[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-15 Thread Eduard
@vicamo

Thanks!
It turns out to be something with my installation (no success after removing
NVIDIA drivers and it also turns out that installing an older generic kernel
version gives the same issue when I try that, something seems completely broken
here). I will find that out for myself.

So not a problem for the new kernel indeed.

[Bug 1256185] security audit

2021-06-15 Thread Alex Murray
I reviewed libsdl2 2.0.14+dfsg2-3 as checked into impish. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

libsdl2 is a replacement for libsdl1.2 and provides abstractions over
access to video devices, audio, and input devices, often used by games or
game engines and other applications wishing to provide user interfaces.

- CVE History:
  - 16 historical CVEs over a large code-base written in C
- I expected more to be honest so this is encouraging
- Build-Depends
  - Large list of depends, none out of the ordinary or sensitive
- No pre/post inst/rm scripts
- No init scripts
- No systemd units
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- 1 binary in PATH from the libsdl2-dev package:
  - -rwxr-xr-x root/root  1307 2021-01-19 01:05 ./usr/bin/sdl2-config
  - this is equivalent of pkg-config and is used to get cflags/ldflags etc
when compliling and application against libsdl2
- No sudo fragments
- No polkit files
- No udev rules
- No cron jobs
- unit tests / autopkgtests
  - No unit tests run during build that I could see but autopkgtests
include a basic test to ensure compiling against libsdl2-dev works via
both cmake and using pkg-config directly
- Build logs:
  - Lots of doxygen related noise in the build logs but nothing of note.

- No Processes spawned
- Memory management is all manual
  - libsdl2 is written in C so all memory management is done manually,
however looking over a sample of the code this looks relatively careful
and defensive. There were some instances where callers would not check
for a NULL return value on memory allocation (which could occur when no
memory is available), however this likely would only lead to a crash on
a NULL ptr dereference in subsequent code and hence a denial-of-service
but given these cases occur when low on memory anyway the impact is not
much different so they are not too concerning.
- File IO
  - Open joystick device-files etc and these are names are detected by
walking sysfs etc so are safe from untrusted input
- Logging appears to be careful to avoid format string vulns etc
- Uses lots of environment variables to allow to specify various device
  names or even location of configuration files etc. Whilst they might be
  able to be abused by the user of the library, since libsdl2 is a library
  it does not have elevated privileges to cause any effect as a result so
  this is generally not likely to be an issue.
- Lots of use of privileged functions (e.g. ioctl()) but this is expected
  and again not likely able to cross any security boundary
- No use of cryptography / random number sources etc
- No use of temp files
- No obvious use of networking
- No use of WebKit
- No use of PolicyKit

- No significant cppcheck results
- A large number of issues reported by Coverity, most are likely false
  positives or perhaps of low impact, again since the use of libsdl2 does
  not cross a privilege boundary

For a very large library written in C, libsdl2 is in better shape than I
had feared. The extensive use of manual memory management and the handling
of various APIs and devices means there would be a lot of scope for errors
but I did not see any evidence of anything that would give me significant
cause for concern.

Security team ACK for promoting libsdl2 to main.

How embarrassing -- thanks a lot for the heads-up! I think the best way
to fix this will be to do so in the Debian package in Unstable, which I
assume is how this is reaching Ubuntu. Sound good? This would target
2.3.4+dfsg-3, and I can have it uploaded to Debian Unstable within the
hour.

I create a separated bug for #2,

It is because the stress I perform is connected to WD19TB, which is not the
original test scenario of the bug.

[Bug 1932103] [NEW] 2.3.4+dfsg.1-2 is FTBFS

2021-06-15 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

Fails to build due to the terminal being too small:

 notcurses 2.3.4 by nick black et al on XTerm
  20 rows 76 cols (23.75KiB) 48B crend 8 colors
  compiled with gcc-10.3.0, 16B little-endian cells
  terminfo from ncurses 6.2.20201114
  avformat 58.45.100 avutil 56.51.100 swscale 5.7.100
...
At least an 76x24 terminal is required (current: 76x20)

This is due to the build server simulating an 24x80 terminal, and the
test running with a margin of 2, which causes it to be too small.
Proposed solution is to only use left and right margins to leave enough
rows to run the test.

[Bug 1929597] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (27.0.2 -> 27.1) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Groovy, Hirsute

2021-06-15 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Has anyone looked at the autopkgtest failures? They're all failure to
install dependencies on i386. It's possible that this is expected, but
it's unclear, and the tests should either be explicitly ignored (with
justification) or fixed. Or both, if they're expected to fail - ignored
for this upload, and then removed in a subsequent upload.

