[Bug 1871248] Re: amdgpu kernel errors in Linux 5.4

2020-04-09 Thread Kirt Runolfson
This kernel silences those errors/warnings nicely. Good find and thank
you! So nice not to have it dump 8 blocks of warnings that look like
errors.

Is it possible to have that patch backported into the 5.4 series going
forward? I would guess that most users that can read kernel messages are
going to be a bit alarmed by those.

Re: [Bug 1870550] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2020-04-09 Thread Eric Paul
Hey,
Sorry I attempted to paste that into the command line and its saying this:
I did, however, manage to remove "snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0", from the
grub.conf (again removing this didn't help)
I've attached the updated dmesg for this.

[Bug 1871998] [NEW] Netboot images for 20.04 Beta missing

2020-04-09 Thread lerxst via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

20.04 Beta release announcement
(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2020-April/000255.html)

It was announced that the netboot images for 20.04 (focal) Beta release
are available from the following location for testing:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/netboot/20.04/

However, the above link throws a 404 error. Although this is not an
issue with this package, but it's preventing this package from being
tested during the 20.04 beta phase, therefore, I'm submitting this bug
against this package.

Please fix... Thank you!

causes the machine "to boot twice". What exactly are you seeing?

And from the information attached to your bug report:

> GrubDiff: Binary files /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi and
/usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi-signed/grubx64.efi.signed differ

Why does the grubx64.efi in your ESP not match the one provided by the
grub-efi-amd64-signed package that you have installed?

[Bug 1871992] [NEW] package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.139+2.04-1ubuntu24 failed to install/upgrade: Hyper-V VM Type 2 with Secure Boot with EFI password

2020-04-09 Thread Donovan Finch
Public bug reported:

Hyper-V VM type 2 with the Secure Boot with EFI signing password.
Installed using the GUI installer, setting the EFI password when prompted.

System boots fine.

On 'apt upgrade', new grub2-signed post-install script didn't prompt for
the password, that may be what went wrong.

No, as already said, refresh-app-awareness doesn't work as a solution. I

[Bug 1871989] [NEW] dpkg: error processing package grub-efi-amd64-signed (--configure):

2020-04-09 Thread Brett Bogert
Public bug reported:

Upon updates on 20200409 I encountered the following error:

Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.139+2.04-1ubuntu24) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-efi-amd64-signed.postinst: 23: Syntax error: word unexpe
cted (expecting ")")
dpkg: error processing package grub-efi-amd64-signed (--configure):
installed grub-efi-amd64-signed package post-installation script subprocess ret
urned error exit status 2

The problem is being caused by a syntax error in grub-efi-amd64-signed.postint
at line 23.

Problematic code:

case $1 in
configure)
target=x86_64-efi ;;
# Check /boot/grub to see if we previously installed to an ESP. We don't
# want to trigger the install code just by installing the package,
# normally the installer installs grub itself first.
if test -e /boot/grub/$target/core.efi; then
/usr/share/grub/grub-check-signatures
/usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install --target=$target
fi

;;
esac

Corrected code:

case $1 in
configure)
target=x86_64-efi
# Check /boot/grub to see if we previously installed to an ESP. We don't
# want to trigger the install code just by installing the package,
# normally the installer installs grub itself first.
if test -e /boot/grub/$target/core.efi; then
/usr/share/grub/grub-check-signatures
/usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install --target=$target
fi

;;
esac

Problem was found and fixed using shellcheck and geany IDE.

I changed the code re-ran the upgrade command verified the
boot partition via the dialog and rebooted and it worked
fine.

Thanks,
Brett "WolfMan" Bogert

[Bug 1871986] [NEW] Wslusc shortcut not working

2020-04-09 Thread Patrick Wu
Public bug reported:

Upstream bug reported: https://github.com/wslutilities/wslu/issues/110

**Background Information:**

WSL: Ubuntu 18.04
Version: 2.3.2-0ubuntu2~18.04.3
When creating a Win shortcut for a GUI Linux program I end up with a shortcut
that is not working.

