[Bug 1925982] Re: GNOME Settings automatically closes on open.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925982 Title: GNOME Settings automatically closes on open. [Bug 1749393] Re: sbrk() not working under qemu-user with a PIE-compiled binary?
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * The current space reserved can be too small and we can end up +with no space at all for BRK. It can happen to any case, but is +much more likely with the now common PIE binaries. + + * Backport the upstream fix which reserves a bit more space while loading +and giving it back after interpreter and stack is loaded. + + [Test Plan] + + * On x86 run: + sudo apt install -y qemu-user-static docker.io + sudo docker run --rm arm64v8/debian:bullseye bash -c 'apt update && apt install -y wget' + ... + Running hooks in /etc/ca-certificates/update.d... + done. + Errors were encountered while processing: + libc-bin + E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) + + + [Where problems could occur] + + * Regressions would be around use-cases of linux-user that is +emulation not of a system but of binaries. +Commonly uses for cross-tests and cross-builds so that is the +space to watch for regressions + + [Other Info] + + * n/a + + + --- + In Debian unstable, we recently switched bash to be a PIE-compiled binary (for hardening). Unfortunately this resulted in bash being broken when run under qemu-user (for all target architectures, host being amd64 for me). $ sudo chroot /srv/chroots/sid-i386/ qemu-i386-static /bin/bash bash: xmalloc: .././shell.c:1709: cannot allocate 10 bytes (0 bytes allocated) bash has its own malloc implementation based on sbrk(): https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/bash.git/tree/lib/malloc/malloc.c When we disable this internal implementation and rely on glibc's malloc, then everything is fine. But it might be that glibc has a fallback when sbrk() is not working properly and it might hide the underlying problem in qemu-user. This issue has also been reported to the bash upstream author and he suggested that the issue might be in qemu-user so I'm opening a ticket here. Here's the discussion with the bash upstream author: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2018-02/threads.html#00080 You can find the problematic bash binary in that .deb file: http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20180206T154716Z/pool/main/b/bash/bash_4.4.18-1_i386.deb The version of qemu I have been using is 2.11 (Debian package qemu-user- static version 1:2.11+dfsg-1) but I have had reports that the problem is reproducible with older versions (back to 2.8 at least). Here are the related Debian bug reports: https://bugs.debian.org/889869 https://bugs.debian.org/865599 It's worth noting that bash used to have this problem (when compiled as a PIE binary) even when run directly but then something got fixed in the kernel and now the problem only appears when run under qemu-user: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1518483 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749393 Title: sbrk() not working under qemu-user with a PIE-compiled binary? [Bug 1926139] [NEW] dhclient doesn't receive dhcp offer from kernel
Public bug reported: Platform: Qemu/libvirt on AMD64 Ubuntu version: 20.04 isc-dhcp-client version: 4.4.1-2.1ubuntu5 Problem: When dhclient is used during boot every few reboots the DHCP OFFER packets aren't pushed from the kernel to dhclient. The DISCOVER packets can be seen in strace and tcpdump. The OFFER packets can be seen in tcpdump, but no read event is triggered. Ubuntu 18.04 doesn't have the problem, neither does Debian 10. [Bug 1924494] Re: Systemd shutdown order unmounts filesystem used by qemu/kvm guest before shutting down the guest
Thanks, In your log I see that stopping remote file systems and libvirtd properly was ordered AFTER libvirt-guests tried to shut down the guest. I've checked this in a few ways 1. libvirt/libvirt-guests vs remote fs (e.g. NFS) 2. libvirt/libvirt-guests vs NBD #1 Remote-FS - well ordered Apr 23 14:37:02 ps01ubx libvirt-guests.sh[51404]: Starting shutdown on guest: psw10x64 .. Apr 23 14:39:00 ps01ubx libvirt-guests.sh[51071]: Waiting for 1 guests to shut down, 5 seconds left Apr 23 14:39:04 ps01ubx libvirt-guests.sh[52102]: Timeout expired while shutting down domains Then libvirtd.service stops/fails and eventually Apr 23 14:39:05 ps01ubx systemd[1]: Stopped target Remote File Systems. So this isn't totally looking as I first assumed which was 1. NFS with the NTFS images on it disconnected 2. shutdown guest (fails due to missing NFS) Since the shutdown of libvirt-guests has a 120s timeout that is like a bit of breathing room in the shutdown. A lot happens before, a lot happens after - but we see that there is nothing concurrently going on while waiting for the guest shutdown to complete. What we see before is the I/O errors that you mentioned. 19221 Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: block nbd0: NBD_DISCONNECT 19222 Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: block nbd0: Disconnected due to user request. 19223 Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: block nbd0: shutting down sockets ... 