[Bug 1927866] Re: Root filesystem becomes readonly frequenty freezing system

2021-06-15 Thread anoopjohn
Thanks for your reply @kainhengfeng. The issue has happened before
suspend as well. I have seen it more often after I close the laptop i.e.
ever since I started consciously trying to do that to recreate the
error. What is interesting is that even that is not fully predictable.
It has not happened every time I suspend and restart.

The Ubuntu version i am Using is Hirsute.

Im on a RPI4.

On previus installs it used the "mail name" during install etc.
"rpi4-ubuntudesktop"
To generate the myhostname = rpi4ubuntudesktop and it would just work.

Now myhostname is created as "rpi4ubuntudesktop.." (Notice the two added dots)
Which it didt do before

# My main.cf file is not manually edited yet since i have a failed package
install
# Everytime i try to install something after installing postfix i get an

Running

Apt install --fix-missing

Reverts me back to the origional install error of postfix

Running

apt remove --purge postfix

apt install postfix

gives me the same errors as posted before.

[Bug 1929597] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (27.0.2 -> 27.1) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Groovy, Hirsute

2021-06-15 Thread Lucas Albuquerque Medeiros de Moura
We are now adding all of the tests that were performed using the package in
proposed.
There is only one test that is not passing:

Attached FIPS upgrade across LTS releases

On this test we enable FIPS on xenial and then upgrade the machine to bionic.
The reason that it is failing is because we enable the propose pocket before
doing the do-release-upgrade operation.
We can see on LP: #21551181 that shim-signed never built properly in -proposed.

dist-upgrade removes the shim-signed package and any subsequent reboot
got us an UEFI "Access Denied" message on the default boot option
because we didn't have the proper secureboot signed bits in place.

Now, if we run that same test with the package on staging ppa (which have the
exact same ubuntu-advantage-tools package as the one proposed):
https://launchpad.net/~ua-client/+archive/ubuntu/staging/

We can see that the test pass without an issue. Because of that, we have
also added this test output into the other test results.

[Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-06-15 Thread Madgemade
Just experienced this bug today. It seems to be triggered by certain
websites. I'm not using any feature of speech-dispatcher. Until I
experienced this issue I was unaware of it's existence as a daemon.
Running killall speech-dispatcher corrects the issued temporarily as
others have said. The problem reoccurs quite frequently however. I have
no use for speech-dispatcher so I have simply uninstalled it. It's quite
unfortunate that this bug exists in the default install of Ubuntu 20.04.
Is nothing really going to be done to fix this?

[Bug 1932084] [NEW] MANPAGER="grep -F {" man systemd.exec leads to man: command exited with status 1: sed -e ...

2021-06-15 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, I wanted to search the systemd.exec(5) manpage for an opening
brace character, {, in a manner that would be easy to copy-and-paste the
results if there were any. This unfortunately gives an error message:

$ MANPAGER="grep -F {" man systemd.exec
man: command exited with status 1: sed -e '/^[[:space:]]*$/{ N;
/^[[:space:]]*\n[[:space:]]*$/D; }' | LESS=-ix8RmPm Manual page
systemd\.exec(5) ?ltline %lt?L/%L.:byte %bB?s/%s..?e (END):?pB %pB\%.. (press h
for help or q to quit)$PM Manual page systemd\.exec(5) ?ltline %lt?L/%L.:byte
%bB?s/%s..?e (END):?pB %pB\%.. (press h for help or q to quit)$
MAN_PN=systemd\.exec(5) grep -F {
$ MANPAGER="grep -F {" man apparmor
   profile foo flags=(audit) { ... }
$

It works fine on a simple example, apparmor(7). Other patterns work with
systemd.exec(5):

$ MANPAGER="grep -F aa" man systemd.exec
   StateDirectory=aaa/bbb ccc
   then the environment variable "RUNTIME_DIRECTORY" is set with
"/run/foo/bar", and "STATE_DIRECTORY" is set with
"/var/lib/aaa/bbb:/var/lib/ccc".
$

Thus I think when the pager doesn't provide any output we get an ugly
error message. I expected no output at all if the pattern doesn't match.

Thanks

And now the --debug output:

$ MANPAGER="grep -F {" man --debug -s 5 systemd.exec
ruid=1000, euid=1000
rgid=1000, egid=1000

[Bug 1928508] Re: Performance regression on memcpy() calls for AMD Zen

2021-06-15 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
There's currently a pending SRU for glibc on Groovy, which I based my
debdiff on. Although that SRU has already cleared the 7 day grace
period, there are still a few pending bugs for verification which we
would need to clear before being able to upload a fix for this one.

Since Groovy is going EOL in a couple of weeks, I don't think we should
spend too much effort for that release. Marking as "won't fix"
accordingly.

