All Ubuntu version after the 18.04.2 version (18.04.4 is the newest image) has
an updated version of PCI IDS database. So, we can close this issue.

[Bug 1886230] [NEW] Thinkpad P1 Gen2 HDMI doesn't work after log out or reboot

2020-07-03 Thread Alex Cabal
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad P1 Gen 2. This specific machine was customized to NOT
have a discrete Nvidia GPU. It ONLY has an integrated Intel UHD 630 GPU.

This is not a hardware issue as Windows seems to handle things
correctly.

With an external monitor connected via HDMI, boot proceeds OK with the
external monitor displaying the boot process.

I log in to a Gnome session using X.

After login, I am able to open the display settings GUI and set mode to
"single display" with the built-in LCD disabled and the external monitor
enabled. This works correctly.

However, if I then reboot the machine with the external monitor
connected:

1. Boot proceeds correctly with the boot process shown on the external
monitor.

2. After login, the external monitor is powered off and the built-in LCD
is enabled. The "display settings" GUI shows the external monitor as a
connected "Unknown Display" with the wrong resolution of 1024x768.
Attempting to use the GUI to set "single display" as above results in
the external monitor still being powered off, and the built-in LCD also
powered off. I have to press esc to cancel the display changes.

At this point, the relevant output of `xrandr` is:

DP1 connected 1024x768+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm
x 340mm
   1024x768  60.00*
   800x600   60.3256.25
   848x480   60.00
   640x480   59.94

DP1 is the HDMI output, and it is listed at the wrong resolutions.

If I disconnect the HDMI cable then run `xrandr` again, the output of
`xrandr` is unchanged: it still lists DP1 as connected (!) even though
the cable is disconnected.

This bug also occurs if instead of rebooting, I simply log out and log
back in again.

The only solution appears to be to unplug the HDMI cable, shut down the
machine (not reboot or log out), power on, log in, and at the desktop
plug in the HDMI cable. At that point it works again.

Rebooting does not solve the issue. It seems that a complete shutdown is
required.

I tested on Ubuntu 20.04's stock kernel 5.4.0 and also kernel 5.7.7 and
the issue is present on both versions.

[Bug 1886211] [NEW] Auto-complete for grub-reboot provides invalid options, most of which fail silently

2020-07-03 Thread Ricardo Abreu
Public bug reported:

Hitting tab on `grub-reboot` gives:

```
$ grub-reboot [tab]
--id
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-108-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-109-generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-109-generic (recovery mode)
```

But

```
$ grub-reboot --id
Unrecognized option `--id'
[...]
```

And the menu items starting with "Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-" are
actually in the submenu "Advanced options for Ubuntu". So, saying `grub-
reboot "Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-108-generic", does not have the
desired effect. One needs to say instead `grub-reboot "Advanced options

Additionally, `grub-reboot` accepts those and other meaningless
parameters without complaint:

[Bug 1886080] Re: lxd cloud_tests fail to export images on latest/stable

2020-07-03 Thread Paride Legovini
I think `lxd image export` is still able to produce the usual files, but
it stopped accepting a directory as a target (I'll file a bug, let's
see). So a different fix could be changing directory to output_dir and
then running `lxc image export`. I think subp() doesn't support changing
directories, but this could be done with a `sh -c` or something.

[Bug 1867424] Re: motd-news transmitting private hardware data without consent or knowledge in background

2020-07-03 Thread Guy Baconniere
https://news.softpedia.com/news/canonical-under-fire-for-putting-ads-in-the-ubuntu-motd-530372.shtml

Article like "Canonical Under Fire for Putting Ads in the Ubuntu MOTD"
miss the point that motd-news is not only displaying Advertising in the login
prompt but it a Privacy Nightmare because it has an hidden Telemetry feature
which is enabled by default Without Consent and leak IP Address, System
critical informations (Kernel Version, Uptime, CPU Vendor, CPU Model, Idle
Time, Uptime) every 12 hours via User-Agent from curl on all Ubuntu Desktop and
Ubuntu Server including the current version of Ubuntu.

On top of that, motd-news is also a security nightmare as it runs curl
as root which can be exploited to gain root on any servers, laptops etc.

