[Bug 39862] Re: [sky2] Marvell ethernet interface doesn' t work after reboot

2006-06-12 Thread Ayaz
I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop and have no network connectivity with the
Marvell NIC running sky2 driver version 0.15.

I installed Kubuntu 6.06 (kernel 2.6.15-23-686 (system is dual boot with
WinXP). I can't get it to work even with a cold boot. I don't see the
ACPI error messages either.

Ethtool reports no link even though I am connected to my router.

Everything works fine in Windows.

[Bug 48632] Re: Arobase key not working on MacBook

2006-06-12 Thread Sebastien CELLES
I wonder if xmodmap is a solution...

http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/xmodmap.1.html
http://www.delafond.org/traducmanfr/X11/man1/xmodmap.1x.html

because I don't know if it will works on consoles (CTRL+ALT+F1 ... F6)

Moreover I think that if it is a solution Ubuntu should provide an easy
way to use MacBook (and MacBook Pro) keyboard

[Bug 49439] No sound on Toshiba Satellite p100-114 with intel-hda chipset

2006-06-12 Thread yannick
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Everything loads fine, all the modules seems to be installed successfully. Alsa
mixer reports only one channel called PCM, nothing else. This channel is
unmuted and the volume at its maximum. But still, there is no sound at all.
The Kmix volume controller reports the same thing.

I have tried with lastest Alsa (1.0.11) but it's the same, no sound at
all...

This laptop model came out very recently.

Here is all the information regarding my machine that i thought could be

[Bug 49438] swap stanza is ignored

2006-06-12 Thread ChristianDrexler
Public bug reported:

Hi,
when I try to install using my kickstart file the partition information seems
to be incompletely parsed in regard to swap partitions.
The relevant snippet fromn the ks config file is:
quote
#partition types top be cleared
clearpart --all --drives sda
#Disk partitioning information
part / --fstype ext3 --size 8000
partswap--size 512
/quote
This results in a 8GB and 2GB Partition both of type Linux/83 but no swap
partition and a question from partman if I really want to configure my system

This breaks my hands-free installation and has forced me to install FedoraCore

[Bug 49442] gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time

2006-06-12 Thread Kasper Peeters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After a fresh boot, suspending my laptop works fine (by closing the lid
or by choosing suspend from the logout menu). However, after some time
(I haven't yet been able to determine which actions triggers this
problem), gnome-power-manager does not recognise anymore that I have
allowed the machine to suspend. Closing the lid does nothing anymore,
and when I choose 'logout' from the menu there is no option anymore to
suspend the machine.

Killing g-p-m and calling /etc/acpi/sleep.sh by hand still works, and
the machine still wakes up fine after that, so it is definitely a g-p-m
problem.

Any suggestions on how to debug this further?

[Bug 47760] Re: firefox scrollbar under kubuntu is broken

2006-06-12 Thread PeteDonnell
I have also encountered this bug. I'm not sure which theme I'm using,
but it appears not to be plastik. I was using the default theme under
Kubuntu 5.10, and recently upgraded to 6.06, at which point I think the
bug first appeared.

The extra scroll buttons appear in other applications (notably
Konqueror) but do not exhibit the same buggy behaviour, although I don't
think they were there before the upgrade from 5.10 to 6.06.

[Bug 49450] 2.6.15-23-686 hangs a couple of times per week

2006-06-12 Thread Johan Walles
Public bug reported:

I'm running the following kernel:
Linux version 2.6.15-23-686 ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu
4.0.3-1ubuntu5)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue May 23 14:03:07 UTC 2006

A couple of times per week my system freezes and stops responding to
ping.

Since I'm running X, I can't see if there's any message on some console
when the hang occurs.

Since X hangs right after login if I run an SMP system (that was a
regression from Hoary to Breezy), I'm booting with maxcpus=1.

Hanging while running on a single CPU kernel is a regression from
Breezy.

I don't know what kind of information you need to be able to look into
this, but I realize the above information isn't enough. What do you
need? Is there some kind of kernel crash dump thingy I can use to get
you information?

