[Bug 63886] Re: [Edgy] Unable to connect to some access points

2006-11-02 Thread Thomas Brunner
I can confirm this problems, I have a Thinkpad T60 with an atheros a/b/g
wlan-card. Since my school uses quite a complicated (at least for
network-manager) wlan setup with wep(!), peap, mschapv2 and so on I have to use
wpa_supplicant without network manager.
However, while I have no problems connecting to my home wlan using
wpa_supplicant, I need about 10 to 15 minutes connecting to the school wlan
until I get an IP. The problem (according to dmesg) is always ath0 link is not
ready. So my current workaround is deactivating and activating ath0 until I
get an IP ;)
But I will try the madwifi-ng driver as soon as I'm on a wired network next
time.

[Bug 69839] No WLAN after boot of 6.10, works with manual ifup/ifdown

Public bug reported:

Just installed Ubuntu Server 6.10 (Edgy) on a Pentium 4 computer here,
with a Atheros AR5212 PCI NIC.

I set up /etc/network/interfaces as per the instructions in

I.e. everything seems OK, but I cannot ping my router (10.0.0.1).

If I manually restart networking, i.e.
/etc/init.d/networking restart

Everything seems to work just fine.

I have added VERBOSITY=1 to the beginning of
/etc/wpa_supplicant/ifupdown.sh. Restarting networking then tells me
that everything works well with wpa_supplicant. However, redirecting the
output to a file doesn't work (not even when grabbing both stdout and
stderr), so I can't post the output here.

/etc/network/interfaces:
# The loopback network interface

address 10.0.0.3
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.0.0.1

I'm stuck here... How do I debug and diagnose wpa_supplicant problems
during boot??

Also, here is iwconfig output:

iwconfig after fresh boot:

I can see in 'ps' that wpa_supplicant is running after boot.

BTW, access point is a Linksys WRT54GL running OpenWRT RC5, which works
perfectly with other computers (Linux and Windows).

[Bug 69806] Re: Gtk::Adjustment ignores initial value in constructor

2006-11-02 Thread Daniel Holbach
Thanks for your bug report. This looks valid. Murray, do you want me to
forward it upstream?

On a brief glance:

Code in gtkmm 2.8.5:
Adjustment::Adjustment(double value,
   double lower, double upper,
   double step_increment, double page_increment,
   double page_size)
:
  Glib::ObjectBase(0), //Mark this class as gtkmmproc-generated, rather than a
custom class, to allow vfunc optimisations.
  Gtk::Object(Glib::ConstructParams(adjustment_class_.init(), (char*) 0))
{
  gobj()-lower = lower;
  gobj()-upper = upper;
  gobj()-step_increment = step_increment;
  gobj()-page_increment = page_increment;
  gobj()-page_size = page_size;
  changed();

  set_value(value);
}

void Adjustment::set_value(double value)
{
gtk_adjustment_set_value(gobj(), value);

}

(For some reason set_value() doesn't use
  gobj()-value = value;
  changed();
as the other set_*() do. But maybe that's a red herring.)

Code in gtkmm 2.10.2:
Adjustment::Adjustment(double value, double lower, double upper, double
step_increment, double page_increment, double page_si
ze)
:
  Glib::ObjectBase(0), //Mark this class as gtkmmproc-generated, rather than a
custom class, to allow vfunc optimisations.
  Gtk::Object(Glib::ConstructParams(adjustment_class_.init(), value, value,
lower, lower, upper, upper, step_increment
, step_increment, page_increment, page_increment, page_size, page_size,
(char*) 0))
{
  }

There seems to be some interest in vim7 packages for dapper. While I

since vim is a rather important package, I'd like to hear some storys
how the new package work for you. I have already done a simple 'works
for me test' which consists maily of starting and openening a file. I'm
more interested in advanced users who are actually using more than the
basic features of vim before considering to upload vim7 to dapper-

[Bug 69499] Startup options cause eclipse to crash when subclipse is used

2006-11-02 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

When starting eclipse (3.2) with an installed subclipse addon installed
eclipse will crash.

I did some investigations and found a workaround:

Since Subclipse relies on sun-java I changed the order of java
environments in /etc/eclipse/java_home so that sun-java would be the
first choice. Unfortunately hidden in the startup script
/usr/bin/eclipse are some gcj-related arguments which probably cause
eclipse to crash when subclipse components are called.

