[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
"unfortunately using the 'elan touchpad patch' didn't work because probably MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 is not an elan device." Thats not really correct. The touchpad is from Elan (see Vendor-ID 04F3) and there are the following two versions: ELAN0001:00 04F3:3140 MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 The MSFT (where MS is probably the abbreviation for MicroSoft) seems to have a different firmware that meets Microsoft's requirements and there is no driver for it under Linux yet. Perhaps the following article found on "https://windowsarea.de/2016/12/microsoft-praezisionstouchpads- Werden-pflicht-unter-windows-10/" will bring some clarity to the matter. I quickly translated it with Google. Microsoft: Precision touchpad becomes mandatory for Windows 10 notebooks During the WinHEC conference in Taiwan, Microsoft announced that the precision touchpad will be mandatory in a later Windows update from the Windows hardware compatibility program. This means that manufacturers who do not install such touchpads will not receive certification for Windows. Manufacturers can still install Windows, but this certificate is simply missing. It's a step in the right direction, especially since Windows machines have long been known for their weak input devices. A lot has changed in the last few years, especially due to Microsoft's commitment. In Windows 10, for example, standard gestures were defined, which are mostly supported by the manufacturers. Precision touchpad ≠ good touchpad However, the fact that Microsoft will require a precision touchpad in the future does not mean that it has to be a good touchpad. “Precision touchpad” is basically just the term Microsoft uses to summarize those touchpads that communicate via the driver integrated in Windows. In other words: The touchpad options integrated in the settings can already be used for the touchpad from Redstone 2. Devices that use a proprietary Synaptics driver, for example, cannot be controlled with it. It doesn't matter whether the touchpad comes from Microsoft, Apple, Synaptics or a cheap Chinese village. As long as the manufacturer controls its touchpad via the Windows driver, it is a “precision touchpad” for Microsoft. The Trekstor SurfBook W1 uses the Windows driver and is therefore a “precision touchpad”, but the HP Specter x360 is a proprietary panel for the settings. The latter undoubtedly has the better quality unit, the only difference is that the precision touchpad can be configured in the Windows settings and the HP touchpad can only be configured using software specially written for it. a step in the right direction The fact that touchpads are to be configured exclusively via the Windows settings in the future is an important step. Users can find their way around it better and the use of a touchpad under Windows is also simplified. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887190 Title: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pop-os/+bug/1887190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1892832] [NEW] dnspython 2.0.0-1 fails IPv6 autopkgtests
Public bug reported: Currently dnspython 2.0.0-1 is stuck in groovy-proposed due to its own autopkgtests failing. After investigating a bit further, it can be seen that the failing (and hanging) tests are ones related to UDP DNS queries using IPv6, which were not tested in the previous dnspython versions. This particularly means the testQueryUDP* tests from tests_query and tests_async (but there's more). The testing suite tries to be as smart as possible and checks for IPv6 connectivity before trying to validate IPv6, but on our infrastructure those checks pass but the UDP tests do not. This rises the question if the autopkgtest infrastructure (with the network proxy) simply intervenes in the testing, causing those tests to fail, or is this feature broken in Ubuntu. It's worth noting that these autopkgtests are passing fine on Debian. I have tried preparing an IPv6 setup to check which one is it, but sadly I was unable to get one configured properly - no IPv6 support from my ISP, nor was I able to get IPv6 working via a VPN. We need someone to check that the failing bits work on a regular setup or not - if yes, we can then simply disable the IPv6 checks in the package and let it migrate. ** Affects: dnspython (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Tags: update-excuse ** Tags added: update-excuse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892832 Title: dnspython 2.0.0-1 fails IPv6 autopkgtests To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnspython/+bug/1892832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1892798] Re: eliminating resolvconf/openresolv dependencies
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I believe your assessment is correct. Do you know which Ubuntu first started using resolved? How far back do we need to make changes? There are two facets of this: 1) The Ubuntu systemd package should install the resolvconf compatibility symlink. I have no idea why this isn't already the case, and that seems like a bug that should be remedied ASAP. resolvconf(8) is the standard interface for programs to interact with DNS, which is why systemd provides it. Not providing it is super confusing. 2) The Recommends in the wireguard package should be adjusted. I believe apw@ can handle (2). [Bug 1892843] [NEW] /usr/bin/jq suddenly flagged as malware on many AV engines