I recommend that all Ubuntu users open a Terminal and execute the
following

sudo sed -i -r 's/(ENABLED)=.+/\1=0/' /etc/default/motd-news
sudo apt-get -qq -y purge curl

N.B. curl is not installed if you explicitly select Ubuntu Minimal
during the installation of Ubuntu Desktop so motd-news cannot contact
motd.ubuntu.com without curl even if ENABLED=1 by default

[Bug 1886226] [NEW] Updater crashes with 19.10 upgrade attempt

2020-07-03 Thread JoeS
Public bug reported:

Third party sources disabled

Some third party entries in your sources.list were disabled. You can re-
enable them after the upgrade with the 'software-properties' tool or
your package manager.

Invalid package information

After updating your package information, the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal'
could not be located. This may be because you have no official mirrors listed
in your software sources, or because of excessive load on the mirror you are
using. See /etc/apt/sources.list for the current list of configured software
sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade again
later.

2020-07-03 Thread guenthert
2.3.1-2.1ubuntu4 is the version of libseccomp2 which is available, i.e.
$ sudo apt install libseccomp2=2.3.1-2.1ubuntu4
succeeds. That allowed me to uncomment, i.e. enable, the SystemCallFilter in
/lib/systemd/system/systemd-resolved.service again and reboot successfully.

[Bug 1825963] Re: Abysmal memory leak on tracker-extract

2020-07-03 Thread F S
I get the same error as Alex, but for TGA files:

```
tracker-extract[13828]: Call to
stream error.
```

The error only occurs with certain TGAs, I shall attaching one below.

My current workaround is to add '*.tga' to
"/org/freedesktop/tracker/miner/files/ignored-files" in `dconf-editor`.

[Bug 1886215] [NEW] Strange Apple keyboard behaviour (Spanish layout)

2020-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have an Apple Aluminium keyboard with Spanish/Castillian layout
connected to my laptop:

lsusb output:

...
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 05ac:0221 Apple, Inc. Aluminum Keyboard (ISO)
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 05ac:1006 Apple, Inc. Hub in Aluminum Keyboard
...

I'm running Focal:

cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=20.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=focal
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 20.04 LTS"

I want to enable the regular Spanish keyboard layout for the laptop's
internal keyboard and the Macintosh layout for the Apple Aluminum
keyboard.

When I press the key to the left of 'z' which should be '<' and I have
the layout, I see the right key being highlighted but I get 'º' on the
terminal

Likewise, when I press the key to the left of '1', I see it correctly
highlighted but I get a '<' instead of a 'º'

[Bug 1877038]

2020-07-03 Thread Jaromir Talir
Any update on this? We are using FIDO MDS to verify attestations and
only get useless fido-u2f type attestation statement (no aaguids
included) with Firefox on Linux. This works fine in Chrome. I believe
it's related to this issue. The situation forces us to put disclaimer on
our service: "Do not use Firefox for FIDO2 token registrations". It
makes me sad since Firefox has always been my favourite browser. Hope
this will move forward.

[Bug 1886229] [NEW] Clicking "Install" with .deb gives no response when APT in use

2020-07-03 Thread Noor Muhammad Malik
Public bug reported:

The problem description

If I open up a .deb file to install the package, it opens up the gnome-software
GUI window, with the install button.
If the package manager APT is in use somewhere, either you left an "apt
upgrade" running in the background, or there's some APT process running in the
background, meaning that the lock is acquired by another process, clicking on
the "install" button will do nothing. It will get stuck on a random % of
progress and then just do nothing, no installations, no errors.
If you let all the APTs finish, or kill existing processes to release the lock,
the install button works fine.

What I expected to happen:
==
I expected it to check for a running instance of the package manager, check if
the lock is free and then generate a pop-up/dialogue-box telling me that the
package manager is in use, instead of randomly misbehaving with no output,
which is bad user experience.

I'd recently encountered this bug and it was very frustrating for quite
a while until I figured out why it was happening and wanted to report
it.