[Bug 1932081] [NEW] Disable hv-kvp-daemon.service on certain instance types

2021-06-15 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * Disable hv-kvp-daemon.service on certain instance types. As requested
for some azure instance types, hv-kvp-daemon is prohibited from
starting, and currently it takes a long time to come up and fail.
Configure to disable the service on those instances. At the moment, we
can key off kernel command line to detect those.

[Test Plan]

 * Boot preview image in azure
 * Check that hv-kvp-daemon.service is not running

[Where problems could occur]

 * The conditions/detection could have been more specific as to when the
daemon is pointless to run. Thus key-off kernel commandline is good
enough for now, but may require changes in the future.

** Description changed:

- I've been using ubuntu for some time now, and I get absurdly hurt by
- some things, among them, the behavior of windows when opening an
- application. For God's sake, the development team can't implement an
- option or even default the window behavior so that when we open an
- application, the window is centered or each application saves the
- mode(X,Y position) that closed previously and open at the same
- coordinates? I can't stand having to open my Sublime or my Vs Code and
- every time they open totally misaligned, or center or record the
- previously closed position and open at the same coordinate the next few
- times until I restart the machine at least. I CAN NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
-
- As you can see in the nautilus image, I would like it to open at these
- coordinates.(image1), but when I close it and open it again, it opens
- totally misaligned and incoherent.

[Bug 1932094] [NEW] Make libutfcpp-dev arch-indep to allow dependent package i386 builds

2021-06-15 Thread Rob Savoury
Public bug reported:

Due libutfcpp-dev from utfcpp source being architecture dependent and
not on the Launchpad i386 whitelist other software that depends on
libutfcpp-dev cannot build i386 binaries for Focal and newer series.
This includes software that is on the i386 whitelist such as taglib,
which as of version 1.12~beta (currently in Debian experimental) build-
depends on libutfcpp-dev.

Various other software on the i386 whitelist such as VLC then build-
depends on libtag1-dev from taglib source. So for example the future
builds once taglib 1.12 has been released to Debian/Ubuntu archives will
require libutfcpp-dev be arch-independent to allow successful builds of
i386 binaries of other dependent packages. As utfcpp provides four
headers only there should be no issue with making libutfcpp-dev arch-
independent.

[Bug 1931509] Re: System hang with kernel general protection fault due to dell-wmi-sysman sysman_init failure

2021-06-15 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
@acelankao

I compare the 5.10.0-1031-oem kernel and 5.13-rc6. There are three
commits mentioned by #4, which is not in 5.10.0-1031-oem. Dell's perry
suggest we sync with the latest Dell wmi driver.

Could you help to check if we need those changes?

platform/x86: wmi: Make remove callback return void
platform/x86: dell-wmi-sysman: Fix possible NULL pointer deref on exit
platform/x86: dell-wmi-sysman: Make it safe to call exit_foo_attributes()

Most likely these are PHP 8 compatibility issues, however php-db itself
is deprecated upstream (see https://pear.php.net/package/DB) in favor of
MDB2. Ideally we would just drop php-db, but a couple things still
depend on it: php-log and php-services-weather. Potentially we could
drop all three packages but php-log still appears to be maintained, so
for now probably simpler to just hint the failing tests. Hopefully when
Debian updates to php8 they'll handle whatever should be done with these
packages.

[Bug 1932076] [NEW] src:request-tracker5: ftbfs due to changes in gpg error messages

Package: src:request-tracker5
Version: 5.0.1+dfsg-1

Tags: ftbfs
Justification: fails to build from source

Dear Maintainer,

As can be seen at

https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/rb-pkg/unstable/amd64
/request-tracker5.html

or

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/request-tracker5/5.0.1+dfsg-1

the package fails to build with the current state of unstable / Ubuntu

The failures are:

# expected to find warning: (?^:Recipient 'nokey\@example.com' is unusable)

(the messages are actually slightly different in Ubuntu). This seems
pretty benign really and probably the tests should be relaxed?

Cheers,
mwh

[Bug 1932081] Re: Disable hv-kvp-daemon.service on certain instance types

2021-06-15 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * Disable hv-kvp-daemon.service on certain instance types. As requested
  for some azure instance types, hv-kvp-daemon is prohibited from
  starting, and currently it takes a long time to come up and fail.
  Configure to disable the service on those instances. At the moment, we
  can key off kernel command line to detect those.

  [Test Plan]

   * Boot preview image in azure
   * Check that hv-kvp-daemon.service is not running

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The conditions/detection could have been more specific as to when the
  daemon is pointless to run. Thus key-off kernel commandline is good
  enough for now, but may require changes in the future.
