[Bug 1890533] Re: Overview stuttering with 3K & Intel
Not yet, but the good news is it's coming soon: https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointThirtyseven And should be in Ubuntu 20.10 soon after that. Also note your log is still mentioning errors from: /home/carlos/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/clipboard- indica...@tudmotu.com/... [Bug 1889784]
[Tracking Requested - why for this release]: This regression affects: * MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 users with Firefox 79, * MOZ_X11_EGL=1 and MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 users with Firefox 80. Everyone is excited that Firefox 80 finally supports VAAPI hardware decoding on X11, it got news coverage, etc., but those who tested it know that it suffers from at least two fatal bugs. (bug 1645672 is the other one.) Wayland/MOZ_X11_EGL and VAAPI are still experimental and disabled-by-default, but it's a killer feature that brings users back. Therefore please consider uplifing this into beta, and even into a dot release, if there is any. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1889556 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889556 > 1. How can I boot the system from within the Grub rescue prompt? I don‘t have a live System and can‘t get hands on one for several days. You can't. The part of grub that loaded from the MBR (and printed 'grub rescue>') is incompatible with stage 2 of grub at /boot/grub/. You either need to upgrade the MBR part ('grub-reinstall /dev/...') or downgrade /boot/grub/ somehow (perhaps copy off another system?). Either way you need the install media. > 2. I did reboot my computer right now, and minutes before I did a full upgrade. From the above conversation one can see that the bug is known for almost a week. So why is there no emergency patch like a package that goes back to the last functional version and does a grub reinstall? The bug (#1889556) has been fixed. Did you 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get upgrade' prior to rebooting? If so, 'apt-get upgrade' would terminated early with an exit code, which is as much of a hint as dpkg can give you that grub is hosed, and needs fixing ('dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc') prior to reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889509 Title: grub boot error : "symbol 'grub_calloc' not found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1889509/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes
The attachment in comment #10 confirms the problem is happening at a low level in the kernel. Although Xorg could override that if it was smart enough. In theory you can do it manually but would need to become an expert at crafting modeline entries to get it working. I don't know how myself. If that's possible then the data you need is in comment #7. Obviously Windows 10 demonstrates that it is possible to support this monitor with this HDMI port. Only Linux does not yet... As a workaround, if you have a USB-C port and an appropriate cable/adapter then you might be able to use the DisplayPort on the monitor. If that works then it should give different timings and might provide the 4K option... also at 60Hz instead of just 30Hz. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890418 Title: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

From this I deduced that perhaps windows uses one report format while linux uses the other. I cannot locate that page now, it may have been taken down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890418 Title: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for your work I just bought and tried a new 4K hdmi cable, with no change. [Bug 1890418] Re: External monitor will not display to 4k
Thanks. The file xrandr.txt indeed shows the HDMI connection is limited to 1920x1080. It also shows that's the "current" mode but it lists no "preferred" mode, which does support the idea that the monitor can do higher resolution... The manufacturer's specs mention that 4K is limited to 30Hz over HDMI. But that should be fine. It just means the monitor can't do HDMI 2.0. Most likely the monitor only supports HDMI 1.3 or 1.4. I think the main problem here is probably the HDMI cable. If it can only handle HDMI 1.2 or lower then you will not see the 3840×2160 30Hz option. So I suggest getting a newer cable that supports at least HDMI 1.3. Why Windows 10 doesn't have the same issue, I don't know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890418 Title: External monitor will not display to 4k To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1890418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". [Bug 1890332] Re: apt update fails on docker arm container 20.04
The root cause of the problem [is in libseccomp When][1]. The newer version fixes the problem, but it is not yet available in Debian's stable repos. There are two way to fix this problem: **Method 1** Start the container with `--privileged`. This bypasses docker's security measures, so it is not recommended. **Method 2** Upgrade libseccomp manually. Dowload version from unstable repos (I tested with 2.4.3-1) [here][2]. Uninstall the current version: `sudo dpkg --force-all -P libseccomp2` Install the new version: `sudo dpkg -i libseccomp2_2.4.3-1+b1_armhf.deb` [1]: https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40734 [2]: https://packages.debian.org/sid/libseccomp2 ** Bug watch added: github.com/moby/moby/issues #40734 https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40734 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890332 Title: apt update fails on docker arm container 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1890332/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890517] [NEW] redis-server crashes with jemalloc error if activedefrag is enabled
