[Bug 50908] Selecting CD-ROM device is inconsistent and unnecessarily difficult
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kscd In Extras-Configure KsCD... one can choose CD-ROM device. On my machine it is by default system:/media/hdb. But when I click an icon for selecting files (next to device listbox), change nothing in a window that appears and confirm the selection it gets rejected with a message like: You can only select local files. Another thing is that I can select all kinds of files in this file selection dialog, but I didn't manage to select system:/media/hdb once that I've changed it. I had to write it by hand. [Bug 50911] Text mode installer does not create user
Public bug reported: I installed 64-bit Kubuntu on my computer. Everything went fine, but soon I found out that I couldn't get 64-bit binaries of some software I want, and dpkg refused to install them. So I decided to reinstall as a 32-bit system. Durin the text mode install (the graphical one doesn't work) I made a mistake. I accidentally marked my root partition as Do not format, and the installer threw an error. So I had to go back and I got no errors. Then, I was asked a question (can't remember what it was) I've never been asked before. I answered and the install completed. When I booted to the fresh installation and saw the login boxes, I realised it didn't ask for my account details. I went into recovery mode and checked /etc/passwd, and indeed, no user was created. Sure, I could've created the user in recovery mode, but I decided to install the OS again, because I couldn't be sure if the installer had skipped other important steps. I didn't make the partition mistake this time, and everything went smoothly and the user was created. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Text mode installer does not create user https://launchpad.net/bugs/50911 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50912] GUI installer overwrites MBR without asking
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub In the previous release, Breezy 5.10, the Ubuntu installer was text- based. When one was at the point where Ubuntu would overwrite the MBR with the Grub bootloader, it would list what OS's it has detected, and asks whether one wishes to install the bootloader. When I installed the Dapper Drake, I noticed that there was no asking, which rather made me feel annoyed. What if I wished to keep my Lilo bootloader, and I had already added a booting configuration for Ubuntu for that? There wass no warning, it just removed the MBR. I found this an evil similarity to Windows XP, and I think some explanitory page should be added in the next release of the GUI installer, so people can have the choice of installing the bootloader. ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- GUI installer overwrites MBR without asking https://launchpad.net/bugs/50912 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
