[Bug 1743529] Re: Merge kexec-tools 2.0.16-1 from Debian: System hung with Kernel panic -not syncing: Out of memory message when crash is triggered.

2020-03-19 Thread Jens Elkner
kdump package is crap, because it is using a different image (initrd)
than update-initramfs creates, so /boot/initrd.img-* !=
/var/lib/kdump/initrd.img-* . Yes, they may have the same name, but not
the same content. What a hugh bullshit! So no wonder, why one has to
waste several hours to find out, why /etc/systemd/network/* get not
honored. Crap, crap, crap!

[Bug 1868061] [NEW] linux-image-5.3.0-42-generic regression: no audio output on HP EliteBook 840 G6

2020-03-19 Thread Nico R.
Public bug reported:

Symptoms:

no hardware audio output device found by PulseAudio on eoan after I have
updated the system yesterday.

Works: linux-image-5.3.0-40-generic
Does not work: linux-image-5.3.0-42-generic

* I suspect this is somewhat related to the recent changes for SkyLake+
platforms between tags Ubuntu-5.3.0-40.32 and Ubuntu-5.3.0-42.34 (I am
referring to the repo at
).

* I am using the binary package from the Ubuntu repos, not a self-built
kernel.

* I can help with bisecting and testing if you like. If you like me to,
I need a piece of advice: is
 the proper up-to-
date documentation for building my Ubuntu kernel from the sources in the
git repo?

What I have tried so far:

I wanted to reload the sound module(s), so I ran the following command:

$ pulseaudio -k ; sudo rmmod snd_hda_intel snd_soc_skl_hda_dsp
snd_soc_skl_ssp_clk snd_soc_skl snd_soc_skl_ipc

Then I ran:

# modprobe snd-hda-intel

I found the following in my syslog (not totally sure about when exactly this
happened – before or after the rmmod/modprobe):

(see attached file)

Output of ‘sudo lspci -vvnn’ (warning: on 5.3.0-40-generic! Because I am
working in parallel and need a functioning audio setup right now; I can try
this on another kernel in the evening if absolutely necessary, but this should
suffice):

(see attached file)

If more information is necessary for proper debugging, please give me some
instructions what to do. Thanks! ☺

I recommend making this bug unique to the machine model, and to the
peripheral model. Most likely it's only triggered by one of them but
while we don't know which it will help to avoid multiple people jumping
on board the wrong bug.

I can't seem to reproduce this bug in focal right now, but I do see
other bugs sometimes which some people could confuse for this one.

[Bug 1867820] Re: linux-azure: Update SGX version and udev rules

2020-03-19 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Hello Marcelo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-base into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
base/4.5ubuntu1.1~16.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1866194] Re: [Zoom USB audio on Dell Inspiron 7370] shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker

2020-03-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'll unassign myself since I have no way to reproduce this right now.

We may yet group similar bugs with this one in future but generally it's
more helpful to deter people from doing that too soon. Otherwise when a
bug is declared fixed someone will pipe up and say it's not, when really
they've just subscribed to the wrong bug.

Hi. Everything looks fine now. Interface issues and the start of flicker
is gone. What happened was the screen turned black every few seconds. I
will report it again with video if or when that happens again.

Also used the terminal instruction, dont know what it means. Lol

Have a nice day. 😄

I identified and backported (only one needed modification) 33 patches.
But as usual there might be some context needed on top - I have build that over

So yes, these changes fix the issue here (and a bunch of others).
I'll open up an MP to get these changes into Ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1867431] Re: ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'libc6'

2020-03-19 Thread Matthias Klose
if you didn't yet reboot, re-install the libcrypt1 package:

apt install --reinstall libcrypt1

$ ls -l /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Mar 10 17:24 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 202760 Mar 10 17:24
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1.1.0

if you didn't yet upgrade from an earlier focal version, make sure that you
remove the libcrypt1 package before the upgrade. Then do a normal upgrade.

Upgrades from bionic or eoan are not affected.

[Bug 1866194] Re: [Zoom USB audio on Dell Inspiron 7370] shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker

2020-03-19 Thread Pierre Equoy
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu version: focal dev
  Kernel version: 5.4.0-14-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 6 22:47:59 UTC 2020
  Device CID: 201704-25503

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to Bluetooth settings panel
  2. Pair a BT device
  3. Make sure it's marked as Connected, and go to the Sound settings
  4. Make sure it's the one selected as "Output device"
  5. Click "Test"
-> the test sound outputs from the internal laptop speakers (NOK)
  6. Select "Speakers - Built-in Audio" as Output device and click "Test"
-> the test sound outputs from the internal laptop speakers (OK)
  7. Try to switch back to the BT device and click Test
-> same result as in step 5

Tested with 2 different BT devices (one headset and one speaker)

Attached are btmon logs captured during the procedure described above,
and pactl logs capture after step 7.
+
+ I was previously using 19.04 and 19.10 on this device and never
+ experienced this kind of issue.

Up to this morning, it was harder to connect the BT device, but once
connected, the sound would output on it as expected. Now, the BT
connection seems to work better, but I can't output the sound to the BT
  device...