Public bug reported: journalctl output: Aug 05 18:20:25 mhall-xps redis-server[555286]: *** FATAL CONFIG FILE ERROR *** Aug 05 18:20:25 mhall-xps redis-server[555286]: Reading the configuration file, at line 1352 Aug 05 18:20:25 mhall-xps redis-server[555286]: >>> 'activedefrag yes' Aug 05 18:20:25 mhall-xps redis-server[555286]: active defrag can't be enabled without proper jemalloc support I am in the process of debugging this more fully, but it appears that part of the problem is caused by the difference between the USE_JEMALLOC and USE_SYSTEM_JEMALLOC flags in the debian/rules and debian/patches for the package. When you run ldd on redis-server, it is linked against libjemalloc, but it seems that the logic in the redis-server binary itself is not detecting this because the ifdefs involved depend on USE_JEMALLOC being set and the packaging code is not setting this flag. However, rebuilding the package from the Ubuntu source with the flag set did not seem to help. The latest Debian source on Git is giving me some FTBFS issues, probably user error because I am not that familiar with using the special Debian package Git repos and some of the distro specific patches probably did not get applied: cc: error: ../deps/lua/src/lua_struct.o: No such file or directory cc: error: ../deps/lua/src/lua_cmsgpack.o: No such file or directory ... cc: error: ../deps/jemalloc/lib/libjemalloc.a: No such file or directory Using the Debian source from the latest unstable tarball, 6.0.6, the error received changes: Aug 05 19:43:23 mhall-xps redis-server[595179]: Active defragmentation cannot be enabled: it requires a Redis server compiled with a modified Jemalloc like the one shipped by default with the Redis source distribution Reading the code some more from there, it appears that, when using the system jemalloc, as the Redis package is trying to do, because the system jemalloc does not define the symbol JEMALLOC_FRAG_HINT checked in zmalloc.h to fully enable defrag support. [Bug 1890467] Re: wmi_bus wmi_bus-PNP0C14:00: WQBC data block query control method not found
Result of `sudo acpidump > acpi.log` attached. As for USB issues: 1. I sometimes experience bad contact to my iPhone when I charge it using a USB port. This seems to be a physically bad contact to me, however, but I cannot tell for sure. 2. Another issue is that after a USB thumb drive has been unmounted via the `unmount` command, the written data may be yet in the process of being transferred, so simply taking the drive out immediately after unmounting would probably damage the file system or the drive itself or both. I need to say `udisksctl power-off -b /dev/sdb` and wait for termination to make sure that the device is really safe to unplug. As for wake-up, the laptop seldom refuses to wake up and freezes instead. I simply gave the issue as an example of what goes wrong (there are dozens of such small issues). ** Attachment added: "Result of `sudo acpidump > acpi.log`." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890467/+attachment/5399096/+files/acpi.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890467 Title: wmi_bus wmi_bus-PNP0C14:00: WQBC data block query control method not found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1866444] Re: [MacBook2, 1, SigmaTel STAC9221 A1, Mic, Internal] Recording problem
Hi! I just want to chime in and document my workaround to use a generic UVC webcam with a built-in mic. I attach a screenshot showing both a "multichannel input" and "microphone" once the UVC webcam is attached. [Bug 1890436] Re: VGA image is ghosted and stretched (LG L1953S)
This looks like a signalling problem. There doesn't seem to be any corruption in the image. Only the signal to the monitor doesn't correctly match the frequencies that the monitor requires. As a workaround please try selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the login screen. Please also try a different VGA cable if you can. ** Summary changed: - Screen corruption with multi monitor setup + VGA image is ghosted and stretched (LG L1953S) ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890436 Title: VGA image is ghosted and stretched (LG L1953S) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890436/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890512] Re: bluetooth stopped working after recent apt updates
There have been no updates to the 'bluez' package since 20.04 was released. So that can't be the problem. Most likely it's a kernel update that caused the problem. The most recent one was only a week or two ago. [Bug 1890411] Re: Xorg crashes when starting gdm3. Bug in libgl1-mesa-dri.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Tags added: bionic ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890411 Title: Xorg crashes when starting gdm3.
