By the way, my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT and the native resolution of my LCD monitor is 1600x1200. If this helps at all, when the shutdown Usplash has about 3 bars left, the screen goes to black for a second and just before my computer shuts down I can see the Usplash progress bar displayed in correct colors. There is a cron job, that is run as root and daily checks if automatic updates are enabled. If so it downloads the latest repository information. Gnome-app-install should only warn you, if you have changed something in your sources.list. The only way to get to the missing directories is to know where you want to go and type the location in the location bar. This also affects file/save dialogs in both GNOME and KDE. Attempting to type the path in the file open/save dialogs often causes the app (and sometimes all of KDE) to freeze (temporarily and sometimes to the proint of requring a restart).