+ After a fresh install on 16.04 the symbolic link
/usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js points a broken link. it *should*
point to ../../../javascript/raphael/raphael-min.js
+
+ [Test Case]
+ $ sudo apt update
+ $ sudo apt install nzbget
+
+ * Check broken symlink:
+ $ ls -la --color /usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Feb 17  2016
/usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js ->
../../../javascript/raphael/raphael.min.js
+
+ $ ls -laH /usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js
+ ls: cannot access '/usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js': No such file
or directory
+
+ * Update and check again:
+ $ ls -laH /usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js
+ -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 94617 Jul  3 21:08
/usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This changes a filename so that the nzbget symlink points to an actual file.
For backwards compatibility, we also make the incorrect raphael-min.js file
available as another symlink, for users who might have changed nzbget to point
at that. In other words, this updated raphaeljs package provildes both
raphael-min.js and raphael.min.js.
+
+ If someone already created a raphael.min.js file, then installing the
+ updated libjs-raphael would conflict with that and dpkg would
+ complain/fail.
+
+
+ [Other Info]
+ Not at this time.
+
+
+ [Original Description]
+ After a fresh install on 16.04 the symbolic link
/usr/share/nzbget/webui/lib/raphael.min.js points a broken link. it *should*
point to ../../../javascript/raphael/raphael-min.js

  also, the default conf file /usr/share/nzbget/webui/nzbget.conf does not
  have certain required settings set like WebDir and ConfigTemplate

  also, this can be used as the systemd file
  /etc/systemd/system/nzbget.service

2020-07-03 Thread chris pollock
Ref bug #1886110, I submitted this because after almost 2yrs this issue
is still valid, at least on my Ubuntu 18.04LTS. I'm commenting here
because I was asked to on my other report. According to comments made
here - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/501, the last
one by Marco Trevisan a commit was made a year ago to fix this issue -
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/commit/a9234f7631f2228184d027419cab1350666ffdc1 therefore I'm
wondering why it's not been fixed, at least in my case.

[Bug 1876697] Re: test_regression_testsuite from ubuntu_qrt_apparmor failed on Focal zVM / B-GCP-5.4

So, B-GCP-5.4 as well as F-GCP 5.4.0-1011 have RT_GROUP_SCHED on, and
that has been turned off by later versions, like F-GCP 5.4.0-1012 and

@cypressyew, can you confirm that it doesn't happen on such kernels?

[Bug 1878225] Re: Please remove lxd.snap from lxd images, as it fails to seed thus failing the first boot - snapd.seeded.service waits forever (?) to have snaps seeded in LXD on s390x and arm64

2020-07-03 Thread Balint Reczey
@stgraber The "weird adt environment" is the autopkgtest infra we use
for gating packages to prevent regressions sneaking in to the release
pocket. LXD is not a .deb package but a snap so we can't gate
regressions as part of the standard Ubuntu classic process, but at the
moment it is somehow part of the snaps installed on images by default.

The reason for adding the tests-in-lxd test to systemd is to ensure that
new systemd versions work well running LXD and being installed in LXD
container at the same time. Upstream changes frequently introduce LXC
specific minor regressions thus I believe this test helps making the
user experience better.

If you see something in the aforementioned new test that is not expected
to work, please state that. Otherwise please triage the failure that we
are observing consistently on the autopkgtest infra.

The easiest way of reproducing the problem is clicking on the "♻" links on this
page:
http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/systemd/groovy/amd64

I agree with @xnox that snapd.seeding must not block boot indefinitely
and I also believe that snap upstreams (LXD here) most ensure fixing
problems affecting Ubuntu classic to have the privilege of being seeded
on images.

Shipping LXD as a .deb would also resolve the problem it is causing here
by being a snap to be seeded inside the LXC container and the
autopkgtest infra could gate LXD regressions again.

[Bug 1153771] Re: SyntaxWarning during installation

2020-07-03 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I took a new look at this. When installing python-scitools on Ubuntu
16.04 I don't see any such warnings in the log. Doesn't seem to be
specifically mentioned in the changelog for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scitools/0.9.0-2 , but looks
like this fixed it somehow. Thus marking it as Fixed now.

[Bug 1874831] Re: libnginx-mod-nchan distributes old/incompatible module

2020-07-03 Thread Thomas Ward
I had to wait for this merge to be complete before I could consider
moving forward.

Given that the issues filed on the Salsa page may not be present, I will
contact the Debian maintainer directly and see if they're aware of this
issue. If they can fix it in Debian and make it available, we can just
merge from Debian and get the fix.