To work around this problem I did the following:

sudo gedit /usr/bin/eclipse

now outcomment the following lines in the very end of that file:

#-vmargs -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni \
#-Dgnu.gcj.precompiled.db.path=/var/lib/gcj-4.1/classmap.db \
#-Dgnu.gcj.runtime.VMClassLoader.library_control=never \
#-Dosgi.locking=none ${VMARGS}

and add this line instead :
-vmargs ${VMARGS}

Now I know this is quite a rough way of dealing with this but at least
now everything works like a charme. However if somebody can provide a
more clean way I'm more than happy to learn about it.

[Bug 65795] Re: vino won't accept my password

2006-11-02 Thread kevb
Yep, I patched the source with the debdiff posted above. After rebooting
the problem has been corrected.

In case anyone else is stuck like me untill the update is released, here
are the commands Kees kindly gave me to patch the source (slightly
modified):

cd /tmp
apt-get source vino
wget http://librarian.launchpad.net/4941195/vino_2.16.0-0ubuntu2.1.dsc.debdiff
cd vino-*
patch -p1  /tmp/vino_2.16.0-0ubuntu2.1.dsc.debdiff
debuild -uc -us

#Then to install:
sudo dpkg -i ../vino*.deb

Of course it's probably recommended that you wait for the update, but in
my case I needed vino working and it sounded like this was a simple fix.
Thanks for the help from Kees Cook #ubuntu (irc.freenode.net).

[Bug 61287] Re: [EDGY] no DVB-T software in gnome in main

2006-11-02 Thread Matti Viljanen
I agree - Totem should be capable of handlig digital video broadcasting
- but it is not limited to just terrestial. It's the device that counts,
right?

PS. I could use DVB-C on my home, but I now use two Artec T14 devices,
which are DVB-T devices.

[Bug 29050] Re: cupsys does not automatically detect parallel printer

2006-11-02 Thread Till Kamppeter
The original poster has reported the bug of parallel printers not being
detected and that is not fixed yet. It is most probably a kernel
problem.

The dmesg output of gcordoba says

[17179596.504000] lp: driver loaded but no devices found

So the lp kernel module did not find the printer. This must be caused
by the kernel.

So I add the kernel package to this bug.

[Bug 68953] printconf in edgy misconfigures USB printers

2006-11-02 Thread Mark Eichin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: printconf

printconf probed and found my lexmark E210, no problems there. (This is
on a fresh upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10, but none of foomatic/cups were
installed under 6.06 - I used magicfilter and lpr there.)

However, printing didn't work, and ps showed gs and a tree of processes
hanging.

Some investigation turned up this changelog:
  * The USB backend no longer supports the usb:/dev/foo
format on systems that support device ID queries since 1.2.1-1.
Because Linux supports device ID queries, you have to
replace your printer configuration uses usb:/dev/foo style
with device ID style. usb backend will show device IDs of
active USB printers.

Sure enough, DeviceURI (in /etc/cups/printers.conf) was set to
usb:/dev/usblp0. Manually changing it to DeviceURI usb://Lexmark/E210
after running the back end explicitly:

# /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb
direct usb://Lexmark/E210 Lexmark E210 Lexmark E210 USB #1
MFG:Lexmark;CMD:GDI;MDL:E210;CLS:PRINTE

and restarting cups cause it to work just fine.

And switching to other VT's does nothing.

 The problem _is_ exactly the samea as in #28925, it's just described
 there that changing to radeon helps. #22985 is the bug this not a
 duplicate of - there the problem is fixed in other ways than changing
 the driver name. Marking this as duplicate of 28925.

[Bug 67385] Re: Opening a file in gedit on a gnome-vfs share fails

2006-11-02 Thread markba
@Rouben. Yes this happens with Totem as well, even with the same error
message. Originally I filed two separate bugs, one for Gedit and one for
Totem. Caroline Ford has merged the two into one as shown in an earlier
comment; the Totem-bug is apparantly completely wiped away, I cannot
find this one anymore, even when using expert search and turning
'Rejected' and 'Fix released' on.

From a technical point of view, the problem could be in the underlying
package (gnome-vfs) or in the implementation of gnome-vfs by other
packages such as gedit and totem. The fact that this problem is
detected in two separate packages in the same time, could indicate that
it's the underlying packages., i.e. gnome-vfs. But since this is only an
assumption, this can only be sorted out by looking to the code it self
(which must be done by a developer).
