[Bug 1861610] Re: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL'

2020-08-27 Thread Michael
I need help!

The solution from comment #66 and #96 doesn't work for me.
I see elan0634 in acpidump, but elan_i2c or i2c_hid don't show up in lsmod.

cat /sys/bus/acpi/devices has ELAN0634:00, but modalias is empty.
No reaction on the touchpad.

Ubuntu 20.04.1, latest BIOS update (DJCN18WW).

Any suggestions?

[Bug 1892814] Re: pulseaudio bluetooth problems with profiles

2020-08-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for all that.

The first and biggest problem I can see is this USB device:

Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)

Unfortunately Cambridge Silicon Radio dongles are unreliable and buggy
for everyone. I had to learn that the hard way too... So I strongly
recommend getting a different brand as a first step.

The only remaining concern then is the other wireless dongles on the
same machine:

Logitech, Inc. LX-700 Cordless Desktop Receiver
  Valve Software Wireless Steam Controller

If replacing the Bluetooth dongle with a non-Cambridge one does not
solve the problem then I would try unplugging the above devices. And
also moving away from other sources of 2.4GHz interference like wifi
access points.

But mostly I recommend avoiding dongles that have Cambridge Silicon
Radio chips. They are known to cause all kinds of random failures. The
only hard part is that you can't tell that's what they are until after
you buy one and plug it in :(

- Random freeze on laptop machine, when trying to sleep (normal
power-save/timed sleep mechanism). The machine would not respond to anything
except a hard press of the power button. The attached log output was recorded
at the time of the attempted sleep, indicating a kernel oops. There are a lot
of Nvidia references, so not sure if it's the Nvidia driver, kernel or both.
This is Ubunty 20.04.1 with the latest kernel 5(Ubuntu 5.4.0-42.46-generic

After computer completes boot, I expect to be able to select my user, enter my
password and login successfully in Plasma Desktop.

What happened instead:
After computer completes boot, SDDM appears to be frozen. Cursor does not blink
in the password field, as it should. Mouse still moves but cannot click any
icon. System is not frozen, I can drop to another tty, login, check logs,
reboot.
This does not happen every time I boot, I have not yet found a way to reproduce
the issue reliably, but I would say it happens around 30%~50% of the times I
boot.

[Bug 1893299] Re: bluetooth connection instability

2020-08-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1893299/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

But why does g-c-c choose the lowest frequency refresh instead of the

the 60 Hz option:

   1920x1080 60.00* 50.0059.9430.0025.0024.00

[Bug 1892814] Re: pulseaudio bluetooth problems connecting

2020-08-27 Thread Martin Gerdzhev
The other bluetooth bug is now here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1893299

** Description changed:

Pulseaudio has been super unstable since ubuntu 20.04.
bluetooth has multiple connectivity issues which sometimes can only be
resolved by unpairing and then pairing again.

- e..g Very frequently if I turn on the bluetooth headset and hit connect

+ A big problem comes when a bluetooth headset is connected. Sometimes it
+ does not show up as well in the sound settings or the wrong profile is
+ shown. Sometimes I try changing the profile it works, but other times it
+ does not alter anything - e.g. changing from hfp to a2dp shows the
+ change but the profile remains. If I switch settings tabs and go back to
+ sound settings the old profile remains.

[Bug 1893168] Re: groovy gnome-shell crash

2020-08-27 Thread shemgp
Since people might get hit by this problem, I'm including a possible
solution to it.

WARNING, it will remove most of your packages (and install some) and
their configuration.

How to somewhat refresh Ubuntu by removing almost all packages and
reinstalling ubuntu-desktop:

1. Download the attached file: leftpackages.list

2. Run the following lines in the folder where the leftpackagest.list
file is located:

rm minimum.list
# make list of packages to remove which are not in leftpackages.list
dpkg --get-selections | while read line; do if ! cat leftpackages.list | grep
"$line" > /dev/null; then echo "$line" | sed -e
's/\([^e]\)install/\1deinstall/' >> minimum.list; else echo "$line" >>
minimum.list; fi; done
# mark those packages that should be removed
sudo dpkg --set-selections < minimum.list
# remove them
sudo apt-get dselect-upgrade
# remove their config
sudo aptitude purge '~c'

3. Install ubuntu desktop:

sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop --install-recommends

[Bug 1893297] [NEW] [SRU] please ad 9.27+dfsg-6 into focal-updates

2020-08-27 Thread Kei Okada
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Please add euslisp+9.27+dfsg-6 and jskeus+1.24+dfsg-2 from groovy to
focal-updates.

EusLisp is Lisp interpreter and it well works with jskeus, an Robotics-
related extentions. To run jskeus, we need euslisp > 9.27, which failed
to release on focal just before FeatureFreeze.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/euslisp/9.27+dfsg-6
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jskeus/1.2.4+dfsg-2

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.
https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/euslisp/-/blob/master/debian/changelog

[Test Case]

These packages are intensivery tested with debian-salsa using
autopkgtest

https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/euslisp/-/pipelines
https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/jskeus/-/pipelines

[Regression Potential]

We have confirmed there is no regresion using debian-salsa CI/CD process.

[Discussion]

Sicne most of euslisp users uses jskeus extenison, we'd like to add
jskeus into 20.04 LTS.

[Bug 1893290] Re: The DP/HDMI audio via USB-C to DP dongle or Dell Zeus adapter can't work after suspend

** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose
+ Since this patch is CCed to stable kernel, I just sent this patch
+ to oem-5.6 kernel, our oem project is waiting for this patch to
+ be landed to oem-5.6 kernel first.
+
+ [Impact]
+ On the Dell TGL laptop, if connecting a monitor via type-c to DP/HDMI
+ adapter, we will have an audio issue, that is playing the music and
+ suspend the system, after resuming back, the audio can't output from
+ DP/HDMI monitor anymore.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Cherry-pick a fix from upstream, this patch is verifying the needed
+ converter and pin to be in the D0 state.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Connect a monitor with USB-C to DP/HDMI adapter, open the youtu.com
+ and playing sth, suspend the system and resume, check if the sound
+ could play the music, repeat 20 times, all work very well.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ If this patch could introduce regression, it should be the power
+ consumption regression on Intel HDMI audio, since it makes the
+ converter and pin to be D0 state earlier than before. But this
+ impact is very small. one converter and one pin consume very little
+ power.

[Bug 1860483] Re: [nouveau, GeForce 7300 LE] screen background overlaid with scan type artifact in red

2020-08-27 Thread Aaron Wagner
I have been experiencing a similar problem with a GeForce 7300 GT on a
Mac Pro 1,1. I also have visual artifacts in 18.04 and 20.04. With
18.04, there are no artifacts or other problems during installation from
a DVD, but when booting the installed system there are artifacts after
login and eventually programs start hanging. With 20.04, the
installation program itself has artifacts when running off the DVD.

Just did a clean install of 14.04.6 and that works fine.
