OK after digging further through the logs, it seems that at some point
NetworkManager lost the vpn "HMAC Authentication" Cipher setting.
not sure if this was caused during the Dist upgrade or switching to IWD.
I will report further on this once I upgrade second laptop to Groovy.

I see the same problem with Ubuntu 18 and Kernel 4.15.0-115 and 117.
Massive trouble on ocfs2 based mounts. Writing isn't possible. A serious
issue as all clustered systems are not working. Processes trying to
write on the filesystem are hanging without any chance to kill them
except a reboot.

I think you can safely ignore that, that comes from Gtk3 library which
complains about error in actual Gtk theme. Eventually you can change
your Gtk theme in gnome-tweaks application.

I think this might happen because the screen is off at 6am. So any
attempt to change the gamma ramps (turn off night light) might fail and
not be reattempted. That would be easy enough to fix if it was all in
the gnome-shell process, but I suspect some of it is happening in the
'colord' or

I have tested 6.1 from Groovy on Focal - it works normally.
So backporting 6.1 to Focal is a good solution.
I'm not sure about using 6.1 packages on Bionic, can't install them
directly here because of dependency problems for at least libc6.
