[Bug 1880368] [NEW] do-release-upgrade doesn't always open a window

2020-05-24 Thread Emersion
Public bug reported:

1. Open the update manager
2. Click "Upgrade"
3. do-release-upgrade is launched but exits immediately without showing any
window

What happened is that do-release-upgrade prints an error message to the
console. However the message is not displayed in a window. For end-users
this is very surprising.

Instead, do-release-upgrade should always print error messages in a GTK
window.

[Bug 1876731] Re: [SRU] Update to 3.36.3

2020-05-24 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
Looks like only unverified/untested thing at this point is
clipboard/screenshot problem. Tested this myself in VM. With
3.36.3-0ubuntu1 I can not reproduce problem. Also tested ability to
disable animations.

[Bug 1880380] Re: Failing to shutdown/power off or reboot on AMD Ryzen CPUs on kernel versions 5.3.0-52 and later

2020-05-24 Thread Yosha872
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1880041 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880041

** Description changed:

  Note: I open this bug in order to try to report more infos with the
  command: apport-collect 1880380

  When booting up Ubuntu 18.04 with a kernel version of 5.3.0-52 or later
  (including 5.3.0-53), everything seems to be working as usual. However,
  when I shutdown, the system will only soft shutdown, with the CPU still
  running at full power, forcing me to hold down the power button to fully
  power off affected systems. If I reboot, it will cause the system to
  hang and not respond. Either way, a hard reset or poweroff will be
  required, and this is not an option for systems being remotely accessed.
  It is not possible for me to collect kernel logs at this point, unless
  something wrong is happening in those kernel versions before the actual
  shutdown.

  It worked until mid may 2020. OS: Xubuntu 18.04.4 (amd64), CPU: AMD
- Ryzen 3500G, motherboard: Asrock A320M-HDV r4.0
+ Ryzen 3400G, motherboard: Asrock A320M-HDV r4.0

[Bug 1877889] Re: Intermittent hangs on boot Ubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo E595

2020-05-24 Thread pauldoo
I'm afraid to report that I experienced a hang on boot today, using the
drm-tip kernel ("5.7.0-994.202005192206"). This time the hang occurred
before the LUKS password prompt to unlock the root filesystem. There
was a message printed to the screen, which I will attach shortly.

I was able to reboot with SysRq SUSB sequence and the laptop booted fine
next time.

[Bug 1872001] Re: 5.3.0-46-generic - i915 - frequent GPU hangs / resets rcs0

2020-05-24 Thread jt
Since Linux X 5.3.0-53-generic it seems that I don't experience the hangs any
more, but idle power consumption severely degraded: 5.3.0-51 uses 2/3 of the
power that ..-53 uses. It's also worse than on 4.15.

[Bug 1880369] [NEW] Please install all available updates

2020-05-24 Thread Emersion
Public bug reported:

1. Open update manager
2. Update manager prompts for regular updates, perform them
3. Update manager now prompts for dist upgrade, click "Upgrade"
4. do-release-upgrade is launched
5. Error message is printed: "Please install all available updates for your
release before upgrading"

However, doing `sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade` isn't enough. In
fact, `sudo apt upgrade` says an upgrade for libc++1 is available but
won't be installed. Manually installing libc++1 un-breaks do-release-
upgrade.

do-release-upgrade shouldn't block on such "update available but won't
be upgraded" packages.

Thank you so much. I was not yet able to investigate the crash (it

[Bug 1880041] Re: Failing to shutdown/power off or reboot on AMD Ryzen CPUs on kernel versions 5.3.0-52 and later

2020-05-24 Thread Mark Doone
I am having the same issue, reverting to 5.3.0-51 resolves the problem
for me. I am on an Intel 5930k CPU on an X99 motherboard however.
Running the apport-collect command suggested above did not collect or
send further details to this bug because I am not the original creator.

2020-05-24 Thread Arthur Borsboom
Do I understand it correct that both Xpad 5.0 and 5.4 have the same issue
and is unrelated to the PopOS upgrade, since the issue is in both PopOS
versions with both Xpad versions?

[Bug 1880380] [NEW] Failing to shutdown/power off or reboot on AMD Ryzen CPUs on kernel versions 5.3.0-52 and later

2020-05-24 Thread Yosha872
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1880041 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880041

Public bug reported:

Ryzen 3500G, motherboard: Asrock A320M-HDV r4.0

[Bug 1840725] Re: Microphone not working in Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS on new hp-spectre-x360-convertible-15 laptop

2020-05-24 Thread Anton Okhotnikov
Had a similar problem with Lenovo S740 (Ubuntu 18.04, 19.10 and 20.04).
Tried different combinations in alsa-base.conf, hda-jack-retask -
nothing worked.