I tried to reboot the device, and also to suspend/resume, but in each
case, the BT device can connect back, but the sound is still output from
the internal laptop speakers, even when the BT device is selected in the
  Sound settings.

[Bug 1647285] Re: SSL trust not system-wide

2020-03-19 Thread Olivier Tilloy
It looks like symlinking firefox and thunderbird's own copies of
libnssckbi.so to the system-wide p11-kit-trust.so is the proper way to
fix this bug, as far as Mozilla's products are concerned.

Before I proceed to doing this, I'd welcome comments from the security
team on this approach though, as I suspect I don't understand all the
implications.

(an alternative would be building firefox/thunderbird against the
system-wide nss, but firefox currently requires 3.50, which isn't yet in
focal, and I suspect that requirement is being bumped often, so that
wouldn't really work with our distribution model)

[Bug 1866870] Re: KVM Guest pauses after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

2020-03-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
With that confirmed I checked if I can just point to a bios to break it, and
indeed adding
  -bios /root/seabios_1.12.0-1/usr/share/seabios/bios.bin
  -bios /root/seabios_1.13.0-1/usr/share/seabios/bios.bin
respectively is a make or break change.

As a next step I reproduced the error with seabios rel-1.13.0 from
https://review.coreboot.org/seabios.git.
It crashes as well.

But to make this puzzle even more interesting rel-1.12.0 from the same git
crashes as well.
I wonder where this trip might end, from qemu to seabios to ... compiler?

[Bug 1866870] Re: KVM Guest pauses after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

2020-03-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I wanted to make sure why different qemu configs make it trigger or not,
and after finding seabios to be related the candidates were obvious.

Default config gets us:
BIOS directory/usr/local/share/qemu

The long conf had:
--firmwarepath=/usr/share/qemu:/usr/share/seabios:/usr/lib/ipxe/qemu

Adding that to the short config which had most things disabled made it break as
well.
Since it has much less moving parts having most other features disabled I'll
continue to use that.

[Bug 1866870] Re: KVM Guest pauses after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

2020-03-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Turns out 1.12 is a fairly old build and the working version in Ubuntu was from
in Disco, therefore about a year ago.
=> https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seabios/1.12.0-1/+build/16284605

Therefore I built it in Eoan and even Disco.
As an overview:
Disco: gcc 4:8.3.0-1ubuntu3 binutils 2.32-7ubuntu4
Eoan: gcc 4:9.2.1-3.1ubuntu1 binutils 2.33-2ubuntu1.2
Focal: gcc 4:9.2.1-3.1ubuntu1 binutils 2.34-4ubuntu1

I ended up with these binaries to test:
./git-built-in-eoan/rel-1.12/bios.bin Breaks
./git-built-in-eoan/rel-1.13/bios.bin Breaks
./git-built-in-disco/rel-1.13/bios.bin Works
./git-built-in-disco/rel-1.12/bios.bin Works
./git-built-in-focal/head/bios.bin Breaks
./git-built-in-focal/rel-1.12/bios.bin Breaks
./git-built-in-focal/rel-1.13/bios.bin Breaks
./packaging/disco-seabios_1.12.0-1/bios.bin Works
./packaging/focal-seabios_1.13.0-1/bios.bin Breaks

To summarize:
- qemu breaks on chips of the Penryn generation
- it only breaks if the seabios bios is executed
- does not really depend on seabios or qemu version
- but it depends on seabios build environment

[Bug 1866870] Re: KVM Guest pauses after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

2020-03-19 Thread Dr. David Alan Gilbert
That's getting more fun :-)
You could look at whether seabios's config works out hte same in the two
environments, or whether something makes use of new build flags - try looking
at the gcc lines that are invoked in the good/bad cases and see if they're
passing any options that the other doesn't.

[Bug 1765998] Re: FS access deadlock with btrfs quotas enabled

2020-03-19 Thread Dmitrii Shcherbakov
Recently hit that on Focal due to the fact that quotas were enabled by
LXD.

This renders the system completely unresponsive if you use btrfs as a
rootfs with btrfs-transaction or btrfs-cleaner kernel threads hogging a
100% of 1 CPU core.

Booting using a live USB, disabling quotas and temporarily moving
/etc/systemd/system/snap-lxd-* files out helps (followed by `snap
disable lxd` until it gets updated with
https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/7032).

2020-03-19 Thread Vadim Peretokin
1. _usr_bin_gnome-screensaver crashed on the 16th, which is a day before
this report. That crash was uploaded. _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000 also
crashes on the 11th, that was uploaded as well.

2. I've uninstalled everything I could, will see if it happens again. I
just had the freeze happen now while extensions were still installed.

[Bug 1863864] Re: Lenovo e590 laptop hangs when connect to dock station with kernel 5.3.0+

2020-03-19 Thread Adrian
I've got a problem that I believe might be linked. I'm using a Lenvovo
ThinkPad E590 with ubuntu 18.04 kernel 5.3.0-42

Problem arise when using a USB-C dock station with minimal equipment on
it (power, mouse, keyboard).

