[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic
I got doko to have a quick look (as he is unavailable atm) which seemed ok. This was mostly to hear from him if this was an overall horrendous idea (it isn't) and not to check every line, so this should be ok as-is then. Further as stated above all other pre-checks against the PPA are good as well. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1884865/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1878340] Re: Backing device unattaches from caching device when hibernating into a swap file

[Bug 1878340] Re: Backing device unattaches from caching device when hibernating into a swap file
>From looking deeper into this issue and reading the FAQ on the bcache site, this appears to be a catch 22 issue. During resume, you are not allowed to make any changes to the disk. However, with bcache, this can be tricky: any read you make from a bcache device could result in a write to update the caching device. Currently bcache has no good ways of solving this. This means resume must finish before bcache starts. However, if the resume image is on the bcache backing device, the image must be accessed first. Using resume_offset to use the swap file on the backing device must be updating the caching device, and subsequently causing data loss. If I have reached the correct conclusion from the data loss that occured on my system and the limitation listed on the bcache FAQ, then that means swap files are not supported on bcache period. With that in mind, bcache should not allow hibernation to occur using swap files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878340 Title: Backing device unattaches from caching device when hibernating into a swap file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bcache-tools/+bug/1878340/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1881942] Re: default configuration forwards sshd failures to port 7070
Hi John, I'm not sure what's happened here, but the default /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf contains no such snippet (a pristine copy is also stored in /usr/share/rsyslog/50-default.conf) and is managed via ucf. The contents of a pristine version are attached. Either another package you have installed has modified this config file (and looking at the failban package and postinstall script, I don't see anything there that would add anything like that. Doing a limited google search on the comment string "# Transform and forward data" turned up this recipe: https://devconnected.com /geolocating-ssh-hackers-in-real-time/ ; is it possible that this was added as part of a recipe you were following? [Bug 1874933] Re: Performance workaround for Dell 7390 2-in-1 Ice Lake
I've added the testcase to the bug description. That seems like a sensible enough reproducer. ** Description changed: == SRU justification focal == As reported here: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/linux-graphics-x-org-drivers/intel-linux/1174225-dell-xps-7390-intel-ice-lake-performance-hit-hard-by-a-linux-kernel-regression?view=stream This primarily impacts "Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)." as it switched to 5.4 kernel. The 5.4 kernel added support for "Processor thermal device", for Ice Lake, which will expose the power tables (via PPCC). This system default "max RAPL long term power limit" is 15W. But this power table is specifying as 9W. So thermald will limit power to 9W. If dptfxtract is executed, then power limit will be higher than power up value, but most of the users will use out of the box setup. So this need a workaround. This workaround will ignore any power limit less than the power up power limit. This is addressed in thermald 2.1 with two commits: https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/commit/f7db434293387c965e8d9141608f855893740e3a https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/commit/c3461690eafb7304bf59a39fb02955a5154b3861 I know 20.04 LTS uses 1.9.1. I can assist in backport if required. == Fix == Two upstream commits to ease backporting: - eeadf7d2efe Restore to min state on deactivation without depending on hardware state - 9a6dc27879a Clean up the code and documentation Two upstream commits for the fix: - f7db4342933 Avoid polling power in non PPCC case - c3461690eaf Ignore invalid PPCC max power limit == Test case == - As reported here: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/linux-graphics-x - -org-drivers/intel-linux/1174225-dell-xps-7390-intel-ice-lake- - performance-hit-hard-by-a-linux-kernel-regression?view=stream + Open two terminals: + -In the first terminal run the following command: +"sudo turbostat --show PkgWatt" + -In the second terminal run some all CPU busy workload, like stress-ng or mprime + + After few seconds turbostat will show that power is capped around 9W. + + Install the updated thermald, and repeat. + + Now with this fix the power should be capped around 15W. == Regression Potential == This fix involves changing the power limits logic so there is a potential that this may affect change the throttling behaviour of other systems with poorly defined PPCC power tables because it now ignores the power limits less than the power up limits. Users will see their machines run faster and hence active cooling may crank up (e.g. fans) but I think the speed improvement outweighs the noise factor. Note that these changes are already in thermald 2.1 that is now in Ubuntu Groovy 20.10. --- ** Changed in: thermald (Ubuntu Focal) Status: Incomplete => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874933 Title: Performance workaround for Dell 7390 2-in-1 Ice Lake To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thermald/+bug/1874933/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878721] Re: memcached looks for SASL configuration at wrong path /etc/sasl2/memcached.conf/memcached.conf (18.04→20.04 regression)
This bug was fixed in the package memcached - 1.5.22-2ubuntu0.1 --- memcached (1.5.22-2ubuntu0.1) focal; urgency=medium * d/p/fix-bug-where-sasl-will-load-config-the-wrong-path.patch: Fix the path from which SASL configuration is loaded. (LP: #1878721) The bug happened because sasl expects memcached to provide a path (i.e., a directory, not a filename) where the sasl configuration file(s) is (are). However, memcached was passing the filename (/etc/sasl2/memcached.conf) to sasl, which was interpreting it as a directory, and looking for a configuration file inside it (i.e., /etc/sasl2/memcached.conf/memcached.conf). Users could workaround this bug by creating a directory named /etc/sasl2/memcached.conf/, and putting the configuration file inside it.
