screen tearing). I haven't noticed this before
+ on other boxes.
+
+ On logging out, I get a brief strobe too before or as `ssdm` is drawn.
+

This could be filed again wrong package, I suspect it relates to
  xserver-xorg-video-radeon or something GPU related.

[Bug 1864223] Re: shim 15+1552672080.a4a1fbe-0ubuntu1 fails to load fwupd

2020-03-03 Thread Eugene Crosser
I think that it happens to me, and it's regression going from eoan to
focal. Firmware updates are downloaded and installed, and even if I set
BootNext by hand, it is bypassed.

Linux-Firmware-Updater looks suspicious to me:

# efibootmgr -v|grep Linux-Firmware-Updater
Boot0002* Linux-Firmware-Updater
HD(1,GPT,6ccce482-e2c2-48ca-991e-608bee5d38af,0x800,0x10)/File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)\.f.w.u.p.d.x.6.4...e.f.i...

Is ".f.w.u.p.d.x.6.4...e.f.i" supposed to look like that?

[Bug 1865410] Re: Xorg freeze

2020-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

As I said earlier I totally agree with the comment above :

Manual whitelisting from the snap team will always be a blocker for such
a widely adopted use of an important browser.

That will push people to use chrome which IMO a failure on the libre

ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1865845] [NEW] no fingerprint enrolling progress information

2020-03-03 Thread Alex Tu
Public bug reported:

there is no progress information shows to user while enrolling fingerprint.
It might confuse user thinking it as freeze failure.

steps:
1. enroll fingerprint in gnome-control-center
2. click 'Next' on the enrolling page
3. There is no message tell user that it need at least 12 times touching
fingerprint.
4. user press fingerprint for 5 times, there is no way to cancel enrolling.
5. user wait for timeout and get error message for timeout notification.
6. after 5. user page of setting will always failed and show no user found.

So, the suggestion would be:
1. remind user to press 12 times on fingerprint for step 3.
2. show the progress during user pressing fingerprint for step 4.

And this also introduce some critical issue of step 6 that user page in
settings failed forever.

[Bug 1855303] Re: Update Broadcom Emulex lpfc driver in 5.4 to 12.6.0.x from 5.5

2020-03-03 Thread Jeff Lane
** Description changed:

- This is a massive number of updates by Broadcom to the lpfc driver that
- didn't make 5.4 in time. As 20.04 is an LTS release with expected
- hardware support for 5 years, we need to ensure as much hardware support
- lands as possible to support server vendors over the next couple years.
+ [IMPACT]
+ This is a massive number of updates by Broadcom to the lpfc driver that
didn't make 5.4 in time. As 20.04 is an LTS release with expected hardware
support for 5 years, we need to ensure as much hardware support lands as
possible to support server vendors over the next couple years.

Broadcom has updated the lpfc driver to version 12.6.0.2 in 5.5. The
version in focal is 12.2.0.3 and missing several bug fixes and hardware
- support additions. Given the number of patches missing in Focal, and
- that they all apply to a single driver, it may be easiest to just pick
- the version in 5.5 fully, rather than apply so many patches to the 5.4
- tree, but that's just a suggestion.
+ support additions.

Please update the driver in focal appropriately.

[Bug 1865851] [NEW] pcmanfm-qt item selection feature in single-click mode

2020-03-03 Thread bzb001
Public bug reported:

lubuntu 19.10
pcmanfm-qt 0.14.1

when pcmanfm-qt is configured to use single-click mode...

1)when the pcmanfm window is given focus
Currently, when placing the focus on pcmanfm the item clicked would be
activated.
I suggest the first click anywhere on pcmanfm when given focus should be
ignored as a command to activate an item.

2)selecting an item
Currently, clicking anywhere on an entry would activate the entry. This
condition causes a lot of inconvenience especially when you just want to click
on an item to highlight it.
I suggest only the "name" column clicked should the item be activated. Anywhere
else should be considered a selection request.

3)auto selection
Currently, auto selection is active always. This is very distracting and
defeating when trying to rename a file and because the cursor has accidentally
moved to another entry the renaming process is disrupted.
I suggest the following sequence for item selection...
user clicks on first item (not clicking on "name" column, as clicking on
this column would activate item, except when ctl or shift key is depressed
while clicking)
user ctl-click on any subsequent entries to highlight it and include into
list of selected items
user shift-click to toggle all items between the last selected item and
current item
user clicks on any other item will reset the selection and highlight only
that item
suggestion#2: Is auto selection really necessary? It seems more inconvenient
then useful

[Bug 1865499] Re: pulseaudio doesn't detect (new) USB headset

2020-03-03 Thread Timo Denissen
Got feedback from one of my colleagues that running Ubuntu 18.04.4 with
Kernel 5.3.0-40, "pkill -U $USER pulseaudio" does not resolve the
problem, only a full restart of the system.

Is there anything I can do to provide additional logs? Running a
debugger when plugging in the headset, logfiles with a specific log
level?

[Bug 1865499] Re: pulseaudio doesn't detect (new) USB headset

2020-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. If you can then please also try Ubuntu 19.10
(https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop) so we can get a slightly better
idea of which PulseAudio version introduced the fix.

[Bug 1865862] [NEW] 'sound' settings require changing device and back again

2020-03-03 Thread Max Waterman
Public bug reported:

I have two actual audio devices plugged in: 1. speaker under my monitor
plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack, 2. a set of USB headphones.

The 'Sound' settings panel shows three devices:
1. Headphones - built in audio
2. Digital output (s/pdif) - Jambra UC Voice 750 MS
3. Headphones - Jambra UC Voice 750 MS

(I don't really know what 2 is - I usually ignore it)

Normally, after plugging the headphones in, it has 3 selected, but the
'Test' button still plays through 1.

I have to change the 'output device' to 1, then back to 3 in order to
make it work on 3.

So, this bug is that the control centre does not reflect reality when
you launch it. It looks like it is automatically selecting the
headphones just plugged in, but it hasn't actually changed.
