I was trying and xfs partition. andi5 says that he had the same
problem and that it was b/c of the XFS filesystem. Apparently his
worked with a jfs install. I installed using text mode and got it up
and running. The screen went blank for a bit but ipressed enter after
the HDD indicator stopped
I just checked Packages.bz2 of dapper-updates, and it was in there. But
could you please fix this for Edgy Eft, too? There will be no sync from
Debian for weeks, because relevant packages will be stuck in NEW. (gmp
was messed up, so the SONAME of both gmp and obby has to be bumped.)

It is correct that the wpasupplicant package in dapper does not work
with madwifi-ng, mainly because the decision to include madwifi-ng is
only for some few newer cards, and because it was made very very late.
Debian has an updated wpasupplicant package prepared, which we will have
in edgy soon.

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. Bug 47848 is filed to note that the partitioner should warn
you about this up-front.

still use the text-mode partitioner if you use the alternate install CD,
and (b) we plan to rewrite the desktop CD partitioner for Edgy

Thanks for the update Colin, I was unaware that it had changed. I'm
wondering if it would be helpful to at least display this in the help
files for users looking for the option and / or possibly log it to
syslog that the option is now depreciated?

Unfortunately /var/log/installer/syslog is by far the more useful log
message, particularly given that you didn't provide the full traceback.
If you can't provide that then I'm afraid there is nothing I can do with