[Bug 22400] Re: Wallet manager losing wallets

2006-06-12 Thread Alan Jenkins
I've also had the disappearing wallet problem. I had it today, saw this
bug, started kded manually from a terminal, and the wallet came back.

In konqueror, it would forget all my passwords, without telling my
that there was a problem; it would also forget all the SSL certificates
which I have chosen to accept despite not knowing the certificate
authority (and refuse to remember new ones). Apart from meaning I had
to click through two dialogs every time I went to a new page on a self-
signed site, it also prevents a particular web based login from working.

From my point of view the biggest problem was the lack of feedback about
what happened. There are always going to be bugs - but I found this
failure mode particularly bemusing and frustrating.

[Bug 49483] Re: rhythmbox close button should minimise to tray

interesting. if you uses the Music menu in Rhytmbox and select close, it
does exactly what you want, but when you click the 'X' it quits.

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=156358
this link is pretty much the same exact thing you just asked too. I just found
it searching the forums.

A quick fix is to Music Close in the menu list, or you can simply
press: Ctrl+W to close it to the system tray. If you see anything else
or find out anything else please post it, maybe somebody will come by
with a fix to this.

[Bug 49494] Screen does not get blank when Blank Screen is chosen in gnome-screensaver and the theme has background pattern

I noticed this in Ubuntu 6.06: if the theme has background patterns
(pixmaps), for example Smokey Blue, selecting Blank Screen in gnome-

but instead the background pattern is displayed.

I tried with two different such themes and the behavior is the same.

[Bug 36596] Re: system freeze after clicking task manager trash icon in pan newsreader

2006-06-12 Thread ahreece
I've been having the same problem as well ever since the Beta came out.
The system locks up and it won't do anything. The AGPMode comment that
was left got me thinking and I did some poking around.

I've got a Compaq Evo N600c with 512 Megs of RAM. That card is an ATI
Radeon Molbity M6 LY. The lsmod command comes up with the following two
modules (among others):

intel_agp  24700  1
agpgart36784  1 intel_agp

I checked with the dmesg command and it produced the following three
lines:

[4294698.307000] Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones
[4294698.314000] agpgart: Detected an Intel 830M Chipset.
[4294698.329000] agpgart: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0x6000

Now I know in the previous version of Ubuntu, my card used the radeon
module. I believe there is also an ati-agp module. Are these on-board
chips getting detected incorrectly?

[Bug 49498] With Evince I can't copy text out from PDF documents created with cups-pdf

2006-06-12 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Public bug reported:

When I create PDF documents with the cups-pdf printer, after, I can't select
text and copy it out from the PDF itself.
The strange thing is that when I have installed the cups-pdf printer with the
gnome-cups-manager, I have printed the test page. In this case, and only in
this case, when I opened the pdf created in Evince I am able to copy the text
and paste it elsewhere.
The problem is that when I use the cups-pdf from other tools like gedit, I can
create PDF documents, but when I open it in Evince, I can't copy text out.
These documents are like protected from copying.

[Bug 49121] Re: NIC names - confusion

2006-06-12 Thread Pazkooda
Well,

In fact I have had one totally unknown entry in /etc/iftab with line:
eth0 mac {here totally random MAC}
and where it came from I don't know.

What have helped me was removing/commenting this entry. After this
simple step everything goes smoothly (at least with NICs, I have another
problem with no sound which have been working on Dapper Beta 1 but not
with Final - but it's a different story).

[cite]In Ubuntu the /etc/iftab file is generated by the installer and
used by udev[/cite]

I guess it's better to put those two lines with eth0, eth1 in /etc/iftab
for future upgrades.

Thanks for explanations.

[Bug 49511] Kubuntu/dapper: Firefox freezes

2006-06-12 Thread tmp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

After upgrading from breezy to dapper, my firefox (in KDE) has begun to
be quite unstable. It freezes very easily (often, but not only, when I
switch desktop) and it has to be killed in order to be shut down.

I have not recognized any common denominator for the sites I visit when
the freeze occurs.

