Thanks, aki, for the info. In the end, I did it a different way. First,
I realised my 22.04 boot issue was that a partition got reformatted
during 24.04 installation and the UUID was changed. I had to edit the
22.04 /etc/fstab file to replace the old UUID with the new so that 22.04
would boot.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS now manages Thunderbird with only the snap package,
this makes it impossible to use openpgp private keys stored on tokens
like yubikey because even activating the
"mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg" option in the snap package it has no
effect, which instead works with thunderbird

I think I understood this.
I have a udev rule to force the NIC name to eno1, which is not the
driver's default (it is eno1np0). I did not regenerate the initramfs, so
that rule did not propagate there.
What happens is:
- initramfs is executed. The NIC is renamed to eno1np0 (driver's default).

I tried updating my nvidia driver to nvidia-driver-550, but I keep
getting this "phantom" monitor in Gnome settings.
I have two physical monitors :

I forgot to mention in my summary that I could not duplicate any of the
issues I was having when I swapped out the Radeon 6800XT for a GeForce
1070 in my Desktop and repeated the process of doing a full wipe and
reinstall of 24.04. I plan to repeat these steps with my current
