[Bug 1698388] Re: Assertion failure in journal-remote-parse.c
It's a bit unfortunate that we don't have a test case for this assertion failure. That being said, the fix for it seems rather safe and sane. Still, I would like us to try and contact with the original reporter and ask him to test it, if possible. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698388 Title: Assertion failure in journal-remote-parse.c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1698388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1816045] Re: secureboot-db: release upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 modifies changelog.gz but resets mtime
Thanks for explaining. I am using an internally developed, Python-based backup system. It makes backups from Btrfs snapshots and regularly verifies the integrity of the entire restore process. The verification shows discrepancies such as the one above. As most backup systems rely on mtime to detect changes for performance, I suppose this is really a widespread problem. It probably goes undetected in the majority of cases as backup systems usually don't do 100% integrity verification lacking file system snapshots. My backup system uses regexp-based filtering to switch from mtime to content change detection. In this case the relevant line in its YAML configuration file is: - { pattern: '^usr/share/doc/[^/]*/changelog[^/]*$', filter: compare-contents } The problem is not just limited to package installation files as this excerpt shows: - { pattern: '^var/lib/sudo/', filter: compare-contents } - { pattern: '^var/lib/machines$', filter: compare-contents } - { pattern: '^var/cache/man/(.*/)?index\.db$', filter: compare-contents } And there are even more entries in my list. [Bug 1893579] Re: Ctrl + Alt + T and Fn keys not working
@Geziel: well, Ubuntu 20.10 *is* a development version, so you expect some bugs. It is normally more usable at this stage of the development cycle, though. FWIW, I ran evtest, and the keys are mostly being reported the same in groovy and focal - they just don't work in groovy. eg the function keys all report their expected values (eg KEY_VOLUMEDOWN, KEY_VOLUMEUP, KEY_MUTE), with the exception of the brightness up/down keys, which aren't reported in either focal or groovy. One exception to this is that Alt-PrtScr is reported in groovy as unknown, whereas it's reported in focal as KEY_SYSRQ and KEY_LEFTALT. PrtScr is reported correctly in both as KEY_SYSRQ. It's still possible to read and change the system brightness in groovy via the kernel, ie on my Dell XPS 15 by catting or echoing an appropriate number to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness, but the function keys don't work and nor does the task bar system menu's dropdown menu slider. The dropdown menu slider is initially set to zero, so it looks like it can't read the brightness, either. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893579 Title: Ctrl + Alt + T and Fn keys not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1893579/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily
I attach a photo of the temporary boot menu to this comment too, so that you need not skip between the bug reports. I am almost 100% sure that no user has tampered with the boot settings until yesterday, when I turned off first secure boot, then UEFI. The boot menu option "Linpus Lite ()" was there, when the computer arrived from the vendor (with Windows 10 pre-installed), and it works in UEFI mode with previous versions of Ubuntu, for example Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and daily Groovy iso files until June (this bug was detected in the beginning of July). I switched a RAID setting of the NVMe drive to AHCI in order to be able to install Ubuntu. This is the only modification that I know of in the whole UEFI/BIOS system, and it should not affect the action of "Linpus Lite" for booting from USB. ** Attachment added: "lenovo-v130_boot-option-menu.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148/+attachment/5407575/+files/lenovo-v130_boot-option-menu.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886148 Title: failure to boot groovy daily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily
@ Steve Langasek (vorlon), According to your request I continue the dialogue here about problems to boot a Lenovo V130 in UEFI mode with the current daily Groovy iso files. This problem was reported in comment #31 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148/comments/31 - When I select the USB drive from the temporary menu, it skips to the internal drive. This is a different failure mode compared to the previous iso files. (This computer is willing to boot from the grub-n-iso system of comment #26 and from cloned drives made from groovy iso files from June.) https://dustinweb.azureedge.net/media/494085/v130.pdf --- Previously I have not touched the UEFI/BIOS system of the *Lenovo V130* that I have access to, but now, that you ask about it, I had better do it in order to help identify what goes wrong, when trying to boot USB drives cloned from Groovy ISO files. When testing Groovy iso files, the fix against the boothole bug was entered into this computer, so that USB drives that used to boot would no longer boot. I turned off secure boot, and then it was possible again to boot for example Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (cloned to a USB drive). This matches the observation, that Groovy iso files worked until you modified the boot system (when you removed syslinux boot in BIOS mode, but obviously also modified the boot system in UEFI mode). But USB drives cloned from the current Ubuntu Groovy as well as Lubuntu Groovy do not boot. This is when using the boot option in the temporary boot menu (F12) "Linpus Lite ()" in the picture attached to the previous comment. This is the only available USB boot option in UEFI mode. Then I turned off UEFI mode and set teh computer to boot in 'legacy mode'. Now there were more boot options in the temporary boot menu (F12). These options are shown in the picture attached to the previous comment. The option "USB Hdd: " *works* also with USB drives cloned from the current Ubuntu Groovy as well as Lubuntu Groovy. So the problem in this case is not due to secure boot, but the "Linpus Lite" boot option does not work with the current Groovy iso files. It works with older iso files including Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and Groovy iso files from before you modified the boot system (when you removed syslinux boot in BIOS mode, but obviously also modified the boot system in UEFI mode). I attach the output of`efibootmgr -v`. ** Attachment added: "efibootmgr-of-lenovo-v130.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148/+attachment/5407572/+files/efibootmgr-of-lenovo-v130.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886148 Title: failure to boot groovy daily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1886148/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890922] Re: ed25519 keys unsupported due to old pyopenssl
Looking at the package versions shipped with Ubuntu, it looks like Ubuntu Bionic ships 17.5.0, but that Focal (where Ubuntu shipped Ussuri) ships 19.0.0. The cloud-archive hasn't carried pyopenssl since Xenial and Ubuntu won't backport a major change to an LTS release so I wonder if another option for using this is for the Kolla images to update the base image to a Focal source?
