[Bug 1890750] [NEW] Permission Denied when using SMB share as storage location
Public bug reported: 1. Ubuntu release $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Release:20.04 2. Package Version $ apt-cache policy deja-dup deja-dup: Installed: 40.7-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 40.7-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 40.7-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 40.6-1ubuntu2 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 3. What I expected to happen Configure an SMB share as the network location to save my backups. I am using the same share that works with the Gnome File manager. 4. What happens instead: I get a permission denied error when trying to use a SMB share as the storage location. This share is mountable and read/writeable through the same path when accessing it with the Gnome File manager. Its unclear from the error what causes the failure or what I should be doing differently. I set the path to smb://mycloudex2ultra.local/bkup/, the folder to deja-dup and enter the correct username, domain, and password in the pop up dialog. Running with DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 shows the path as DUPLICITY: . [Bug 1890725] [NEW] wacom tablet disturbs unity background, color scheme and keyboard shortcuts
Public bug reported: If I make a fresh 20.04 install from scratch, with the default gnome desktop, then plugging the wacom tablet below does not disturb the background, color scheme and keyboard shortcuts, like ctrl+alt+T give a terminal. But as soon as I upgrade this install with ubuntu-unity-desktop, and I switch to use the corresponding LightDM, then the "system setting" (in the upper right corner) is not able to handle the background (to set it to a solid color, or a photo, it remains solid black), it is not able to set the theme from the default dark to the lighter "radiance", and the worst of all: the former keyboard bindings, like "ctrl+alt+T gives a terminal" are no longer executed, they are still there in the listing, we can change to what keystroke is e browser or a terminal is bind, but will not work if I press the usual combination. However, the tablet itself works immediately like a dumb mouse device. This tablet is according to lspci: ID 056a:0378 Wacom Co., Ltd CTL- 6100WL [Intuos BT (M)] Somehow plugging the Wacom to USB disables, paralyses a nice diverse selection of features, but only in the case of Unity, and NOT in the case of the default Gnome. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890725 Title: wacom tablet disturbs unity background, color scheme and keyboard shortcuts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1890725/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1890276] Re: inetd does not answer broadcast requests
Unfortunately I had to time box myself from this issue while doing initial investigation... I was able to reproduce the issue: after installing openbsd-inetd, tcpd and rstatd + rstat-client I could observe that only xenial and bionic hosts are the ones responding to UDP broadcast requests from "rup" binary: (c)rafaeldtinoco@xenial:~$ rup xenial.lxd20:09 up 1:39, load 0.58 0.63 0.54 bionic.lxd20:09 up 1:43, load 0.58 0.63 0.54 (c)rafaeldtinoco@bionic:~$ rup xenial.lxd20:12 up 1:42, load 0.39 0.50 0.51 bionic.lxd20:12 up 1:46, load 0.39 0.50 0.51 (c)rafaeldtinoco@eoan:~$ sudo rup xenial.lxd20:12 up 1:51, load 0.62 0.52 0.49 bionic.lxd20:12 up 1:55, load 0.62 0.52 0.49 (c)rafaeldtinoco@focal:~$ rup xenial.lxd20:12 up 1:42, load 0.28 0.46 0.50 bionic.lxd20:12 up 1:47, load 0.28 0.46 0.50 So it is clear that the rpc-rstatd is the one to blame, as all clients can receive info from older ubuntu versions. I was curious because there were practically no changes in all related packages: - openbsd-inetd - tcpd (tcp-wrappers) - rstatd to justify a change of behavior so I checked syslog in the working nodes: when hostname is given: xenial rpc.rstatd[2961]: connect from 10.250.97.142 (10.250.97.142) when broadcast is attempted: xenial rpc.rstatd[2965]: connect from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) and when broadcast is attempted with remote bionic (works): bionic rpc.rstatd[6264]: connect from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) bionic rpc.rstatd[6267]: connect from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) and there might be something related to UDP broadcast and lo interface... I backported: openbsd-inetd 0.20160825-4build1 tcpd 7.6.q-30 rstatd 4.0.1-10 to bionic expecting to brake it and it did not happen =). As I was running all as containers, on top of the same kernel, it is likely some environmental thing related to how tcp-wrappers are dealing with an UDP socket listening to broadcast. Running inetd by hand (outside systemd scope) did not help also, the broadcast request did not even arrive to the socket as it seems, just the direct one: (c)rafaeldtinoco@eoan:~$ sudo inetd -idl pmap_set: 11 1 17 41139 pmap_set: 11 2 17 41139 pmap_set: 11 3 17 41139 pmap_set: 11 4 17 41139 pmap_set: 11 5 17 41139 ADD: rstatd rpcprog=11, rpcvers=5/1, proto=rpc/udp, wait.max=1.256 user:group=nobody:(default) builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/tcpd someone wants rstatd 2830 execv /usr/sbin/tcpd reaping asked for 2830 reaped, status 0 restored rstatd, fd 7 pmap_unset(11, 1) pmap_unset(11, 2) pmap_unset(11, 3) pmap_unset(11, 4) pmap_unset(11, 5) Checking tcpdump: $ rup eoan.lxd and the eoan container shows: 20:46:39.145376 IP 10.250.97.227.57183 > 10.250.97.200.111: UDP, length 56 20:46:39.145486 IP 10.250.97.200.111 > 10.250.97.227.57183: UDP, length 28 20:46:39.145562 IP 10.250.97.227.51090 > 10.250.97.200.60135: UDP, length 40 20:46:39.150911 IP 10.250.97.200.60135 > 10.250.97.227.51090: UDP, length 132 $ rup with no args and eoan container shows: 20:46:42.906008 IP 10.250.97.227.42901 > 10.250.97.255.111: UDP, length 100 meaning that the broadcast address was simply ignored by eoan as it looks like, while it was fully responded by the xenial container: 20:49:45.199018 IP 10.250.97.227.9 > 10.250.97.255.111: UDP, length 100 20:49:45.204090 IP 10.250.97.213.713 > 10.250.97.227.9: UDP, length 140 The only way I was able to reproduce something similar was if daemon side was not listening (or have bind) the broadcast address... It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1890639/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1890672] [NEW] secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2
