[Bug 1846423]

2021-05-07 Thread Bugzilla-m
I think, wasting time dealing with undeletable reminders is an inconvenience
nobody needs.
To get rid of this, you need to downgrade on a backup, naturally always losing
changes made since then.
Exporting the buggy bunch and reimporting it into a clean installation results
in the same error.
Editing doesn't help.
After weeks I decided to go through by hand an restore what I could out of my
analogue backup.
So, I take this bug serious.
Nobody in charge seems to.
This doesn't speak for bugzilla.
Or *does* it?

[Bug 1846423]

2021-05-07 Thread Hungerburg
My experience with the "bug" is, that it is just a nuisance for the
people, that read logs, like myselves from time to time. From what I can
tell, the data fully conforms to the specification, only broken clients
(mentioned android apps) will fail on it. Eg. neither davical nor DAVx⁵
have any problems.

Curious what you went to. Feel like they don't want testers for either
any longer. Chrome works for a browser, but Outlook is where everyone is
leaning right now.

[Bug 1846423]

2021-05-07 Thread Bill-mair
After 2 years of Mozilla Thunderbird messing up my davical and repeatedly
having to clean it up so that my Android devices would sync again, I took the
hard decision (I've been using it since the early 2000s) to stop using it and
switched to another mail client.
Removing myself from the notifications too. This is the second time this year
I've stop using one of Mozilla's projects, the other being Firefox on Android,
what a dog's dinner that has turned out to be.
Good luck Mozilla.

[Bug 1927801] Re: on my dual monitor 21.04 systemm gnome-shell locks up about 2 to 5 mins after login

2021-05-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1927801/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

still an ongoing issue, seems that some of the low-level *.so shared-

[Bug 1927802] [NEW] ALSA: cannot set period size to 1024 frames for capture with sofhdadsp [sof-hda-dsp] Instead buffer sizes of 1008, 240, 120 work

2021-05-07 Thread Andrew Bailey
Public bug reported:

This was first reported in Bug #1872244 by John Smith on 2020-04-11

That bug report was converted into a question: question #692397: I
reported this on that thread however have heard no response.

However, I consider it to be a bug as it is not possible to configure
the standard power of 2 buffer sizes.

Instead buffer sizes of 1008, 240, 120 work.

The man page states that they should be powers of 2, and most jack audio
software fails to work properly.

My card is a

card 1: sofhdadsp [sof-hda-dsp], device 0: HDA Analog (*) []

All software has been updated to the latest versions.

With the default configuration

jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:1,0
...
ALSA: cannot set period size to 1024 frames for capture
ALSA: cannot configure capture channel

As reported jackd starts with a buffer size of 1008, a non standard, non
power of 2

jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:1,0 -p 1008

creating alsa driver ... hw:1,0|hw:1,0|1008|2|48000|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit
configuring for 48000Hz, period = 1008 frames (21.0 ms), buffer = 2 periods
ALSA: final selected sample format for capture: 24bit little-endian
ALSA: use 2 periods for capture
ALSA: final selected sample format for playback: 24bit little-endian
ALSA: use 2 periods for playback

I consider this a bug as the manual page for jackd states

-p, --period int

Specify the number of frames between JACK process() calls. This value
must be a power of 2, and the default is 1024.

And the current situation is that the only way jackd starts is with a
non power of 2.

Also buffer sizes of 240, 120 works

jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:1,0 -p 240

creating alsa driver ... hw:1,0|hw:1,0|240|2|48000|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit
configuring for 48000Hz, period = 240 frames (5.0 ms), buffer = 2 periods

jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:1,0 -p 120

creating alsa driver ... hw:1,0|hw:1,0|120|2|48000|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit
configuring for 48000Hz, period = 120 frames (2.5 ms), buffer = 2 periods

FYI a buffer size of 48 also works however I get another message (maybe
because I am not running with a low latency kernel ... yet)

Please see attachment for details.

[Bug 1925710] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Fails to boot on Lenovo Flex 3-1480 laptop

2021-05-07 Thread Richard J Uschold
This bug seemed similar to: shim-signed 15.4 does not boot on EFI 1.10
systems: 1925010

The above bug was fixed with a change to package shim-signed.

The version of shim-signed for Ubuntu 20.04 was last changed in August
2020. This is three months before the problem showed up. So, unless the
change was stuck in a three month long queue before being sent out, it
is not likely the same problem.

