[Bug 1893658] Re: Possible Memory Leak
You need to close your browser tabs and/or close some apps. It's certainly possible Windows copes with such stresses better than Ubuntu does. To investigate that further you might want to try adding more swap space or even disabling swap, as some people claim the Linux kernel performs better that way: sudo swapoff -a If all else fails, please just reduce the number of browser tabs you have open, close some apps, or add more RAM if your laptop allows for more to be added. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: In Progress => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893658 Title: Possible Memory Leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1893658/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1893724] [NEW] safe-rm breaks upgrades from 18.04 to 20.04
Public bug reported: I upgraded from bionic to focal this weekend and discovered that one of my packages (safe-rm) can totally break the 20.04 upgrade. Not sure how reproducible it is (I only upgraded once), but I had to remove safe-rm before manually restarting the failed upgrade. It comes down to the fact that safe-rm takes over the rm command and unfortunately is written in Perl so while Perl isn't quite working (e.g. while it's being upgraded), the rm command is broken :/ I just pushed out a fix to limit the takeover to interactive shells only (https://salsa.debian.org/debian/safe- rm/-/commit/6dbe2adaed423f61464c343f8b9a1b1f42f721f4), but the real fix which I'm hoping to get to in the next few weeks is to rewrite the tool in Rust (https://bugs.launchpad.net/safe-rm/+bug/1854103) to avoid depending on an interpreter. That said, it's a pretty serious issue so probably the best thing for 20.04 might be to conflict on the package somehow to make sure it's uninstalled prior to the upgrade. I wasn't sure which package to file this bug against so please re-assign if needed. ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893724 Title: safe-rm breaks upgrades from 18.04 to 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1893724/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows
The same issue here in Fedora32 gnome-shell 3.36.5. Alt+F2->(r) fixes the issue for a while, but in some time it comes back. The mouse clicks are inactive in the middle of the screen (horizontally), but seem to work correctly on the left and right. For example in Chrome with 29 tabs opened, first 11 tabs get correctly activated with the left click. The tabs 12-20 are immune to the click and 21+ get again activated correctly. of course the same thing happens in the other apps. For example windows cannot be dragged when clicked within the 'dead' are, however when clicked in first ~30% or last ~30% (horizontally) they are dragged as expected. [Bug 1861610] Re: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL'
You won't get any functionallity from ubuntu. Pointer events and 2 clicks that's it. Even though the touchpad get's recognized it get's recognized as some hybrid ELAN device, which means no software can detect it. I hope that there is something that you can do to "trick" the kernel because the Arch distribution works flawlessly so it CAN be recognized, but how, I really don't know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861610 Title: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1861610/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
I'm updated fully as of today under 20.04 and have the same issue described in OP with an NVIDIA M2000M in a Thinkpad P50 using the proprietary drivers and 1 1080p monitor (the laptop panel) and 1 4k monitor (Dell external). #83 indicated that they changed things so that their PRIME settings were "on demand" and that made things work for them, but my external monitor just quits working when I change it to that. Things work mostly as expected with the nouveau driver, but no scaling really works under the proprietary driver. I would use the nouveau driver but it seems very sluggish under any scaling factor. That said, my issue isn't really about fractional scaling, FWIW. I want to set the external display at 200% and set the internal one at 100%, a configuration which doesn't require fractional. But doing this produces 200% on both panels reliably (and the percentage values in settings reflect that both are set to 200%) under the proprietary drivers. So right now I can effectively either choose from these three options: a) use nouveau, make both displays work as I would like, but have a very sluggish UI experience b) use proprietary and have text that's too small to read for my old eyes on the 4K external monitor but have a usable built-in display, or b) use proprietary to get reasonably sized text and icons on the 4K external monitor but accept that the built-in monitor is not very useful because its effective resolution is 960x540. It seems that some people have gotten the combination of proprietary NVIDIA drivers and scaling to work. I would try this on another system to doublecheck but I don't have a machine handy with NVIDIA graphics different than the one in my system (M2000M). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870736 Title: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200% To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1870736/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1888352] Re: use builtin dump_acpi_tables.py in hookutils
** Description changed: 1. add apcidump to hookutils.py:attach_hardware and use the builtin dump_acpi_tables.py. 2. remove explicit acpidump from oem-getlogs to use the builtin one. 3. refine usage string in oem-getlogs. + + To SRU to focal: + + [Impact] + + * for OEM project, lts is been used. And collect log is important. +With built-in tool to get acpidump, we don't need to install +extra tool in the end-customer's machine. That make it much +easier for the oem process. + + * By call built-in utility, we no lounger need to install extra +tools to collect data that's both complete and convenient for +HWE people to work on. + + [Test Case] + + * before this applied, run oem-getlog without install acpidump. +we can't get the dump data. After this applied, we can just dump +the data HWE need. + + * test step: install the new package, run + +sudo -E oem-getlogs [-c case_id] to get the + +use apport-unpack to unpack the apport file. + +check the acpidump file. HWE people know much better on check +the acpidump file. Give the dump_acpi_tables.py just updated and SRUed +by HWE/ACPI/UEFI expert, it's pretty safe to do so. + + [Regression Potential] + + * Given the modification change the way to collect log, even it +failed, it won't break apport itself. Just the collected log +might contain data not so valid. + + * Given acpidump mostly used by HWE/ACIP/UEFI expert, and they +just reviewed and updated the dump_acpi_tables.py script, I +believe it will have good quality. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888352 Title: use builtin dump_acpi_tables.py in hookutils To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport/+bug/1888352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for looking into this. Testing is done in VMs, using dnsmasq for name resolution. [Bug 1643706] Re: snap apps need to be able to browse outside of user $HOME dir. for Desktop installs
At our university, we use a network-mounted /home directory, but it is inherently slow. Every employee is advised to store data that doesn't have to be shared among all systems in their local /scratch directory structure on that machine (desktops, practically), which is backed up regularly. So there you have a perfectly valid reason for using neither /home nor /media. I'm speaking from an end user perspective, and it's completely inconceivable that I cannot access arbitrary files on my system. I have a snap application where I can hit "File > Open" in the menu, and the dialogue displays my Ubuntu shortcuts. All of them point to locations somewhere in /scratch. When I click on them, they don't open, and I had all kinds of suspicions but this. So really, from a user perspective, this is most definitely a bug. Using symbolic links doens't work, and since I don't have root access to the machine, I cannot simply re-mount devices. Is there any way to work around this until the fix actually reaches users (Ubuntu 18.04, again with no choice over the OS version)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1643706 Title: snap apps need to be able to browse outside of user $HOME dir. for Desktop installs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1643706/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is chromium-browser (the package distributed and maintained by Ubuntu) similarly affected? ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893484 Title: Google Chrome 85.0.4183.83 crahses with SIGSEGV To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1893484/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