If I start with the USB-C dock station connected, the system freezes
shortly after boot (only mouse left moving, with everything else frozen,
including keyboard CAPS and NUM lock)

If I allow the system to boot, and THEN connect the dock, then things
seem to work fine.

bionic:

I upgraded from ubuntu8.14 to ubuntu8.14.

type/version before: 114/2 and 6/38
type/version after: 6/38 and 6/38

Looking at dmesg:

before, enabled: "Secure boot enabled"
before, disabled: "Secure boot could not be determined (mode 0)"
after, enabled: "Secure boot enabled"
after, disabled: "Secure boot disabled"

So apparently we booted via EFI stub :)

[Bug 1647285] Re: SSL trust not system-wide

2020-03-19 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Before we switch any software to using p11-kit-trust.so, we need to fix
our ca-certificates package to properly handle untrusted or blacklisted
certificates. At the moment, I believe they are simply skipped when
generating the contents of /usr/share/ca-certificates.

[Bug 1866159] Re: SRU: Use a snap cohort key for consistent parallel builds in Xenial

2020-03-19 Thread Robert C Jennings
This has been verified using 2.408.58 in xenial-proposed.

I have built the qcow2 image target of the ubuntu-cpc project with and
without a cohort key.

I added the following to the qcow2 binary hook:
 . /build/config/binary
 mkdir qcowmp
 mount_disk_image binary/boot/disk-uefi.ext4 qcowmp
 snap_preseed qcowmp/ lxd
 umount_disk_image qcowmp
 rmdir qcowmp

Booting the resulting livecd.ubuntu-cpc.uefi1.img which came out of the
builds with/without the snap cohort key shows that both boot and
'systemctl is-system-running' gets to 'running' (no failed units). The
output of 'snap list' shows lxd and core as expected and 'snap info
--verbose' run against each of the snaps in either image confirms that
the cohort key did not persist into the resulting image as expected.

Based on this testing I will mark the bug as verification-done.

Right, don't bother trying to replace NSS just for this (although
really, having a single version of NSS on the system *would* be nice).

The interface to libnssckbi.so is a standard PKCS#11 library, and it's
perfectly reasonable to replace that in each of
firefox/thunderbird/chromium individually.

=> now it is breaking

One thing that we have seen to cause breakage in other cases was the new
default to enable:
  -fcf-protection

The code already carries quite a bunch of similar "no" rules:
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-nopie,)
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-fno-pie,)
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-fno-stack-protector,)
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-fno-stack-protector-all,)
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-fstack-check=no,)
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-Wno-address-of-packed-member,)

Lets add to that:
COMMONCFLAGS += $(call cc-option,$(CC),-fcf-protection=none,)

=> That made it work \o/ !

[Bug 1868081] [NEW] Strange behaviors in gij-5 (compared to other JVMs)

2020-03-19 Thread Percy
Public bug reported:

We are applying differential testing on four JVMs. We modified class
files in several real-world benchmarks and see the different behaviors
of different JVMs. We had found two possible bugs in gij-5.

For one class file, GIJ-5 reports a ClassFormatError, while other JVMs can run
it successfully.
For the other one, GIJ-5 throws VerifyError while other JVMs can run it
successfully.

Details for reproducing the bug and the class file is posted on
https://github.com/fuzzy000/JVMBugs/tree/master/GIJ-5, we hope that you
can check it out.

** Affects: gcc-5 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I *think* it's the cf-protection that's adding the endbr32 instructions
that I spotted as being the failing instruction each time; but I don't
understand why they would be CPU type specific.

[Bug 1868083] [NEW] gnome-shell process "estabilished"

2020-03-19 Thread Emanuele
Public bug reported:

I opened a discussion on the Ubuntu forum
(https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/gnome-shell-process/14870), not knowing
if it was a bug or if expected, but as recommended I'm reporting the bug
here.

"Hello
I don’t know if it’s a bug, or if it’s the right place to discuss this, in case
you let me know and move on.
Recently a user reported this problem to me, at the first installation of
Ubuntu 20.04 by giving the command “ss -stp” the system is found (checked also
me and I also find it that way) that constantly communicates in" estabilished
“with” 8.43.85.13:https users: ((“gnome-shell”, pid = 3800, fd = 34)) ".
It has no active data diagnostics.
If the process ends, obviously the desktop ends. Do you by any chance know why
gnome-shell activates this process on the system?"

[Bug 1867460] Re: [Focal] 'virsh domcapabilities' fails unless 'virsh capabilites' is run first

2020-03-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Repro is easy, right after install:

root@f-dcap-after-cap:~# virsh domcapabilities
error: failed to get emulator capabilities
error: invalid argument: unable to find any emulator to serve 'x86_64'
architecture

But if you run cap, then dcap works:
$ virsh capabilities
...
$ virsh domcapabilities
... now it works ...

The situation can be re-created on a system later on via:

$ rm /var/cache/libvirt/qemu/capabilities/*.xml
$ systemctl restart libvirtd
$ virsh domcapabilities
error: failed to get emulator capabilities
error: invalid argument: unable to find any emulator to serve 'x86_64'
architecture