[Bug 1925676] Re: System freeze

2021-05-07 Thread Robert Boucher
Hi Daniel,

I did revert to an older version, 4.4.0-209 (from 4.4.0-210) but de bug
remains the same. Could it be Firefox? I have seen that a bug has been
reported on Audi/Video in the new release of April 19th. But it doesn't
seem to be the same, and my bug started earlier.

[Bug 1927219] Re: context deadline exceeded: unknown in containerd with latest runc version

2021-05-07 Thread Congelli501
In order to test weave's container network impact, on the limit, I
started 200 "sleep 7200" pods with the busybox image, with "hostNetwork:
true" to disable container networking.

This time, I was able to run 200 replicas, but I was unable to go to
over 200 pods, I tried the grow the replicas count to 300 and just got
100 pods in a ContainerCreating state, and the same logs.

[Bug 1927796] [NEW] [SRU]pam_tally2 can cause accounts to be locked by correct password. pam_faillock use is the recommended fix

2021-05-07 Thread Richard Maciel Costa
Public bug reported:

[IMPACT]
There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock down
even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous
logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71).

There are already two customer cases from the US Army complaining about
this behavior
(https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03vkq4QAA/view
and
https://canonical.lightning.force.com/lightning/r/Case/5004K03tkbmQAA/view).

Also, potentially, this will cause further problems in the future, since
both STIG benchmarks and CIS benchmarks rely on pam_tally2 to lock
accounts when wrong passwords are used. And both benchmarks - but
specially STIG - requires use of a lot of audit rules, which can lead to
the busy node environment.

The issue impacts all pam_tally2 versions distributed in all currently
supported Ubuntu versions and also the next unreleased one. Note that,
according to https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71, there is
no plan to fix this issue!

[FIX]
This fix proposes to add pam_faillock module to the PAM package, so users of
pam_tally2 having issues can migrate to pam_faillock. We also plan to modify
the current STIG benchmarks to rely on pam_faillock instead of pam_tally2, but
in order to do so, we need the pam_faillock module to be available.

Note that we don't propose to remove pam_tally2, since not every user of
this module is affected.

[TEST]
Tested on a VM installed with Focal server iso and on another with Bionic
server iso. Enabled pam_faillock module as recommeded by its man page. Then
tried to log over ssh with an incorrect password, until the account got locked.
Waited for the configured grace time to unlock and logged in using the correct
password.

Note that, since the pam_tally2 issue is caused by a racing condition,
with a hard to recreate environment (we could not even reproduce it with
pam_tally2), we could not reproduce the conditions to test pam_faillock
with.

[REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
The regression potential for this is small, since we're not removing the old
pam_tally2 module, just adding another one. So anyone still using pam_tally2
will be able to do so.

[Bug 1927219] Re: context deadline exceeded: unknown in containerd with latest runc version

2021-05-07 Thread Congelli501
I was able to reproduce the behaviour under a test VM.

I used a simple example nginx deployment with a high number of replicas.

With the older version of runc, I was able to run 200 replicas
successfully and even 250.

With the newer version of runc, I was only able to run 164 replicas out of 200
(the last 36 pods were stuck in a ContainerCreating state.
There were also 2 system pods on the node (weave + kube-proxy), so a total of
166 containers.

```
nginx-deployment-66b6c48dd5-2hdgd   0/1 ContainerCreating   0  11m
nginx-deployment-66b6c48dd5-2ql8r   0/1 ContainerCreating   0  11m
nginx-deployment-66b6c48dd5-4z54r   0/1 ContainerCreating   0  11m
nginx-deployment-66b6c48dd5-5vvzl   0/1 ContainerCreating   0  11m
nginx-deployment-66b6c48dd5-6xh9g   0/1 ContainerCreating   0  11m
...
```

I saw the same logs as what I saw on the production server for
containerd, and nothing more in dmesg / kern.log.