When launced from a terminal, firefox produces tons of the below error
messages, but as it may keep running while printing them, I don't know
if they are of any relevance for the freezes:

Test packages with the patch applied (amd64 and i386, and source) can be
found here (thanks to Martin Pitt):

  deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/packages/libgnomeprint/ ./
  deb-src http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/packages/libgnomeprint/ ./

just add this to /etc/apt/sources.list, sudo apt-get update, and sudo

[Bug 49517] dirty text cursor in firefox and thunderbird

2006-06-12 Thread Arnaud BERCEGEAY
Public bug reported:

When editing a text in thunderbird (writing of a new message for
example), if i move the text cursor (small flashing vertical bar) by
usign arrow keys (left, right, up, down), then the text cursor is
displayed at its new position... but it stay displayed at its previous
position too. For example, if i keep pressed the left arrow key, there
will be a vertical thin black bar between each character from the old
position of the cursor up to the new position of the cursor.

This bug exists for thunderbird (it makes thunderbird near unusable). It
also exists for firefox (i have the problem writing this bug report).
There is no pb with other software (konqueror for example).

I uses kubuntu dapper for amd64, but i reproduced the pb with the live
CD ubuntu 6.06 for amd64, and with the live CD ubuntu 6.06 for i586.

For information, my machine is based on a gigabyt k8nf-9 ultra mother

2006-06-12 Thread Cos Costa
Public bug reported:

Due to conflicts between kdesvn-kio-plugins and kdesdk-kio-plugins its
not possible to install kdesvn when kdesdk is installed.

kdesvn is a neet frontend to svn - repositories like cervisia
There is also a newer stable version available
http://www.alwins-world.de/programs/kdesvn/
0.8.4

[Bug 49113] Re: locales problems with edgy libc6

2006-06-12 Thread Allcolor
I think it is still broken in libc6_2.4-1ubuntu4_i386

I have problem with perl showing :
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = fr_BE.UTF-8,
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = fr_BE.UTF-8
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale (C).

If I type locale :
locale: Impossible de configurer LC_ALL à la langue par défaut: Aucun fichier
ou répertoire de ce type
LANG=fr_BE.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=fr_BE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

Neither a dpkg-reconfigure or an apt-get install --reinstall locales
language-pack-fr-base language-pack-fr did the trick.

[Bug 39817] Re: playback timing doesn't match recording

2006-06-12 Thread AlanPope
Further to this I have performed some more tests:

http://popey.com/istanbul/demo1.ogg

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ file demo1.ogg
demo1.ogg: Ogg data, Theora video
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -ltr demo1.ogg
-rw-r--r-- 1 alan alan 114351 2006-06-12 22:39 demo1.ogg

You can see the issue when you play back the video above. I start the
video on the minute with seconds showing on the clock. Time passes
quickly in the video. Also note the mouse cursor is yellow.

Before recording I killed powernowd and echo 1024 /proc/sys/dev/rtc
/max-user-freq as root, as this was suggested when playing back video
to stabilise timing. Neither made any difference.

The PC on which I am performing this is a 2.1GHz Dell XPS Inspiron using
the binary nvidia drivers.

I then attempted to test using the same computer but with the open nv
video driver.

http://popey.com/istanbul/demo2.ogg

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ file demo2.ogg
demo2.ogg: Ogg data, Theora video
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -ltr demo2.ogg
-rw-r--r-- 1 alan alan 118750 2006-06-12 22:51 demo2.ogg

I started this video at 30 seconds past but nothing was captured for a
few seconds, then it skips chunks, not recording. Possibly the nv driver
can't keep up where the binary/closed one can?

Hope this extra information helps.

Cheers,
Al,

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 32981 ***

Yes, it appears that I have that module loaded.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ dcop kded kded loadedModules
klaptopdaemon
knemod
mediamanager
dnssdwatcher
kdetrayproxy
kinetd
medianotifier
systemdirnotify

I have uninstalled the knemo package and restarted KDE. This appears to
have resolved the problem. This can be closed as a duplicate of bug
32981. Thanks :-)