Public bug reported: I've been using https://github.com/donbowman/ubuntu-secure-boot on my 18.04 system for secure boot for just over two years. It worked quite well. This morning I did a dist-upgrade. Upon reboot, the system complained that my kernel wasn't signed (something along the lines of "$KERNEL has invalid signature."). I was fairly sure my kernel was signed, and signed properly, so I was somewhat confused. In the past, when I had messed this up, I was able to use `set check_signatures=no` to get the system to boot into the OS. This no longer worked; it is as though that flag is now being ignored. I had to disable secure boot in the bios to proceed and debug the problem. I upgraded to 20.04 in the hopes that that would fix my problem. I had no success there either. Searching around, I found this patch, which exists in a grub2 version published recently in both 18.04 and 20.04: + [ Dimitri John Ledkov ] + * SECURITY UPDATE: Grub does not enforce kernel signature validation +when the shim protocol isn't present. +- 0097-linuxefi-fail-kernel-validation-without-shim-protoco.patch: + Fail kernel validation if the shim protocol isn't available +- CVE-2020-15705 ... diff -Nru grub2-2.04/debian/patches/0097-linuxefi-fail-kernel-validation-without-shim-protoco.patch grub2-2.04/debian/patches/0097-linuxefi-fail-kernel-validation-without-shim-protoco.patch --- grub2-2.04/debian/patches/0097-linuxefi-fail-kernel-validation-without-shim-protoco.patch 1970-01-01 00:00:00.0 + +++ grub2-2.04/debian/patches/0097-linuxefi-fail-kernel-validation-without-shim-protoco.patch 2020-07-20 18:19:08.0 + @@ -0,0 +1,90 @@ +From 67508ab68e6a5be869e049a0e6474f4b717d3ab9 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 +From: Dimitri John Ledkov +Date: Wed, 22 Jul 2020 11:31:43 +0100 +Subject: linuxefi: fail kernel validation without shim protocol. + +If certificates that signed grub are installed into db, grub can be +booted directly. Given that the patch I pasted above logs the same error I was seeing, and given that the change in 2.04-1ubuntu26.2 (the most recent) only touches the post install, I'm fairly confident in saying that the patch I pasted introduced my problem. Now, perhaps there is a problem with how the secure boot package I am using working. I'd love to know what we should be doing differently if so. However, given the check_signatures=no isn't working any more, and it is in the official grub documentation (https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/check_005fsignatures.html) I think there's at least one bug here. So please do tests correctly - as described in http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/413/builds/218647/testcases/1300/results for example. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885414 Title: on flavours ubiquity: bootloader failed on /dev/vda To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1885414/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890638] Re: I am unable to update my Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20.4

[Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver
The post 54 workaround fixed it for me, thanks much @khitschler. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma- desktop/+bug/1849084/comments/54) Running Ubuntu 18.04.1 with latest stable kernel (5.4.0-42), but this has been a problem since the upgrade from 16.04. Since there are no issues with the workaround, it will remain in place until the upgrade to 20.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849084 Title: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1849084/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1885414] Re: on flavours ubiquity: bootloader failed on /dev/vda
Bootloader installation still fails with Aug 06, 2020 ISO of Ubuntu MATE Groovy 20.10 in a VirtualBox VM. Host OS: Ubuntu MATE 20.04 VirtualBox Version: VirtualBox-6.1.97-139689-Linux_amd64 Right when I tried to partition manually there were warnings that I never saw up until Ubuntu MATE Focal 20.04 Warning #1: "No EFI System Partition was found. This system will likely not be able to boot successfully, and the installation process may fail. Please go back and add an EFI System Partition, or continue at your own risk". and upon clicking "Continue", installer displayed: Warning #2: "The partition table format in use on your disks normally requires you to create a separate partition for boot loader code. This partition should be marked as a "Reserved BIOS boot area" and should be at leat 1 MB in size. Note that thi is not the same as a partition mounted on /boot. If you do not go back to the partitioning menu and correct this error, boot loader installation may fail later, although it may still be possible to install the boot loader to a partition". I have submitted 2 similar bug reports on July 06, and Aug 01, bug report #1886580 and #1889989. Today, I could not submit bug report from within the installation as Apport kept displaying a message, "Collecting problem information". I waited for 20+ minutes but it did not bring a window from where I can submit a bug report. [Bug 1890599] Re: 18.04 to 20.04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133 Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which you are upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge package from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa- purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers'. After that you can try upgrading again and if it still fails open a new bug report.
