In my case on my '12 cMP that "GRUB_TERMINAL=console" as already set
that way, so that wasn't "the solution" to a problem that has been
affecting likely "EFI" boot computers for a year or more??
In my case I use my OpenSUSE installs to re-install grub2 . . . and that
restores grub

Im using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and have the same problem. I got the problem after
upgrading from Kernel 5.4.0-73-generic to 5.4.0-74-generic. As I got in
addition a firmware/microcode update it may be possible that the error is
adjacent to that update too.
If I boot to kernel 5.4.0-73-generic I have
dotnet-sdk is not part of the Ubuntu project to which this report is
currently reported against.
The terminal command "snap info dotnet-sdk" gives the following