**To Reproduce**
wslusc --gui pycharm.sh

This results in a shortcut with the following target:

C:\Windows\System32\wscript.exe C:\Users\Marco
Brieden\wslu\runHidden.vbs C:\Users\Marco
Brieden\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu18.04onWindows_79rhkp1fndgsc\ubuntu1804.exe
run "cd ~; . /usr/share/wslu/wsl-integration

When opened it gives this error:
"There is no file extension in "C:\Users\Marco"

**Additional context**
It looks like there are two separate issues:

1. The space in my username breaks the shortcut.
2. The max length of the "target" field has been exceeded and the command got
cut off.

@cpollock: I don't think this is invalid. This is a very poor error

only because of your last update that I realised that I had incorrect

[Bug 1871977] [NEW] g_ether not working after reboot

2020-04-09 Thread Enoch Leung
Public bug reported:

There is an issue with g_ether after warm reboot.

Hardware I used for testing:

Thinkpad L470 + Dock, Ubuntu 19.10
USB 3.0 "A male-plug Y-cable" + USB-A to USB-C adapter
Pi4 4GB powered by Y-cable connecting to dock and separate USB PSU, Ubuntu 19.10

==
it seems like whenever I reboot my Pi, USB gadget port is not detected. How to
reproduce:

1) make sure g_ether works on Pi 4
2) make sure cdc_ether works on L470, as in dmesg it shows...
[112961.147030] usb 1-3.2: new high-speed USB device number 11 using xhci_hcd
[112961.237399] usb 1-3.2: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=0301,
bcdDevice= 5.03
[112961.237406] usb 1-3.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=3
[112961.237411] usb 1-3.2: Product: USB Adapter
[112961.237414] usb 1-3.2: Manufacturer: Raspberry Pi
[112961.237418] usb 1-3.2: SerialNumber: ***MASKED***
[112961.245067] cdc_ether 1-3.2:1.0 eth1: register 'cdc_ether' at
usb-:00:14.0-3.2, CDC Ethernet Device, ***MASKED***
3) verify IP connectivity works from L470 to Pi 4.
4) reboot Pi 4; on L470 it shows:
[113343.783925] usb 1-3.2: USB disconnect, device number 11
[113343.784164] cdc_ether 1-3.2:1.0 eth1: unregister 'cdc_ether'
usb-:00:14.0-3.2, CDC Ethernet Device
5) wait for Pi 4 to become available (I use wifi on Pi 4 + ssh on L470)
==

Expected: Pi4 should show up to L470 as USB ethernet gadget after warm reboot
Actual: g_ether is loaded on Pi4 but L470 does not detect it
Workaround: unplug Pi4 and plug in again, it will work; given that I am using
Y-cable, unplugging will not power down Pi 4.
Concern: lose connectivity that needs human intervention to correct, i.e.
cannot do it remotely.

Note: I remember it is detected okay before I file for bug #1861070, not
sure if it is related or not. using g_cdc should be the same, but not
separately tested.

[Bug 1867916] Re: Regression in kernel 4.15.0-91 causes kernel panic with Bcache

2020-04-09 Thread Ryan Finnie via ubuntu-bugs
I've bisected the problem down to commit
c35a4a858d0616e7817026d88f377c7201ad449a ("block: fix an integer
overflow in logical block size", upstream
ad6bf88a6c19a39fb3b0045d78ea880325dfcf15).

I don't know what the exact problem is with the commit, but seems to be
in the area of fs/block_dev.c set_init_blocksize() calling
bdev_logical_block_size() which the offending commit touches.

[Bug 1871972] Re: Update pango for Unicode 13.0

2020-04-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

Unicode 13 was released a month ago. The Pango library needs to be
updated for the new emoji sequences for emoji that are implemented by
multiple emoji in sequence to appear as a single character instead of as
  separate parts. For instance, https://emojipedia.org/black-cat/
+
+ Pango is used by many apps (particularly GTK apps) to display emoji.

By doing this update for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS now, it will be easier to get
full Unicode 13 support once Ubuntu's color emoji font (fonts-noto-
color-emoji) is released with Unicode 13 support in a few months.

I don't believe a freeze exception is necessary for this improvement
  now.