And then surprisingly this thread helped (see
https://gist.github.com/hamidzr/dd81e429dc86f4327ded7a2030e7d7d9#gistcomment-3315737
).

What I've done is I appended next two lines to /etc/pulse/default.pa:

# /etc/pulse/default.pa
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,0 channels=2  # note that I used 2 here
load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:0,6 channels=2
```
For those of you having problems in Ubuntu 20.04 with Realtek ALC285
this could be a solution.
[Bug 1878670] Re: Reproduceable i915 gpu hang Intel Iris Plus Graphics (Ice Lake 8x8 GT2)
2020-05-24 Thread Gilbertf
Today when booting the laptop from OFF i went up to the login screen.
Typed the password, then screen went black. I could still dim up/down the keys,
but screen remained black. I had to keep power pressed and boot several times,
still getting a black screen. The only thing that worked was to unplugg the
power source, turn it on. After the login, I went up to the desktop.
If I check the kern.log it's filled with the same
hsw_wait_for_power_well_enable stuff in loop.
Nothing in /var/crash
[Bug 1880388] [NEW] rpi3b becomes unresponsive after closing a program
2020-05-24 Thread RJ
Public bug reported:
I am running ROS2 on this raspberry pi 3B. After "bringing the robot up"
I open a new shell in tmux, and run `ros2 topic echo battery_state`
which starts outputting ROS2 messages to the terminal. Upon ctrl+c'ing
out of this, the system become unresponsive. I connected to the serial
console and captured the error messages that are being output.
Issue I rose on github:
system is slow in boot with frequent issue showing up again. Re-
installed grub to latest version, made changes in /etc/default/grub to
boot fast with "nomodeset quiet splash" but again it boot slow. when
it's logged in at frequently interval the menu box, screen hang with
black screen. updated all the files and wanted to upgrade to 18.04.4
which it does not allow after following all options online with the
related issue. Previously had installed twice with 16.04.6 with
following upgrade to 18.04.4 but system don't boot with issue coming up
at various stage. It's a sophisticated bug & make system venerable at
every stage to come up with issues to stop functioning properly. Kernel
issue with unsigned image, software update & hardware issue pulling up
at frequent interval. Present installed system does not have kernel
issue but bug creating problem in its own way. Changes made does not
[Bug 1880390] [NEW] Package is not available in focal (20.04)
2020-05-24 Thread Andrew Hayzen
Public bug reported:
gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock is not in the focal repositories (it is
in eoan and groovy).
I believe this was because the extension didn't have fixes in Debian in
time for the release, would it be possible to add it back to the archive
as it breaks automated scripts and is confusing having such a popular
extension missing.
[Bug 1879649] Re: Since I upddated to Ubuntu 20.04 my HP printer doesn't print
2020-05-24 Thread typos1
I have the same issue, unable to print using an HP DeskJet3720 since
upgrading to 20.04, none of the HP apps open - the icons appear but
nothing happens. I tried the advice in the above two posts and it made
no difference. I ve tried older versions of HPLIP still no joy.
When reinstalling using the command given in post #4 I was asked to use
current config or the standard one (or manufacturers cant remember the
actual term) I chose my current config, tried the command again (in
order to pick the other option) but I dont get the same prompt.
[Bug 1775717] Re: CPU/GPU Fans suddenly go 100% RPM on Asus ROG G752VT
2020-05-24 Thread Sergey Ivanov
Also tried to gather powertop-related issues for further analysis,
however, wasn't able to do it completely:
1) Firstly I enabled next startup option:
dyndbg="file ec.c +p ; drivers/pci/* +p". I added ACPI's ec as it might be
fault reason as well. At least for some models, EmbeddedControl includes a
table for fan temperatures as, for example,
implemented in https://github.com/dominiksalvet/asus-fan-control
Kernel messages could be found in dmesg_startup during the startup of the
system.
2) Before gathering data via powertop I tried to emulate maximal speed. For me
it happens when I
try to editing something or opening video in the browser. dmesg_change_speed
gathered for this case.
3) Finally, I tried to run powertop and... my keyboard was stuck. It happens in
100% of cases. So, what I did I run next cmd:
powertop --auto-tune 2> powertop_start_err > powertop_start_out && sleep
5 && dmesg > dmesg_powertop
rebooted and attached both powertop_start_err  and powertop_start_out. No need
to attach dmesg_powertop as it always empty. Seems accordingly to
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1131279/powertop-cpufreq-stats-failed-and-devfreq-not-enabled-running-auto-tone