19229 Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev nbd0, sector 1637875585 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x0 phys_seg 1 prio class 0 #2 NBD - too early Since the rest is behaving well it might be more the question "why is NTFS exiting early". # Set up via: Apr 22 12:00:02 ps01ubx ntfs-3g[2059]: Mounted /dev/nbd0p2 (Read-Write, label "psData", NTFS 3.1) # guest shutdown starts Apr 23 14:37:02 ps01ubx libvirt-guests.sh[51404]: Starting shutdown on guest: psw10x64 # NBD shut down via Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: block nbd0: NBD_DISCONNECT # Then I/O errors happen Apr 23 14:37:04 ps01ubx kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev nbd0, sector 1637875584 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 1 prio class 0 So it could be that NBD disconnect just waited until the guest shutdown was "kicked" but not until it completed? The log does not contain via which config/service you have configured your NTFS/NBD. It is just a old style /etc/fstab entry or anything more explicit in regard to ordering control like a .mount target or a custom .service? Could you please outline in detail the config that you use for that NBD/NTFS setup? If you have a target/unit/service for the NTFS . If you have any kind of such could you add to your config Requires=virt-guest-shutdown.target After=virt-guest-shutdown.target That would be what you add to anything that you want to have done/ordered into libvirt shutdown. That should ensure correct order. [Bug 1924494] Re: Systemd shutdown order unmounts filesystem used by qemu/kvm guest before shutting down the guest
For your experiments, here a few examples 1. using a mount unit for ntfs https://brunofontes.net/enu/post/mounting-partitions-systemd 2. doing disk setup with a service https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/608431/systemd-fix-ordering-cycle-when-mounting-an-ntfs-volume-on-a-legacy-raid-array General help on mount units https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.mount.html And as I said, for this case once you have such unites you can control them fine grained via: a) be completely shut down before libvirt can end (not what you want actually as that can be running concurrent to libvirt-guest service - this is better for other things to do before guests shut down - like swap scrubbing for secrecy or such) Requires=virt-guest-shutdown.target After=virt-guest-shutdown.target b) Ensure to be started before libvirt and even more important, only end after them on shutdown (reverse order) Before=libvirtd.service libvirt-guests.service -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924494 Title: Systemd shutdown order unmounts filesystem used by qemu/kvm guest before shutting down the guest To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1924494/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1926150] [NEW] [SRU] Backport JSON hooks 0.2
Public bug reported: [Impact] We want to be able to use JSON hooks 0.2 in xenial and later releases to display messages to users during dist-upgrade. For xenial, we backport the JSON hook support in its entirety, whereas for later releases, we only need to cherry-pick bugfixes and the v0.2 improvements. [Test plan] We have included unit and integration tests for the new JSON code to test the writer and prevent regressions in future changes. Regressions in other parts of the code should be caught by the test suite. [Where problems could occur] There may be bugs in the JSON code (apt-private/private-json-hooks.*) and in the integration thereof. The JSON hook code is identical to 2.3.2, whereas the integration code needed slight adjustments. The integration changes are limited to adding the hooks, and (for xenial, already in later releases) collecting all unknown package names. We believe the regression potential of these changes to be fairly limited. However, errors in JSON hooks are fatal, so once JSON hooks are running, they can cause apt to fail, which has to be kept in mind. Existing JSON hooks might not expect the new notifications, and break, but we are only aware of the snapd hook and it ignores any unknown notifications, so that should not pose a problem. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Committed ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: Triaged ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Committed ** Also affects: apt (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apt (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apt (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apt (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apt (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Impish) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926150 Title: [SRU] Backport JSON hooks 0.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1926150/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878760] Re: gcc-10 is selecting amdgcn target by default
Regarding "So installing gcc-10-offload-amdgcn will just make gcc build binaries for amdgcn target which can't run on nvptx target." GCC can compile a program for multiple GPUs at the same time. Which of them is used (nvptx or gcn or none/host fallback) is chosen at runtime. Hence, installing gcc-10-offload-amdgcn in addition to gcc-10-offload- nvptx should work – you will get a binary which runs on nvptx (and gcn, but that won't affect you). Alternatively, you can explicitly specify: -foffload=disable (no offloading, i.e. always uses the host fallback) and -foffload=nvptx-none (i.e. compile for nvptx [and host fallback], only) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878760 Title: gcc-10 is selecting amdgcn target by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-10/+bug/1878760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878760] Re: gcc-10 is selecting amdgcn target by default
so you have two solutions: 1) install both gcc-10-offload-amdgcn and gcc-10-offload-nvptx and build the offload support for both gpus. The resulting binary can run on both gpus. No, I didn't check what happens when both GPUs are present at runtime. 2) Pass -foffload=nvptx-none to only build for nvptx GPUs. closing this issue again ** Changed in: gcc-10 (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878760 Title: gcc-10 is selecting amdgcn target by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-10/+bug/1878760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
