problem?

It may also help if you run this from a terminal window (if you know
how) to see if there is any extra information.

the HDD indicator stopped and it rebooted and now I am in. Thanks for
your help

One question: What file system is /boot on? I was able to install dapper
finally, after having realized that maybe there was just an unfetched
warning about grub having problems with xfs file systems.

If you have the same problem: Make a small /boot partition with an ext
 file system.

[Bug 50902] Thunderbird displays useless Don't importa anything dialog on first launch

I just installed Thunderbird in Ubuntu 6.06, and the first thing it did

2006-06-25 Thread Colin Watson
The option is called TCPKeepAlive now; see
http://bugs.debian.org/349896. I suggest changing this in your
configuration file. The version I'll merge from Debian shortly fixes the
configuration file for new installs, although unfortunately I've never
had a good mechanism for updating the configuration file on upgrades.

[Bug 47144] Re: wpasupplicant in dapper doesn't work with madwifi-ng

2006-06-25 Thread Reinhard Tartler
It is correct that the wpasupplicant package in dapper does not work
with madwifi-ng, mainly because the decision to include madwifi-ng is
only for some few newer cards, and because it was made very very late.

Debian has an updated wpasupplicant package prepared, which we will have
in edgy soon. we can put that in dapper-backports, as soon as it gets
synced.

[Bug 50902] Re: Thunderbird displays useless Don't import anything dialog on first launch

2006-06-25 Thread Thomas Hotz
I had the same problem, but now I only use Evolution and for me there is
not need anymore to import E-mails.

But I've just found some ways to import mails from Evolution to
Thunderbird:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=395122highlight=import+evolution
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=334394highlight=import+evolution

Or just search in the forum if this links don't help you.

You should report this directly to the Thunderbird developers (at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ I think).

[Bug 50908] Selecting CD-ROM device is inconsistent and unnecessarily difficult

2006-06-25 Thread tgrzejsz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kscd

In Extras-Configure KsCD... one can choose CD-ROM device. On my machine it is
by default system:/media/hdb. But when I click an icon for selecting files
(next to device listbox), change nothing in a window that appears and confirm
the selection it gets rejected with a message like: You can only select local
files.
Another thing is that I can select all kinds of files in this file selection
dialog, but I didn't manage to select system:/media/hdb once that I've
changed it. I had to write it by hand. So this dialog isn't very helpful in

[Bug 50911] Text mode installer does not create user

2006-06-25 Thread Tommi Kärkkäinen
Public bug reported:

I installed 64-bit Kubuntu on my computer. Everything went fine, but
soon I found out that I couldn't get 64-bit binaries of some software I
want, and dpkg refused to install them. So I decided to reinstall as a
32-bit system.

Durin the text mode install (the graphical one doesn't work) I made a
mistake. I accidentally marked my root partition as Do not format, and
the installer threw an error. So I had to go back and I got no errors.
Then, I was asked a question (can't remember what it was) I've never
been asked before. I answered and the install completed. When I booted
to the fresh installation and saw the login boxes, I realised it didn't
ask for my account details. I went into recovery mode and checked
/etc/passwd, and indeed, no user was created.

Sure, I could've created the user in recovery mode, but I decided to
install the OS again, because I couldn't be sure if the installer had
skipped other important steps. I didn't make the partition mistake this
time, and everything went smoothly and the user was created.

[Bug 50912] GUI installer overwrites MBR without asking

2006-06-25 Thread John Hand
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

In the previous release, Breezy 5.10, the Ubuntu installer was text-
based.

When one was at the point where Ubuntu would overwrite the MBR with the
Grub bootloader, it would list what OS's it has detected, and asks
whether one wishes to install the bootloader.

When I installed the Dapper Drake, I noticed that there was no asking, which
rather made me feel annoyed. What if I wished to keep my Lilo bootloader, and I
had already added a booting configuration for Ubuntu for that?

There wass no warning, it just removed the MBR. I found this an evil
similarity to Windows XP, and I think some explanitory page should be
added in the next release of the GUI installer, so people can have the
choice of installing the bootloader.

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. Bug 47848 is filed to note that the partitioner should warn
you about this up-front.

[Bug 50360] Re: Manual partitioner reports error without offering solution

2006-06-25 Thread Colin Watson
gparted should really be a lot cleverer here. Fortunately, (a) you can
still use the text-mode partitioner if you use the alternate install CD,
and (b) we plan to rewrite the desktop CD partitioner for Edgy
(http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ubiquity/AdvancedPartitionerRewrite); the
rewrite won't suffer from this problem.

/var/log/partman to this bug, using the Add Attachment link on the
bug's web page? Thanks in advance.

At present, you must reformat system partitions (e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or
/var) during installation; bug 47046 is filed to note that the
partitioner should warn you about this up-front. If you are upgrading an
existing installation, then please see

[Bug 50702] Re: openssh-server: Manual page sshd_config is missing KeepAlive description

2006-06-25 Thread Tim Butler
Thanks for the update Colin, I was unaware that it had changed. I'm
wondering if it would be helpful to at least display this in the help
files for users looking for the option and / or possibly log it to
syslog that the option is now depreciated?

Eg:

man: Keepalive: Depreciated, please see TCPKeepAlive below

syslog: [OpenSSH] Option KeepAlive is now depreciated, please read the
help files and replace this with TCPKeepAlive.

Unfortunately /var/log/installer/syslog is by far the more useful log
message, particularly given that you didn't provide the full traceback.
If you can't provide that then I'm afraid there is nothing I can do with
this bug ... Thanks in advance.