powertop is not an appropriate utility for notebooks. Please, suggest something
else.
==
My conclusion so far seems it related somehow to ACPI float regions that
somehow overlap with other devices.
P.S. find my system-related info for my ASUS G752VL in latest comments of
[Bug 1880381] Re: No full shutdown 5.3.0-53
2020-05-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.  It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it.  You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.
To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1880381/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.
[This is an automated message.  I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.  Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware.  I recommend
[Bug 1880409] [NEW] Prompting for change to sshd_config might cause lock-out from upgrade process
2020-05-24 Thread T Jeske
Public bug reported:
Upgrading to a new release is often done with do-release-upgrade. If you
do this via SSH, this probably runs in a dedicated "screen" session. At
some point you might be asked to replace your current "sshd_config" with
the package maintainer's one. While sitting at this prompt, you can't
open a new SSH connection to your machine.
If you let the upgrade run in the background from a remote pc, you might
lose connection in the meantime. If the upgrade reaches this prompt, you
will not be able to log in and resume your upgrade with SSH, as sshd
won't accept connections. The port is opened and you can connect, but
sshd will immediately close the connection, without even prompting for
credentials.
If you have no other means but SSH to access your server (e.g. headless
vps), you won't be able to login again and might be forced to a
reinstallation (or some other form of recovery operation).
20.04) and Firefox 76 (latest version).
If geo.provider.network.url is set to the Google service then it doesn't
work, but the mozilla one does. If you download Firefox from mozilla
then geolocation with Google works fine, so it must be an issue with the
version provided by Canonical/Ubuntu.
[Bug 1880394] [NEW] lubuntu 20.10 iso language selection screen unusable
2020-05-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:
Lubuntu 20.10 QA-test
On booting I see a nice Lubuntu logo on top half of screen, below in
bottom left corner is the language select, none of which are readable.
As I use english I need only wait or press enter, but I'd be lost if I
needed another language
[Bug 1880394] Re: lubuntu 20.10 iso language selection screen unreadable
2020-05-24 Thread Rik Mills
This is also seen on Kubuntu and Xubuntu Groovy daily ISOs pressing any
key on boot to enter the syslinux menu. On those ISO language selection
box has to be invoked with F2, but the messed up screen still happens,
so seems a more general syslinux menu issue.
  * Bump priority of libnss-systemd to standard
  * logind: avoid shadow lookups when doing userdb client side
  * Disable DNSSEC support by default in resolved.
The upstream default, DNSSEC=allow-downgrade can lead to compatibility
issues with certain network access points. Previously, DNSSEC support
was only turned off when built for a stable Debian release, but it is
safer and more consistent to just generally change the default to
DNSSEC=no. (Closes: #959996)
  * Bump debhelper compatibility level to 13.
Use the debhelper-compat package to declare the compatibility level and
drop debian/compat.
  * Convert to dh_installsystemd and disable dh_installsystemduser
Now handled by dh_installinitramfs which is enabled by default in compat
[Bug 1880404] [NEW] graphic app list does not scroll/scrolls partly with touchpad
2020-05-24 Thread mc
Public bug reported:
I have just upgraded to 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa GNOME version 3.36.2 and
now experiencing some (minor) issues.
When entering the app list (through the graphic button on the edge of
the dock) and trying scrolling through my apps using the touchpad,
scrolling is either not working or works partly - i.e i'm being able to
move only between the first two pages. If moving to a different page by
clicking the dots to the right side (say page 3 or 4), scrolling is
locked.
Interestingly, scrolling works fine when using my mouse wheel, and
depending on what page i'm ending up in, trying to use touchpad
afterwards allows me to scroll through the 3 pages - the one i started
in, the previous one, the one after.
I'm certain my touchpad is not damaged, as it works as usual when
browsing the net with several browsers.
I used to have this problem as well back in 18.04:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1694373
and it seemed like the scrolling response improved majorly in the sense that
gradual scrolling is now possible, making the experience more fluid than it
used to be.