The load on the node was ok:
```
[Bug 1927791] Re: Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS - artefacts issue on log in screen after log out from the session
2021-05-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1927791
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
>From your description this reads like a duplicate of issues that occur
at the greeter or `sddm` which is not unique to Lubuntu, however without
a picture I cannot confirm this.
Please check out
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sddm/+bug/1865837 and if it
matches, please say so, or mark this report a duplicate of that report
(there are others too that also fitted this description, but that is a
like radeon card..)
[Bug 1734700] Re: mounting CIFS share failure (cifs_mount failed w/return code = -2)
2021-05-07 Thread Rosivaldo Correa
In my case the keyutils package did not resolve the issue. I still
getting the erro below:
--
CIFS: Attempting to mount //pof-fs08/pgbackups
No dialect specified on mount. Default has changed to a more secure dialect,
SMB2.1 or later (e.g. SMB3), from CIFS (SMB1). To use the less secure SMB1
dialect to access old servers which do not support SMB3 (or SMB2.1) specify
vers=1.0 on mount.
CIFS VFS: Error connecting to socket. Aborting operation.
CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -2
--
Any idea how can I fix that?
OS: Ubuntu 20.04
Commands that I tried to mount the share:
1. mount -t cifs -o username=,password=
//
2. mount -t cifs -o vers=1.0,username=,password=
// ,password=
// ,password=
// ,password=
//
I tried to add the options 'sec=ntlm, domain=' without success.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
The validation check occurs in the background... so users aren't
required to wait (many didn't wait & aborted the check, but still had
issues due to faulty media), they no longer abort the media check as
they don't notice it occurring :)
[Bug 1927219] Re: context deadline exceeded: unknown in containerd with latest runc version
2021-05-07 Thread Congelli501
Hi,
Here is the kern.log extract of the time containers were trying to start.
I only see logs about network interfaces, and the log is full of it.
I don't see those logs anymore after the runc version downgrade.
It looks like just a consequence of the runner's start failure.
About the load, I don't think it was very high, the server is quite powerful
(256GB of RAM, 16 core / 32 threads).
I experienced the problem on a production system during what should have been a
quick server reinstall during late maintenance hours, so I might be mistaken
about the load at that time.
I'll try to reproduce the issue on a test environment this weekend to
get real load figures with both versions of runc & allow further
testing.
[Bug 1925386] Re: Upgrade from 460.32.03-0ubuntu2 to 460.73.01-0ubuntu1 fails
2021-05-07 Thread dann frazier
In an attempt to verify, I tested an upgrade from hirsute-updates
->hirsute-proposed in the same way I did in the original report:
ubuntu@blanka:~$ sudo apt install nvidia-dkms-460 nvidia-utils-460
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Suggested packages:
  nvidia-driver-460
The following packages will be upgraded:
  nvidia-dkms-460 nvidia-utils-460
2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 78 not upgraded.
Need to get 399 kB of archives.
While the upgrade did not report errors, I did expect to see nvidia-
kernel-source-460 also get updated here. While an updated nvidia-kernel-
source-460 is also available in -proposed, the dependencies did not pull
it in. I see that nvidia-dkms-460 does indeed have a versioned dep on
nvidia-kernel-source-460, allowing the range of 460.73.01->460.73.01-1,
inclusive. I kind of expected this to be a strict =${src:Version} - i.e.
only allow nvidia-kernel-source-460 (= 460.73.01-0ubuntu1.21.04.1).
Since they are from the same source package that exact version should
always be available, and presumably there's a chance that a packaging
update could make some minor version of one incompatible with the other.
At any rate - I'm out of my depth here and perhaps there are some
guarantees about these packages that prevent issues between minor
versions. If so, I'm happy to go ahead and mark this as verified and
move on with testing the other series.
And indeed it is ADATA S70. So you are saying, if I add that and build
without details on what machine you're installing on, it's impossible to
know if this is LP: #1925010 or a different bug.  However, we did
specifically block release upgrades from 20.10 to 21.04 in the release
upgrader because there were known issues with 21.04 on older machines.
Marking this as a duplicate of 1925010.
2021-05-07 Thread Steve Langasek
All published now for xenial and bionic.
I think there may still be an issue where the unpack vs configuration
order is not guaranteed on upgrades within a release, and we may have
new grub-efi-amd64-signed unpacked, new grub-common not unpacked, and
shim-signed attempting to be configured (which invokes old grub-
install).  But I'll open a separate bug report for this.
I know it's cliche to bikeshed on names, but:
- "core" is already an overloaded word with too many meanings
- the apparmor project has had far too many people installing the
  apparmor-profiles-extra package without realizing the inconsistent
  quality of the profiles. I don't think "extra" conveys a strong enough
  feeling
I suggest gstreamer's approach: -good, -bad, and -ugly. It's a bit coarse,
maybe even rude, but I think it does a better job of answering the
question "do I want to rely on this?"
-supported imho gives a promise it can't keep: supported by whom? for how
long? mint users or pop_OS users probably won't get support for this
package from their respective communities, but -good -bad and -ugly still
describes our impressions of a package's maturity and suitability for use.
Thanks