Public bug reported: Some of my users use Windows 10 and run 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) in WSL. We use jq a lot. Last week users reported that jq was not working / missing and they were unable to reinstall with apt. Users having installed Ubuntu on bare metal or using it in a VM were not affected, only the WSL crowd. Windows Defender logs showed that it has quarantined /usr/bin/jq as Trojan:Win32/Casdet!rfn I compared the sha256sum from affected systems to a fresh install of jq from the Ubuntu repo. It is bcfa215dec8fe15d4265c508c39c1ebafb7370acc95721e4e7d610b0459eb8dd on all systems so I believe that it had not been altered or come from another repo. We reported it to Microsoft and they agreed it was a false positive and they would update definitions. A few days later the issue reoccurred. This time Microsoft classify it as Trojan:Linux/CoinMiner.N!MTB We contacted them again to report it as a false positive but this time they close our submission and say that the detection of /usr/bin/jq as Trojan:Linux/CoinMiner.N!MTB is valid and will not be changed. Meanwhile other AV engines also jumped onto the bandwagon. It was just 4or 5 a few days ago now it is up to 15, including ClamAV. https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/bcfa215dec8fe15d4265c508c39c1ebafb7370acc95721e4e7d610b0459eb8dd/detection There is an issue open on jq's GitHub about it too: https://github.com/stedolan/jq/issues/2175 I see one security firm claimed that jq is an IOC for a crypto mining worm: https://www.rewterz.com/rewterz-news/rewterz-threat-alert-cryptomining-worms-steals-aws-credentials None of our systems show indications of compromise, worm activity or anything. I maintain that this seems to be a false positive. [Bug 1831789] Re: Add "dis_ucode_ldr" to linux boot options for Recovery Mode
** Also affects: grubzfs-testsuite (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: grubzfs-testsuite (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: New => Fix Released ** No longer affects: grubzfs-testsuite (Ubuntu Xenial) ** No longer affects: grubzfs-testsuite (Ubuntu Bionic) ** Description changed: [Impact] Due to some recent problems with a microcode update which broke booting of some laptops I suggest adding "dis_ucode_ldr" to recovery mode boot options to allow booting after a bad microcode update. See the following topics that describe the problems: - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1829620 - https://github.com/intel/Intel-Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-Files/issues/1 When such problems occur it's very hard to see that the microcode loading is the issue, the booting just hangs at the purple screen, even removing "quiet splash" or using the recovery option will not show the error. We'll need to double check that dis_ucode_ldr works as expected across all architectures. According to the kernel docs (Documentation/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.txt), dis_ucode_ldr is x86 only, so my guess is that it will be ignored for other architectures. According to the kernel code (arch/x86/kernel/cpu/microcode/core.c), dis_ucode_ldr works for both AMD and Intel. I have some time tomorrow on test this on a ARM device. This was also discussed Ubuntu Developer mailing list where it was suggested to post this here, see: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives /ubuntu-devel/2019-June/040725.html [Test case] - Check that dis_ucode_ldr is present on Linux entries + Check that dis_ucode_ldr is present on Linux entries (zsys support in focal+ is verified by grubzfs-testsuite changes) [Regression potential] If you actually require microcode updates to get into userspace, your recovery option won't work anymore. Unassign a NVMe drive in HMC from your LPAR 2. Reassign it to your LPAR again 3. dmesg == Solution The issue with VF attach/detach is with the fact that on IBM Z VFs can be enabled/disabled individually using echo 0 > /sys/bus/pci/slots//power If this was done with a VF linked to a parent PF the symlink in the parent (/sys/bus/pci/devices//virtfnX) would become stale while the VF is disabled and when turned back on the VF would not get linked to the PF again and so could not be used e.g. with QEMU which relies on the links. Similarly stale virtfn links could remain after removing VFs through. echo 0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices//sriov_numvfs Furthermore there was a missing pci_dev_put() when searching for the parent PF potentially resulting in a too high reference count of the parent PFs. This has been fixed upstream and in 5.8 stable with the following 3 upstream commits: 3cddb79afc60bcdb5fd9dd7a1c64a8d03bdd460f s390/pci: fix zpci_bus_link_virtfn() 2f0230b2f2d5fd287a85583eefb5aed35b6fe510 s390/pci: re-introduce zpci_remove_device() b97bf44f99155e57088e16974afb1f2d7b5287aa s390/pci: fix PF/VF linking on hot plug These should apply cleanly after applying b76fee1bc56c31a9d2a49592810eba30cc06d61a s390/pci: ignore stale configuration request event from Bug 1891437. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Skipper Bug Screeners (skipper-screen-team) Status: New ** Tags: architecture-s39064 bugnameltc-186885 severity-medium targetmilestone-inin20041 ** Tags added: architecture-

Trusty is EOL. The system in question seems to be in an unsupported state. The apt version is old, and the upgrade seems to have been attempted with apt instead of do-release-upgrade (as do-release-upgrade would tell you to upgrade first). apt in trusty does not contain the bash completion, and apt in xenial has appropriate Replaces on the bash-completion that is causing the conflict here. ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: bash-completion (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1620459 Title: package bash-completion 1:2.1-4ubuntu0.2 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/bash-completion/completions/apt', which is also in package apt 1.0.1ubuntu2.14 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1620459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1890772] Re: No signal on 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitor by default, until "max bpc" is lowered to 8
I afraid we can not just trust (EDID_version >= 1.4 && EDID_supports_10bit). Because this issue caused by any problematic component in the middle of pipeline. To ensure the compatibility, better to just defautly set bpc=8. Think of one scenario, a speaker get his Ubuntu machine onto stage, plug the HDMI or DP projector which works well on latest speaker who is using Windows machine. Then, he get dark screen or audio function lost I guess the Ubuntu user might not aware it's caused by bpc. The default behavior should offer better user experience. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890772 Title: No signal on 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitor by default, until "max bpc" is lowered to 8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/1890772/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
