6.6.2-0ubuntu1. The stock xorg.conf causes fast frequent random lockups
at 24 bpp and somehow less frequent random

There are others reporting problems at the same point in the boot. Do
you have a blinking cursor too? Does ctl-d allow you to use ctl-F1 etc.
to switch virtual consoles? Does ctl-alt-backspace kill xorg and allow

Thanks for replying.
I have tried again and it went straight on. I set it to wipe the whole disk
and liked that a lot better.
The only problem I have now is I cant seem to create a shortcut to a file on
the desktop, I get an 'Unsupported Action Error' and it doesn't specify any
particular code.
(for the record, the linked upstream bug report is *entirely* unrelated
to these last problems)

I have the exact same problem on a Thinkpad T43. Last message in boot
screen is configuring X then blank screen with no blinking cursor.

I also can confirm this happens after updating xubuntu 6.04 to 6.04.1. It can
be reproduced by installing an xubuntu 6.04 without any patches and then
updating with the latest offficial updates to 6.04.1.
I think it has something to do with the updates for the locales and/or language
files.

Havoc is of the same opinion: This is a deliberate decision in some
themes because using those buttons is *way* *way* more common than
resizing up there.

This is what was happing on a VM, happens on a real machine too, so the
VM setup isn't important.
here are the key parts of my install server (dhcp, tftp, apache)
setup:
boot files (kernel and initrd) avalible to tftp
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/tftpboot/ubuntu/edgy$ mount
installed edgy daily (may have been yesterdays), did this:
debconf-get-selections --installer foo.cfg
debconf-get-selections foo.cfg

such a bug was present in 6.06 for Spanish but got solved by 6.06.1
It is a translating issue and affects upstream as well. The idea is that in the
translations when the English 'Button Label |' string appears it should not be
translated.
